Would a fix be to simply place you in a higher league tier based on a previous seasons performance? This would reward the veterans of previous seasons and place them within a higher bracket than new or less skilled players.

Example: If you reached Legend in Season 1 then in Season 2 you start in Ruby, or if you made it to Diamond in Season 1 then in Season 2 you start in Sapphire.

you do realize a lot of bad players got to legend/diamond last season thanks to exploits, low mmr, sh farm etc.

But they didn’t, and they’re aiming towards a skill based ladder instead of a grind based ladder. I agree with the overall direction it’s headed, the downside is that Amber and Emerald will be random as hell.

For some of us it isn’t random, for some of us we continually get placed against teams with significantly higher mmr then us leading to huge loss streaks. If you and anet can’t see how this is a problem for player retention well…………….. There is a player on another thread who says that he had a 65 match losing streak, assuming he is right thats ridiculous.

Its easy to say a wait a week its only a short time, if you’re in the middle of loss streaks it feels like an endless grind. And the theory of it improving once the high level players moving out is just that a theory, my mmr would have taken a hit from the large losing streaks which means I get placed with worse and worse players and as an average player I can’t carry 4 bad players.

Not to mention that a lot of the time I am not getting placed with players of my own skill level I’m getting placed with players who don’t know how to rotate who don’t know how to play the secondary objectives etc.

I think, maybe they should add something like League did:
you play 10 tryout matches (with each win you face stronger teams), depending how many wins and who you won against, you get placed higher in divisions.

That being said, a lot of players overestimate their skill level and complains about having bad teams will never cease.

Youre saying u cant think of a single scenario where a good player might get caught in a death spiral of losses beyond his/her control – dc’ers, afker’s, match manipulaters throwing games cuz they didn’t read patch notes to c mmr is newly calc’d, rerolls, 4 players paired w./ ts against all solo q’ers, newbies, noobs, rage quitters, rerolls (y the kitten is that EVER allowed), bad team compositions, unbalanced skills/classes/players etc. Give me a break. I am in a 72 loss streak. I do not suck, after 12 years of playing gw pvp. Please. Youre just so rude and shallow and wearing blinders. 5solo vs 5solo is not guaranteed it’ll always give fair matches,but it takes the
100% unfairness of parties and teams against solos out of the equation.
It’s a good start.

HA! Perfected he says! This is assuming that leagues can even WORK.

The system is set up to move elite players through the lower tiers fast by feeding them the lower level players. Causing much hate and discontent among the lower ranks. Please Anet, cut the bs and just seed the elites into a higher division to start. That is my request for season 3 I guess…

Why doesn’t anyone use lfg for pvp? It would give would-be solo q’s a chance to form a ragtag team prior to matchup. Every time I look in pvp lfg it’s empty, and if I advertise, no one joins…

You have no idea what the individual MMRs are, and being in a party doesn’t automatically equate to better communication. It’s likely you’re worse off in a party than on your own. TS can make a difference though.

All your matches are on mesmer, you enjoy playing mesmer, cool.

How are you trying to use it though?

Casters are my least favorite class archetype but still play mesmer from time to time to stay refreshed on timing, skills and combos for when I face them.

When I play as one though, my primary focus is to portal play, using insane mobility and positioning to maintain points, bait and swap my team into places they need to be, when they need to be there.

Are you just running in, trying to use your “individual skill” to try and kill some random target at mid before you go down? Or are you trying to properly aid your team and abuse the terrain to your advantage?

As a note to my many detractors;

I just came from a match in which I 1v1’d and killed a revenant. The other player was wearing a “Primordial Legend” tag, I started at considerably less than 100% while he was fresh. the match lasted seconds and he lost.

I’ve got to be honest, from your own descriptions it sounds to me like you are. I’m willing to be proven wrong though, are you online and wanting a duel? I realize you have nothing to gain but I’m just curious. I’ve had 5 beers and this can be purely off the record.

If you look at the score, you’ll see most of his losses where complete stomps.

I like most have no problem losing a match, but when it’s a complete stomp, again and again. It makes you wonder just how in the world the match making system works, especially when your on a team with stacked thieves and warriors.

Duels don’t mean too much by themselves. Conquest is still a PPT + PPK game. It requires good rotations, good dueling, and good teamwork.

I’m curious what level of competency we’re talking about here. I am not familiar with the OP and it seems like a lot of people think she’s a terrible player.
