Guild Wars 2

Hi everyone and forgive my poor english (not a native speaker).

I did some research and i didn’t find a real answer. I played GW2 like 2 months after release, and i’m coming back now so it’s basically a fresh start, not to mention HoT who apparently changed a lot in the game with new specializations.

I would like to play a strong ranged dps class, single target (but i don’t mind if there is some aoe spells) and i’m not sure what to pick, it was limited in vanilla but now i’m lost between these :
Long Bow elite guardian ? I don’t mind playing melee for leveling if this is a good ranged late game class but i read some comment saying it’s not that good (except for his traps)
Long Bow Ranger ? Does Druid spec bring in something to DPS, same for the staff ?
Revenant ? I’m a complete stranger to this class but i heard hammer is good in long range ?
And obviously Elementalist (Tempest ?)

Maybe i also missed something, feel free to enlight me, i’ll play mostly WvW and PvP. Thanks.

Play the revenant with the hammer. Easymode.

Druids are pretty good at ranged combat. And in pvp if one of your teammates goes down in the middle of the fray you can use the shout “Search and Rescue” to teleport him to you so you can res him quickly without having to go into melee range. In my opinion, they are hands-down the best ranged profession.

Rangers are Solely the Number one class for Ranged Single target damage , almost all of our Trait damage increases effect our personal damage , unless you trait for druid which is more Group damage support than improving personal single target dps.

try out a ranger with these following set up.

Marksmanships and the grandmaster trait Remorseless
Beastmastery with Resounding timbre + Two-handed training and the grand master Zyphers speed or taunt.
the last trait tree can ether be wilderness survival(suvival utilities for condi clear and fury activation)(more personal and tanky tree) or Druid for more Group support through the use of glyphs and Lingering light(each time you heal a ally it applies next attack will blind so it makes for great PvE and Pvp support.

druid or wilderness makes no matter (resounding timbre provides swiftness and regen to the group)

but going this route marks+beastmastery Dramaticly increases the rangers Longbow/Greatsword personal damage at high range and high rapid attacks in combat through zypers speed(quickness on pet swap + maul > greatsword auto for a very fast Burst damage)

there are options in the druid trait tree for offense and defence like Celestial shadow (super speed on stealth unpoon entering Asteral form for the team)
then ontop of that you can use Moment of clairy in the marks man tree to improve Daze on the greatswords hiltbash attack + the Luna impact attack for a bit of Area CC+healing.

over all best set up i’d say is
marksman
beastmastery
druid
Cavalier’s stats with some Valkyrie/assasins stats , with how remorsless+fury and the two-handed training works you’d have all the crits you need while providing team support on druid but still increasing you’re own personal dps.

use heal as one to share boons applies a fury application which triggers the Remorsless that will grant you a Critical hit.

the staff is not a Bursting dps weapon , its more of a Sustain damage weapon with CC support you won’t get any fast kills with its auto alone so you’d have to use Zypers speed with it which swaps pets double team this with a Smoke scale for the port attack and then its a nasty combo which is fast , produces might and provides a stealth support .

I assume you mean PvE? If PvP, hammer rev isn’t used, dragon hunter fails against non-noobs, and eles don’t generally fight at range.

For single target, it’s definitely berserker LB ranger, and it’s also far and away the easiest profession to play in PvE. Any of the professions you listed are totally fine though. Ele does good AoE damage.

Um what? My ele do by far more st damage then my ranger. Adding to that ele also have a lot more aoe damage then a ranger have.

Revenant is a exceptional good class at this point. A bit overtuned and i am sure it will have a few more nerfs, or so i hope for wvw sake since their hammer is stupidly op there. But it do well in all game modes pretty much. It is fun to play and have both ranged and melee weapons all depending in what build you wish to play.

For PvE? You can never go wrong playing ele, awesome dps.

Longbow + Staff druid is surprisingly easy to handle. Wasn’t expecting the staff attack to pierce.

Theres also several ranged weapons that ‘cleave’ so to speak. Guardian LB, Ele Staff in fire, Ranger LB when traited, Rev Hammer, Warrior and Engi Rifle are ones that come to mind.
