Q:
Somehow the Anet team have made some decisions that go against the flow of logic. Their game is very awesome, the betas looked very promising and it appeared that this game is about giving you the best in every possible MMO way. The devs have accomplished this to SOME extend, but some of the design just doesn’t make any sense.
I am just trying to understand this. I will present my case by giving you a couple of examples of my own experiences while participating in the Random Arenas.
Apparently hardly anyone is joining these maps anymore, it might be the timezone, it might be the fact that most players have probably dedicated their time to tPVP only, or people are just bored, I don’t know, but I am entering random arenas on my own, or with 1 or 2 more people very often.
This is, of course, presenting me with a couple of opportunities. One of these is to quit the map and just give up on doing arenas at that particular moment of time, while the other one is to try and conduct some 1v1 pvp, if it’s possible.
So far I’ve had the most fun in pvp while dueling. I am not trying to exaggerate here, doing consequent 1v1 fights has brought a ton of pleasure on my table. Everything comes together here – even the downed state makes perfect sense and can be a true changer of a duel’s outcome.
One of the nights I ended up in a map with 2 other people, of which 1 was a thief in my team and the other one was an elementalist from the opposing team. He explained that he didn’t want to do any duels with a thief because it didn’t make sense. I replied that he will never get any better if he doesn’t try, to which he responded: “But this guy is actually pretty good.”
Eventually the map changed and the ele left, leaving me (as an Ele) and the thief. We decided to do duels and it was great fun! We fought for an hour or so. Our duels very balanced most of the time, while some ended in seconds. Whenever I was writing something in the chat or didn’t pay attention – the thief would 1-2 shot me. But when we were both paying attention the duels were long and very intense. A few times we were so close to killing each other, that we would both go into downed state at the same time, escaping to a safe distance, healing ourselves up and then continuing our fight.
It was amazing and I’ve had several of these experiences. This can never happen in a team environment and I am just trying to understand how can ArenaNet refuse to integrate a Dueling option in our game? What’s with that, seriously? This is like walking by a bag of gold ingots and just passing it by, ’cause you are in a rush to go think of something to nerf.
I don’t get why this still isn’t in the game and I don’t even want to talk about the lack of GvG, it will just make everyone sad again.
So could someone from Anet be so kind as to answer my question:
Why don’t we have the amazing, awesome feature of dueling, which will only bring unbelievable fun and happiness to all the players of Guild Wars 2?
