27 LLamas to get the Lavish Llama
(Thread got deleted pior to posting unannounced game content but I already crafted one https://youtu.be/4wek2nU3t10) Sadly it only has the top hat
Sooooooo,
the long run PVP reward, for which you need to grind A LOT and A LOT , or in old better system grind A LOT and place top100 for 27x months,
is…
….
drums…
…. …. …
… …
A MINI !
Meh. Didn’t really care for this mini much in the first place.
Now that they’ve added ‘tiers’ to it I can’t help but be reminded of DeviantArt’s ‘llama badges’… and how people are so intent on acquiring them.
I can’t help but think, who cares about a lame mini anyway?
But how would you ever get that many llamas? I thought now is just the second time they actually give one as a reward for ending up in top 500?
Oh hold on; just checked the wiki. Apparently, you could also get one from some tournaments and stuff. That means, if you are one of the top-players, you might get 27 of them in… 5 years maybe? With a bit of luck, that is.
I got them for being top 100 soloq and teamq on EU as well as NA at the leaderboardreset.
(edited by Bart Weird.9671)
So you need 40 Llamas in total if you want to unlock all 4 variations. Seems legit.
Its hard enough to get one Mini Llama, now the blackmarked value of llama codes will skyrocket.
Wait so how are you supposed to do this if you used the llama to add to collection? This makes no sense and seems to need a ridiculous amount of minis to make the finished one.
Exclusivity is fine, but this, this is madness.
I am pretty sure the leaderboards will be the primary way of earning the mini llamas, I will not mind if you can acquire one mini per month by casual play (top 500).
Along with 1 additional mini by playing pvp tourney perhaps getting past the initial round – the way they did it during the previous tournament of legends.
This will keep the pvp community populated and the queues will stay reasonable.
Also, previously lost llamas, which were lost due to players adding them to the wardrobe need to be refunded to the players and all future ones should not get destroyed when we add them to the wardrobe(except the final lavish one)
Getting a Lavish llama will then still require more than a year which is still a little too long but still manageable.

Hi all,
Trying to achieve the Lavish Llama at the current rate would be, as someone aptly noted, madness! The good news is, next week will bring some concrete details on how you can start earning them at a much more rapid pace through participating in select tournaments.
-Josh
Thanks for your reply josh!
Still, refunding the one which is unlocked for your wardrobe would be awesome!
Since your playerbase didn’t know about your future plans.

And the reward for winning wvw week after week is …drumroll….6 greens after you make 3 more wvw levels.
Maybe Josh can take a look at the wvw achievements and fix those too…

With that said, Weeks of busting your butts for rewards you can easily get by spending 5mins in Silverwaste.

Much more in keeping with the smooth flow and feel of the wvw achievements;-) Yep, the sarcasm is strong in this one:-)
I know they aren’t your fault Josh, but a gentle bomb under whoever’s seat it is would be much appreciated- I’ll even start a whip round for the legal fees!

well then, that sounds about right, how can you be so dapper, when all the other chaps in town have the same miniature! Preposterous!
1,000,000 seems adequate for such a luxury, to prove one’s worth in miniature format I suppose.
But all-in-all, the Super Miniatures are much sharper than a debonair Llama regardless good sir!

I thought the opposite sadly: “participating in select tournaments”. Seems to me that they’re gonna keep pushing twitch/third party tournaments.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

On a serious note, can we actually have some feedback on the WvW achievements/reward system potentially being changed? It was brought up by a dev a long time back but hasn’t been heard about since. Plus, the WvW achievements issues have kind of been brought back to discussion with the Obsidian Sanctum Ultimate Dominator farming drama.

The ones that usually have 5 teams participating?
Yes, I cant wait to join another of your “select tournaments”.
Better fix WvW, an easy start would be the WvW achievements :https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-achievements-6
But is there a way to use the unlocked version in the wardrobe in the forge?
Otherwise you’ll need more llamas

1,000,000 Caravans Destroyed (lifetime)
100,000 Keeps Captured (lifetime)
1,000,000 Total Objectives Defended (lifetime)
Any idea if you can give me some concrete details on how I can start earning these titles at a much more rapid pace?
Thanks.

U gotta be kidding us! If this achievement is madness, what about WvW’s? For more than 2 years we’ve been listening to you guys saying that it’s too complicated to cut off some zeros of the achievements.
Can you at least tell us if it’ll be fix with the release of HoT or if there’s no hope for that at all? We’d sure appreciate some feedback like people got in this tread.
Why don’t you guys post about your WvW achievement woes in the WvW section where it belongs. I don’t think Josh even has anything to do with the WvW achievements, I even know you guys already have a thread in that section so use it.

Because WvW section is abandoned by anet, since PvP is their lovechild. Anet forgets most people only play PvP for the rewards (titles, AP, reward tracks, finishers) and not because they enjoy it.

Because it’s like pulling teeth to get ANet to say anything in the WvW section. Even the WvW forum specialist hasn’t posted anything since Febuary.

If you think you are being neglected as a PvP player, you dont want to be a WvW player. Its like 20 times worse for WvW. And if Anet does something its usually the opposite of what the regular WvW players asked for.

Are you allowed to say whether there’s going to be any other way to obtain Mini Llamas? 27 through community events isn’t exactly a fair way to get a mini for most of the playerbase, is it? I can understand wanting to make something prestigious, but this seems a tad over the top.
The problem in this progression is there is no way to get a Mini LLama when you’ve unlocked it on the wardrobe.
This means you need 27 mini llamas to get a Mini Lavish Llama only if you go directly to it, you put in the bank 27 mini llamas and you don’t unlock mid step versions (normal, fancy, elegant) during the way (probably you’ll get all versions at the end when you’ll unlock the final version).
But if you want to unlock all mid step versions during the way, the total to get a mini llama Lavish is 40 llamas.
normal —> 1 (unlocked)
fancy --> 3 (unlocked)
elegant —> 9 (unlocked)
Lavish--> 27 (unlocked)
Total 40
Anet should give us a chance to get “phishically” the unlocked version to use it in the mystic forge.
Basically is how if you’re building a legendary weapon, you decide to unlock the precursor skin and the precursor disappears and you can’t use it on the forge for build the legendary and you need to get another one.
(edited by MarkPhilips.5169)
The mini might be unlocked when you use it in the forge like skins are which means you would maybe lose any you already dropped in your wardrobe BUT if you just save the rest of them you can unlock them when you create the next level.

Sadly no, when you craft one new version of the mini llama, you unlock only the new mini pet in your inventory but if you want to unlock the skin you need to store it on your wardrobe (consequently you’ll lose it and you won’t able to use it in the mystic forge.)

So for the rest of us who aren’t good enough to get in those tourneys, it’s still gonna be 27 llamas. Thanks for the heads up.

I’m both, and neither is a picnic. But you make it sound like pvp is skating on rainbows made of ice cream. As though pvpers aren’t annoyed by the kittenshow they are also experiencing.
“Anet’s way of motivating players after so much work is giving a special mini pet”
And with these words he left the esports convention with a trail of competitive players from other games laughing on the ground.
A-net, do you need suggestions for good rewards? If your goal is to motivate players to keep playing gw2 and have a bigger pvp community (which it should) this is not working as intended.

One of the main goals for ArenaNet right now is to try to get people who haven’t to try out the game mode, since they might like it. Mini Llamas aren’t supposed to entice the top tier players. It’s to get new players into the game mode and reward the mid tier players. Remember in the ToLs where you got a Mini if you got past the first round? It got a lot more people to try out competing than there would have been. You just need to understand who they are targeting with this reward.
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
I believe there’s nothing wrong about targeting players who haven’t tried the game mode yet. What they are doing wrong is ignoring the other targets, in particular those already faithfull to the game mode and looking for something to keep them motivated in playing the game, and also ignoring the true reason why ToLs reward had so much impact and now it does not work anymore.
I will give the example of macdonalds in my country below, which had 2 promotion campaigns about collecting things, their failures and their conclusions.
One of them was the Monopoly game, where they would give a certain ammount of stickers (which represented cities or a train stations) in each menu, depending on thow expensive it was, and you had to collect a group of them in order to get the prize.
- 1st time: worked like a charm and the sales went up in macdonalds like never before.
- 2nd time: with more difficulty and shorter duration, they had much more people interested, some who couldn’t get the first time and new consumers.
- 3rd time: like 2nd time, but when they noticed the less sales they tried to hold it for a longer duration so they could make the same results.
- 4th time: the last one, it was some years ago, and they tried to give a lot more stickers in each menu and made the promotion last for longer than it should.
Their conclusion was that giving the same rewards over and over again made their consumers to lose interest after their 2nd time.
The other promotion was giving Coca-Cola cups by buying a certain menu.
The first times they did it they had a lot of more sales because each time the cups were a different collection due to their shape (each collection had multiple colours). Interesting enough they also stopped doing it for a while but then they decided to do it again.
The questions to ask are: What happened? And what did they changed? well, they had like 8 different collections, so they probably noticed it wasn’t because of it. Then they decided to give consumers the oportunity to ask for the cup of the colour they wanted, but made sure there were a more limited ammount of 2 unique colours that only a part of those consumers (the more competitive ones) tried to search. This promotion happened last year again for a very short duration and it might happen again this year.
Their conclusion was that consumers want different types of rewards each time there’s a promotion and they also want to have the choice of what prizes they want and how hard it is to get them.
They also made a clear note from both situations: things like these need to have a very short duration.
What A-net is trying to do is giving the same reward over and over again, after they already lost the interest of a big ammount of players who actually participated in ToL. They have a lot of reward choices for players (chests), but it’s not harder to obtain them and they aren’t exclusive to PVP. They have other things they could use for good rewards, but they kept doing what worked the first time. And they also keep their Leaderboards going for too long (3 months? really?).
All of this for one target (which isn’t very efficient since they will lose interest fast) in the cost of their other targets. If the expansion and Stronghold weren’t announced, this mode would have a lot less players than it has right now.
@Aztex
Many PvPers don’t see the Mini Llama has anything special. However, I play every game mode, and it does get a lot of comments. I think more people want the Mini Llama than you think, and adding to it isn’t a bad call in my opinion. Constantly creating new casual rewards for PvP would be a lot of effort and consume resources.
On the topic of rewarding players faithful to the game mode: I expect that to come more when they finish with the leaderboard/ladder. At the moment it’s lackluster, but I think it’s wrong to say they’re ignoring it. Anet is just… slow… sometimes.

Thx, this means you need 40 mini llamas to unlock every version.
You can directly go for mini Lavish (27 mini llamas) but it won’t unlock previous versions.
