if I lvl my armorsmith to 500 will that let me craft medium and light armor also? or do I need teighlor and leatherworker

You can only craft heavy armor for armorsmith

oh ok, and one other question my armorsmith is on a different toon who is not lvl 80. was wondering to craft a level 500item does the character have to be level 80 to craft it?

I too am slowly working towards ascended crafting for all six and have now finished two of them. Follow the guides as they will save you the gold.
Believe me what gold you save will disappear quickly when leveling your crafting. So browse the guides and remember that the mats you already have on hand can be very useful. If possible you can craft exotics to use for alts as you level to 500.

EDIT: Sorry I posted this to the wrong thread. Duh At least it is somewhat on topic. As for your question I am not 100% certain since the characters I use for this are all 80. Sorry I wasn’t more help.

Shouldn’t matter, you can hold items that are above your level, you just can’t equip them, so it should be the same for crafting.

The only thing I can see being an issue would be if the Recipes require you to be lvl 80 to open them. Easy enough to check you can go look at the Vendor.

ok so can my lets say necromancer make a hammer for my warrior? meaning are they bound to me once I make it or can I make weapons for several different toons with weaponsmith

Ascended things are Account bound, But some things I believe require level 80.

Your necro could make weapons for any character on your account that uses weaponsmith items, but like roundabout said, the recipes might require you to be level 80 to learn.
