hmmm what do you mean?
okay my question was
why was 8v8 custom arenas hosted by ArenaNet removed?
i better edit it properly.
thanks for the feedback!
well, other than this and the warrior nerfs, i enjoyed the other changes.
This thread will go awry very soon. You have been warned. Every single player who considers HJ is bad will come and troll you.
I can’t foresee you gathering much support being against warrior and hotjoin nerfs
I do, however, foresee this thread turning into comedy gold

heheh thanks for the warning.
does not matter.
if they make a mistake with their trolling attempts there is a chance for them to receive some forum infractions.

heheheh that i know of course.
well, if it makes people happy then at least this thread will have achieved something.
thanks for dropping by!
I am very upset by this change!
5v5 is a good format for structured games, but 8v8 was one of the only playable hotjoin modes. 5v5 depopulates too fast, an 8v8 server can afford to lose a person or two because it will fill just as quickly. I have played a number of 5v5 hotjoins since the patch and I haven’t seen 1 finish with the losing team having more than 2 players. The lobby dies and then I have to go back to the HotM and rejoin…
Please bring back official 8v8s!
rank farm nooooo

Well hot join is officially kittened atm…thx
still no reply from them?
i appreciate if justin or josh could come here and say something.
some reasons i could think of.
1. they want to “encourage” gem store sales of custom arena kit
2. they got fed up with seeing complaints requesting removal of 8 vs 8 hotjoin
i think it is probably a combination of both.
since there is already a topic about thanking them for the removal of official anet hosted 8 vs 8 servers.
ANet’s original logic behind 8v8 hot join went like this: 5v5 hot join didn’t work well because hot join was so volatile with people leaving/joining. So they wanted slightly larger teams. ANet didn’t think players would do a good job of distributing themselves around the map in 6v6 or 7v7, so they went with 8v8.
However, 8v8 hot join was too overcrowded. It didn’t teach anyone how to play conquest well. It also made it harder for players to learn; they would win or lose based on multiple allies showing up, not on the the strength or weakness of their skill or build. In comparison, 5v5 has a slower enough pace that you have some time to think and analyze what happened and you’re less likely to be carried by your team in fights.
Since launch, ANet also added observer slots, so you can now overflow rooms by a few people, making rooms less prone to 4v5 from volatility.

By that logic, ANet should never create more modes and remove TDM because it doesn’t teach players how to play conquest.

Nobody cares. If you want big 8v8s make a custom arena or go WvW

Oh lol nice, they’re removing hotjoin? :p
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

Obviously somebody cares. Otherwise no one would have played 8v8. Oh, you mean you don’t care. Fine, that’s ok.
Every single player who considers HJ is bad will come and troll you.
Don’t need others to troll him when he’s already doing such a splendid job all on his own.
I might no longer play, but even I welcome the news the abomination has finally been dealt with. Talk about long overdue.

Not very sure how it affects you or why you care. Were you forced to 8v8? In which case I apologize on behalf of the person who made you do it.
aye, thanks everyone for the feedback!

hmmm i think this explanation is most logical.
as of now, only 5 vs 5 custom arenas hosted by anet remains. and this morning (gmt+8:00) i noticed that almost all of them are 20/20 so that means 10 are playing and 10 are watching, waiting in line for the next map to kick in and get a spot in either teams to play.
wow, such wait, much spectating.
still, since launch, i think a lot of people have grown fond of the chaos fond in anet hosted 8 vs 8 games (with standard map rotation and standard map settings, 15 minutes, 500 score etc) and such players are usually not very keen to play in solo / team arena game modes.
on the other hand, it seems like the player owned custom arenas are seeing much more love than before, many custom arenas seems to be full of players when i last checked the game browser this morning.
perhaps this is their intention?
remove the official servers, so player owned custom arenas may have more players joining in, hence encouraging more players to buy their own custom arenas?
if this is the reason, then maybe i can accept it. perhaps it is time for me to buy a custom arena for myself and load it up with the standard map rotation and standard map settings that is found in the old 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers hosted by anet.
then again i will probably not do that.
since there are plenty of other custom arenas around.
time to check those out and enjoy some chaos in player owned custom arenas!
I can’t for the life of me understand why people hated the 8v8. Nobody was forcing you into them and there were plenty of 5v5 hotjoins around. So why the hate? It was a good place for more PvE-oriented people to get a small taste of PvP and do their dailies/AP farm, and the matches ended faster.

i think the bulk of the hate came from players who played solo arenas mainly.
after some time, they started blaming the 8 vs 8 hotjoin games hosted by anet for the quality of players that participate in the solo arenas.
i think the player owned 8 vs 8 custom arenas will have to suffice for now.
if i set the filter to be
8 vs 8 and max score 500 then perhaps i can still enjoy 8 vs 8 games since there seems to be a lot of players playing in player owned custom arenas since the patch hit.
as for the official 5 vs 5 custom arenas hosted by anet which i see are often 20/20 i would imagine many of those are players new to sPvP and simply hit the “play now” button which puts them in there.
perhaps this is anet’s way of telling players new to sPvP to spectate existing 5 vs 5 games first before trying out sPvP themselves?
as for existing players who already knew how to use the filter to find games they want, we can still find 8 vs 8 games since there seems to be enough 8 vs 8 player owned custom arenas around at the moment.
it would be nice though if we can see the time remaining on player owned custom arenas, then perhaps some regular players may donate (wishful thinking ha!) some custom arena time tokens. perhaps i should suggest this in a new topic.
I struggle to understand this one myself. There already were “dedicated” spots for 5v5 matches, ranked games.
Yes, there are 8v8 and 10v10 custom servers, luckily, but if ANet wanted an unranked tournament environment, they should have done just that – add an unranked queue.
On top of that the 5v5 servers have a 20 player limit. I join a 6/20 one, by the time I load there are 4 spectators and full teams.
I was under the impression that hotjoins were supposed to be sPvP lite, the higher player counts were part of what made them fun and different. Why add redundancy since a dedicated 5v5 mode already exists and offers better rewards? Outside of the custom servers (that someone has to pay for one way or the other) hotjoins seem pointless now.
all right i just tried out some games in hotjoin.
i tried to find a 8 vs 8 custom game, there is only one with enough players, but it is full, and i do not wish to spectate or wait. the other custom arenas seems to be empty.
so i browse through the official 5 vs 5 hosted by anet, i joined a 7/10 players one.
got inside, played.
well, not that bad, i guess.
seems like i will have to get myself used to this now.
