5vs5 : What makes ONE class overpowered ?

A class that excels in most situations.
Take mesmer for example, it’s strong in everything between 1v1 up to 5v5 and on top of this also has the addition of the portal which is the single strongest skill when it comes to outrotating your opponent. You can see that in EU cups when TCG can win a match vs oRNG despite losing every team fight.

imho a balanced class in an MMO should have 2 aspects, survival and damage.
as the survival goes up the damage should go down
as the damage goes up the survival should go down.
middleground survival should yield middleground damage.
i’m all for a class being able to nuke people in 2 seconds, as long as that person dies the moment they look at him!

If only conquest was as simple as 5v5.
To be honest if you looked at the maths that went into balancing the classes you would be bewildered as to how professional the team is.
I’d say some classes are just easier to use than others.
Is rampage really OP? According to the maths probably not, but using skills 12345 for 20 seconds just to kill is very easily done. (Don’t nerf me ANET)
Having the best of both worlds: being able to tank 3 players while still being able to put out lots of DPS (Ele, Guard, and Necro). Having an I win elite skill on a 2.5 min timer (Warr: Rampage), even though you almost beat me hands down with skill alone. People abusing OP burn builds (Ele, Guard, Engi). I’m going to only shoot you from 1200 range with no risk but plenty of reward (Ranger).
General anwer is simple: reward vs risk, effort vs effect. You know the class is broken when it requires too little effort to have huge impact on match.

Please explain, how can the team with the Mesmer be good in 1v1 and 5v5 but still lose every team fight?

I didn’t say they lose every team fight. I said that even if the team DOES lose every team fight, they can still win through smart use of their portal.

Both answers are incorrect.
Both ‘risk’ and ‘effort’ are subjective, especially in game focused on team play.
I would say profession is broken when it outperform others in purpose they should fulfil more or less equaly. As good example we can use ‘+1’ zerker/marauder roamers: a) Mesmer, b) Thief, c) Ranger, where a => b > c.

Team A has more sustain/group support so they win fights, team B has more mobility and can outmanouvre enemies easily without winning fights.

I am really curious.
The same OP classes all on one team. I just went 500-75. 3 Mesmers and 2 Eles they’d just warp between points and bunker down. Basically a warping zerg.
And ironically a premade in unranked. Go figure.

This was all that needed to be said in response to the OP
