After patch my win ratio went to 20%...
I know exactly how you feel. It’s been happening to me too. I have been going back and forth in that one division for days

The common denominator is you. Sure there are outliers like AFK’ers and team speak opponents that are beyond your control but
I am not the best player in the world, just average.
What do you base this on? Leaderboard percentile is a good measure (win/loss records are relative to the particular pool you’re in so 45% win/loss ratio at the 95th percentile is more skilled than a 60th percentile player with a 60% win loss so while they matter aren’t as important as leaderboard points in judging skill) but that is taken down.
If you are worse than average in reality it just means you need to learn more basic things including map awareness, rotations, and skill. What exactly is skill however? The word is thrown around a lot, we know it when we see it or a lack of it, but how do we define it?
Skill is the precise timing of optimal skills, especially interrupts and dodges for a given situation. If I have distracting daggers out and someone is glowing light blue for example I know I should spend a dagger within milliseconds because I know if it connects too late he’ll get the heal off whereas an interrupt with that particular ability means he’s locked out of the heal for 10 seconds. I know I have lots of room for improvement because while the skill reliably interrupts certain skills some skills are quite fast so I need to practice tighter reaction time. Since autoattacks have no cooldowns the skill doesn’t work for them but may still be an okay idea to spend a dagger on it just for the pulminary impact.
Or it could be chaining skills like the Glint reveal and sword 5 to ensure you pull a stealthed opponent off a rezzer. Likewise a left arm moved back and pulling in pinkish energy means the moa transform spell is coming so dodge it. There are countless examples.
I feel for you, I had to same exact problem 60%w/l to 40% for me and given the number of games I played it was a big drop. Issue is so many beginners either got ginny pigged up based on the old system, or managed to grind to emerald/ruby. Soloing after the patch is incredibly difficult.

I know it is not my fault (not totally) when: the thief keeps zerging and dying in the aoe. The ele dies in like 2 hits. My team keeps going to a extremely defended point and losing time there. We winning by more than 100 points at Legacy of Foefire and my team rushes the lord, losing the match, and so on. In some matches my team is unable to cap 1 point, no kidding.
Of course, part of the defeats are mine too since I am part of the team, but it is not mine alone. Not to mention I reached last tier of division 3 playing full solo, so I am not a noob. The problem started in the last patch.
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
I am on last tier of division 3, but is absolutely impossible to reach division 4. I win 1, but lose like 4 in a row. It started since the last patch.
I am not the best player in the world, just average. However, I noticed I am always being set to the weakest side over and over. I already tried to change classes, different times of the day, but nothing works. Since the last patch it is absolutely impossible to leave this tier. I am absolutely so tired of this. I just keep trying because of the achievement.
You can always try to improve yourself changing professions helps nothing if you can’t use any of them well. You can always try, like others, to grind your way through sapphire.
Also if no one is taking the lead to organize the team you can always do it yourself…

The common denominator is you.
Let’s get something straight. You are 1 player out of 10 on the map. That means at best you have a 10% impact on the match and its outcome. If you’re wildly mismatched, then perhaps you could have more impact – for better or worse. But your logic is beyond fail.
Take your common denominator and shove it back where you pulled it from.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
One more example I am not the cause of the defeats (not always) happened in the last match:
In Temple of Silent Storm I warned my team about Tranquility 30 seconds earlier, so I went to defend the spirit. I was able to defend it alone for 30s in a 1×2 fight, while 3 players of my team were fighting for ferocity…

Match making is absurdly broken at the moment, and ANet has acknowledged as much. If the only reason you’re continuing to PvP is for the achievement then you’re in luck. You’re achievement progress will not be reset until the end of the year. So you’re more than welcome to take a break from the game, wait for ANet to sort out the match making and balance for next season, and then pick up where you left off with the achievement, but in a (hopefully) healthier league system.

I know, but I would like to reach at least division 4 so Legendary Wings could be possible for next seasons

Actually your logic is nonexistent if you think all 10 players on the field are equal. A really good or really bad player can have a much larger effect than that.

To reinforce your point one of the ways of having a bigger effect than that is improving your leading skills.

Match Making Ratings have been frozen since the last patch Friday. Lots of people are experiencing what you are or the exact opposite – unusually high win rates. Most are not since they are Plebs who always have a mid-ranged MMR like the above posters.
I was 4 pips from diamond, now I’m zero pips into Ruby. It’s been a rough week.
After this patch i wasted 20hrs to up 1pip in the ruby 4tier(soloQ). So i gave up this game yesterday, sorry guys, i couldn’t play anymore because i am tired & unlucky.
Here is my story.
Was in ruby before xmas pretty much stuck at t5-6 ruby until Anet admitted that match making was rigged vs people with high mmr. Whatever they changed made me go from ruby t5 to diamond in 1 day.
Made it to t3 diamond pretty easy .
Then they changed match making again . Whatever they did pretty much screwed me over. 5 – 7 game losing streaks followed by 4-5 game winning streaks. A lot of pips gained from losing matches leads to me to think that once gain I’m getting screwed and been placed on team that have lower real mmr in matches.
So now instead of just bounce between kitten diamond everyday I gave up and started playing alt to get achievement. If I’m going to be placed in impossible matches might as well do it on a kittenty toon
Remember, your “skill” is how well you help a team win. This game has no way of measuring your personal skill. Everything is based on how a team does.

If that is true it is a great problem. All my chars are having this issue and it is absolutely impossible to win 2 matches in a row.
Unfortunatelly, it seems Anet reads this forum once per month. It will be impossible for me to reach Division 4 before the season ends… Bye legendary wings in season 3.
You went over your division with the previous system, where you can climb the division by winning low MMR matches..

This isn’t true. While I am loath to admit it, I have single-handily lost a match for my team. I wasn’t trying to make us lose, I simply made a mistake, but it was costly. A misrotation, prolonged 1v1, a cleave where you should have stomped, or a stomp where you should have cleaved can all swing games, especially close ones. It only takes one person.
(Yes, I reflect a lot on a loss and try to not to make the same mistake twice. Of course this usually leads me to make another mistake, but that is why I keep playing. I’m chasing the flawless game.)

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I was 5 pips from diamond. I stop after I lose three in a row though. It’s been frustrating.

Your win ratios were in ranked or you just play the pvp game, manipulated the win ratio ( by entering the winners side), and you now wonder why are you at sapphire?! Who is at sapphire deserves to have 20-30-40% win ratio, I am at diamond, and I have 46,(9)% win ratio. ( Unranked doesn’t approve to that you had a good win ratio), only ranked is validated as win ratio…
My win ratio was always the same, from the beginning …
My win ratio went from 55% to 20% after the patch – considering only ranked arenas obviously.
I feel you OP, I played for 4 hours straight in PvP, lost every single match. I finally won one, and called it a day.

Errr…the leaderboard atm is only based on ranked games played from this season and last season…So…Top 1000 atm and all the rest of the percentile, isnt even valid since they didnt reset the scoreboard before new season started. That means alot of people had more points than others when season started, since indeed this game is based on grinding points. Leaderboards hasnt been valid/accurate since a year back…
So that means, people who played the most games during season, most likely have higher percentile/rating too. Before the leaderbords were based on ALL matches played in ranked, thats no longer the case.
So basically people who had alot of sparetime and no life who only played pvp this season has higher percentile, meanwhile people who didnt have time to play as much have lower.

OP you will get posters who will undoubtedly suggest that it’s mostly your fault but I’m inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that it’s not. At least not entirely. You might be making mistakes but as long as they’re not catastrophic mistakes that result in a thrown match then I think it’s safe to say that you’re just unfortunate with the teams you’re drawing.
One of the most frustrating things about solo queue is that you can ping the map, you can call targets, you can tell people where you want them to go in team chat but none of that can guarantee a win. You have to be able to trust the other people on every team you play on to get things right. That’s a tall order with strangers. Just try to focus on doing your job well. If you do that and you still lose then you tried your best and that’s all anyone can ever ask of you.
Funny. I have the direct opposite experience.
Makes sense. If people are losing, someone has to win. Congrats on being that someone. Want to trade places?
Something seems wrong about the match making. Queue times are often 5+ mins even during day time or early evening and queue often restarts. And I am lowly rank 47 player, so there must be a lot others with similar low rank as me?
I used to have 57+ % win rate in ranked and over 62 % win rate in the leagues. I always solo queue. Now I had just 1 win 12 games. Having 7 losses in a row in ranked is my longest loss streak of all time.
Maybe I was just unlucky because couple of those games we had just 4 vs 5 enemies and some losses were very narrow. I don’t lose games intentionally. I tried to win, but still some games were just impossible e.g. we had 3 thieves + 2 necros in our team and nobody wanted to swap. In another game I did swapped my character just before the match to get a better team composition and that was a win for us.
(edited by Deniara Devious.3948)
I noticed also that some of those matches were meant to be lost no matter what you do. For instance, the system set 3 thieves on one side against 3 dh on another (all solo players). Must I say which side won?
I’m doing ok with my new warrior build. This is all in ruby. (about half way through right now, all wins with my warrior so far soloq)
I have generally had a better matchmaking experience (in terms of Divisions of players on both sides) after the matchmaking change. Granted, my solo/duoq win rate has been been around 70-80% since patch, but the only explanation I can come up with is way too many people got boosted and/or smurfed their ways into Divisions they don’t belong to.
Thousand Lakes Alliance [TLA], Desolation
4 Champion titles, solo/duoq Legend, best old LB rank 64.
Well, of course if somebody has long losses streaks, somebody else must have those win streaks. Nevertheless 6-8 wins/losses in the row and then 1-2 losses-wins, should not be the norm.
I hope we would soon get a developer reply.
I finally won 2 matches. It is a miracle! I hope I can go to normal (55% win ratio) again.
The enemy team was clearly weaker than my team in those 2 matches.
I have one tier to get through sapphire, and I’ve been decimated since the patch.
Knocked down so much than I spend my time watching teammates try 3 caps and fighting off points.
crying.. never.. I don’t need a legendary backpiece this badly.

Been playing since about 9 this morning, won 2 matches at the start, lost everything else. Safe to say, I’m staying well away from PvP league next time. Next time someone comes up with a great idea, I hope they float it with the community first.

Unfortunatelly you were right
After the 2 wins, I lost 4 matches in a row… in the last one I got stuck in the wall due to the bug already reported here in the forum. Solution? Anet doesn’t care.
Same experience for me. Sapphire division last tier. I win “only” 30-40% of my games which results in getting stuck at that tier. Sure there are games I could perform better. But most lost games are because of team composition (daily) or judging teams to strong or to weak. As a solo player it is frustating that the matchup algorithm decides the outcome of almost all games no matter how good or bad I play.
Hmm, it seems my luck turned. I got 6 wins in past 7 games. And most wins were easy (~200-500 wins).
same here, I bet you they changed match making again lol
Also keep in mind that later in the day tends to have stronger players? School is out during prime hours and that’s when the toughest times are? Coincidence? I think not! Those 13 year olds are just too tough.

What do you think should happen in a competitive environment?

Go up against people in the same division as me, not fight people 2 or 3 divisions higher which is what’s happening to me alot.
It’s painfully obvious to everyone that after 3 years ANet tests nothing before letting it go live, and they want PvP to become an Esport? Not gong to happen while they carry on like this. Do they not think how the systems they come up with can be abused?
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
I don’t think its fair to say they test nothing. I’m sure they do test, but once the changes are opened to everyone, all hell breaks loose. I commiserate with the OP. I was progressing up through Ruby when they made the last change. BAM! After 70+ matches, I can’t leave tier 4 (except to dip into 3.) I agree with every other frustrated poster that something’s wrong. Is it my own skill? I made it to this point then hit a brick wall, so I’d say my skill seems to have little to do with it. On my main, I’ve got almost 150 ranked wins. So it’s easy to say “just get better” but I think there’s a lot more to it than that. And if MMR really was frozen a week ago, then that would explain a lot. But I haven’t heard ANet say that.
Someone asked what I expect from a competition. I do not expect this. I expect it to be hard but before last week, I saw reasonable forward progress. FWIW, I have not been up against any named teams lately so I can’t blame that.
Bottom line: This ain’t fun anymore. It clearly seems to be broken. but since we only have a few more days, I doubt anything more can or should be done. Play your alts!
I am not the best player in the world, just average. However, I noticed I am always being set to the weakest side over and over.
They changed the way match making works with the patch on the 15th and they refuse to explain what they did. Many people are experiencing the same thing you are or the exact opposite – winning many more matches than usual.

They did explain what they did. As a matter of fact, it’s in a thread you started.
I’ve just given up on winning matches at this point. I haven’t won a single match in a week, nor been in any position to win one. I just line up to get my three participation trophies and then I’m done for the night. Fun.

Something is definitely up. Was pretty consistent before, but now I’m having losing streaks like crazy. Heck I got matched with people I lost against 3 times in a row. I mean, shouldn’t the MMR at this point be too far apart for this to happen? The first and third game were almost the exact same teams facing each other. It felt like groundhog day and this happened during prime time.
I’d love to play on one of your accounts just to see if your claims about being stuck because of matchmaking are true… I know, there wouldn’t be any volunteers, but still…
