Can someone tell me how to best get a ball of dark energy? I’m crafting the Nevermore, (frequently cried but managed to get through it whilst chopping entire rainforests of trees). I’m now stuck in the latest stage, where I’ve accepted my fate regarding amalgamated gemstones, but this Ball of Dark Energy…

I’m a PvE player only, and this is my first legendary (I picked it at random…). I found I needed to craft this by scrapping ascended weapons/armor, since trinkets barely drop them and rings dont at all. Now I’m still running around in exotic gear exclusively, and my fractal level is a sad 14, so is my best bet really ‘drop crafting a weapon and start crafting ascended armor’? And if so, what’s the cheapest/best way to craft it? I have no clue where to even start here.

most cost effective (according to the wiki) is to craft ascended shields to salvage. I’d go with that. craft 1, salvage, if you don’t get the dark energy, craft another etc.

If you have HoT, elite spec weapons are ascended, and relatively cheap to make, just time consuming.

Also do a Teq daily…sometimes you get lucky and a weapon chest will drop.

I just realized, I have The Raven Staff from trying to craft Nevermore. I haven’t finished crafting it yet, but can I just salvage the Raven Staff and then rebuy it from Hobbs (will it say I lost it?)?

Believe it or not, you CAN get an ascended weapon drop at lvl 14. It’s pretty rare at all levels though.

I’m not sure what kind of time frame you’re looking at for crafting nevermore, but now that you get ascended accessories from fotm dailies you can use those to get ball of dark energy. The chance isn’t particularly high (~10% is the figure I have seen), but the gold cost is substantially lower than by crafting and salvaging an ascended weapon, especially since fotm dailies also drop ascended salvage tools/kits. I’ve gotten 3 accessories for about a week’s worth of fotm dailies now, so I don’t think the drop rate on those is too terrible.

So if you’re not gonna finish nevermore soon anyway just do fotm dailies every day and salvage any ascended accessories you get that have undesirable stat combos. I was lucky and got a ball of dark energy from the first one =P

I’m not totally sure but I think you would have to craft it again. You can only re-buy the special components, so you would have to craft the Raven Statue and Rune Carving Tools again at a pretty substantial cost.

I’m doubtful Hobbs replaces whole items. He seems to replace non-craftable components and recipes http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grandmaster_Craftsman_Hobbs

If you do salvage it, you may end up needing to re-craft it and possibly the items before it too (e.g. in order to obtain Spirit of the Ravenswood Staff).

Off the top of my head, easiest way to get a ball of dark energy is to make one of the elite spec collections and then salvage the weapon. It doesn’t cost a lot of gold, but it does cost time and map currencies.

If you have cash handy, it is faster to level a craft to 500, see which one is cheaper, and then make a weapon/piece of armor and salvage it.

Thank you guys! I will take a hard pass on the salvaging the Raven Staff then, don’t want to chance it xD I’m fairly close to completing the elite spec Reaper greatsword. I’m sadly really bad at fotm but I’ll give that a try too. Teq hasn’t been too generous apart from spoons but the 1gold daily is a nice incentive to keep coming back.

Just be sure when you salvage for the dark energy, you use a Black Lion salvage tool. Every once in a while I get some high end gear I can’t use or sell, so I salvage it for mats. Almost every time I get a ball of dark energy, I am using a BL salvage kit.

You can’t use a Black Lion kit to salvage for Dark Energy, as it only drops from Ascended gear, and you need the Ascended Salvage Kit from Fractals to salvage Ascended gear.

You’re probably thinking of Globs of Dark Matter, which are a different thing entirely.

I did get them mixed up…thanks for reminding me of the difference. Too many things in the game have similar names its easy to confuse them.
