I think most of you know world of warcraft.

And some of You even played it. I did at least. I quit due to huge monthly fees and expansions comming out in 2-3 year difference.

But there was seriously 1 thing I loved in World of warcraft.

Battlegrounds. Even now in mists of Pandaria with new game types it’s just amazing and makes me want to get back to it tho. Payments.

So How Would You feel having in Guild wars 2 Kind of battlegrounds with these kind of game types :

1) Capture flag. Basic XvX match, capping flag. Same as In WoW. Untill You get Your flag back You cannot cap it – points awarded for capping & killing. it would force on players amazing PvP rotations and thinking ahead of how to make teams either to defend flag holder or to attack opposite one.

2) The new Cart capping. it’s crazy. 1 mining cart and whos closer it moves to it’s base location giving points. In guild wars it could be hard to execute but definately it would make a difference in pvp. why ? it would force ppl to first take controll of it and then move with it making maybe kind of amushes for enemy team to prevent them from taking controll of it. This kind of pvp is tricky and still some people might thing it’s booring as current point capping.

3) Alterac valley. Most of ppl heard or played it. 1 big zerg rush to enemy location to kill lord. But before you can kill it you need to weaken it by taking down towers. This kind of battlegound could be very fun and entertaining in Guild wars 2. Why ? Because it would force players to defend thier points from being destroyed and at the same time pushing hard offensive. Even while those points would be destroyed there would be still last hope to save the lord and so on. This open whole new level of pvp for guild wars 2. It could be hard to execute due to CPU problems with many people around. First Client would require a serious fix.

4)Relic/items holding for points. yes it sounds again like cap and hold but this time it’s not some stationary point holding. Person is grabing an item something like flag or so and while holding it it counts points towards victory. Ofcourse it forces many Pvp sitations and more various build allocations. Yes bunker builds would be good but noone would win when both teams would have tons of them. It would force players to swap thier traits and go more offensive. This is to eliminate for exmaple 2 bunker build guardians standing in 1 point while 4-5 ppl of oposite team ( zerk builds ) try to cap it.

This game have a lot of potential. World v World is one of them. Only problem that I’ve meet in WvW is FPS problem. Im sure Anet will fix it someday but for now it’s either getting seriously expensive rigs or staying out of WvW. I know some ppl enjoy WvW even with 15 FPs but for me it’s unplayable.

Question To You is, what kind/types of new battlegrounds/maps Would You like to see or small scale PvP games?

ArenaNet have already said they are going to stay with the capture base mode and use it as their ground to everything. So we will not see any gamemodes for a long time.

I know their priority is private servers (which will cost gold/gems to use, BTW) and after that spectator mode and matchmaking. But after that please, PLEASE work on new game modes.

A piece of advice: in the future never mention World of Warcraft in a post because people will needlessly attack you. It stirs up a level of hate that American culture has developed over anything successful, i.e. Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, call of duty, World of Warcraft to name a few. It is probably the same on the World of Warcraft forums where you’re not allowed to talk about Guild Wars 2 because at the same time people are also defensive of their product. We name it fanboyism but it’s actually a natural human defect.

Wow is an MMORPG (the most popular, regardless if it’s the best or not) and so is Guild Wars 2. This means comparisons will be drawn, it cannot be helped. Same as comparing a Mustang to a Camero. Pepsi to Coke. Etc. If you can get past the fanboy hype and actually analize things for what they are, there is alot to be learned from observing the competition.

Wow has the player base to support this.

Sadly gw2 doesn’t, we cant split up the community of pvpers with too many game modes.

Thats just it tho. People DO care and they will QQ the game into the ground, because it is just that much harder to balance more then one game mode.

So many ppl QQd and left WoW because of the obvious imbalances that were rampant in that game. But it had the player base to withstand it. GW2 definitely does not have the player base for that. yet.

How do you think World of Warcraft started up in the very beginning? It didn’t have endgames or battlegrounds at the start. However they did had world pvp, but that was the only pvp in the game before any new stuff came in afterwards which took about a year or so.

Anet already said they’re coming up with new ideas for pvp so that will come. You’re doing the right thing though if you don’t want to frustrate yourself through pvp and etc. Take a break for a while until changes comes and they will come.

To be honest I don’t see me ever going back to WoW for a while. The only time I’ll go back to it is when they upgrade their models and stuff so I can play around with it for a month or 2 and that’s it.

As Hharry said the pve in this game is amazing..the story mode and choices you make does it for me.

tired, old argument. What was wow’s competition when they released? Then compare GW2s competition when released. Just because wow took 2 years to add meaningful pvp doesn’t give every other game a 2 year pass as well.

Just like all industries, you have to deliver a product that is on-par with the competition at that time, not on par with the competition 10 years ago. Rift released with multiple game modes and standard 1 match battlegrounds which gave debuff to quitters. I wish GW2 would go with this standard mode of play, but no. GW2 releases with one game mode, no penalty for quitters, god awful “hot join” and a 40 person requirement to start structured matches.

Sorry man but that’s how it is and you know GW2 will get better when they add more stuff to the game. As far as I know GW2 beats Wow in a lot of elements except end game and more pvp game modes. GW2 will get more pvp modes because that’s what they’re gearing for, but as for endgame I don’t really care too much about that crap. It was ok, but end game was like having a 2nd job with no paycheck. The only paycheck you got was epic gear and etc.

that’s how it is and why it’s failing and why it wont ever be able to rebound. And no, they aren’t gearing for more game modes, not anytime in the near future at least.

Imagine WoW releasing arena without rankings, it would have made zero sense, just like GW2 “competitive” pvp.

ArenaNet have already said they are going to stay with the capture base mode and use it as their ground to everything. So we will not see any gamemodes for a long time.

Do you have a link for this? I just wrote a long post complaining about the same thing, but if there is some official statement saying that they won’t implement new game modes in the near future, I guess that makes my decisions about this game easy. WvW has some appeal, but I came here for the PvP and I’m disappointed.

Btw, I’m quite willing to pay a monthly fee for a good game and I buy gems rather than farm for gold. I can imagine ArenaNet would place lesser value on the opinions of people who switched to this game just because WoW charges. I won’t go back to WoW, but someone is going to get my money.

You buy gems with money..that’s pretty much your monthly fee there. Plus the idea won’t work since they don’t do monthly fee and it’s on their advertisement. Why else would people buy this?

When they want to take a break from the game. They can always come back without worrying for the fact they don’t have to pay a “monthly fee” for it.

My point was that someone is going to get my money. I used to pay Blizzard a monthly fee, I now pay ArenaNet for gems, and if they don’t fix sPvP or make WvW, someone else is going to be next. I just want any devs who read this forum to know that my opinion is valuable because I’m a repeat paying customer.

Other than the story and franchise huttball is really the only thing I truly truly miss from SWtOR. Whomever designed that pvp mode was a genius and if only the rest of the game had been up to snuff it was e-sport material from the get go.

I applaud the OP’s bravery for comparing this game to WoW and agree with Sprawl regarding the state of the game at release relative to the competition. While GW2 may technically be better, the bottom line is that it’s less fun than current games on the market, specifically related to PvP. And yes, it is less fun than WoW, even with all of its flaws. It’s why PvP remains in such a dismal state in GW2… it’s not fun. It’s why 3 of the 4 of us that play together have left GW2 to go back to WoW. It’s not a good feeling for sure, but a few good battles and you’re over it. BTW, all 4 of us would pay a monthly fee for a better game. In the end, it’s not the money, is the fun factor. Even GW2 said this when they established ‘fun’ as their metric of success. I wonder how they’re feeling.

Both WoW and Warhammer are better than this game overall currently. But to be fair this game is new and DOES have an opportunity to get better. (Whereas neither of those really will).

They could start by abandoning the e-sport nonsense and implementing battlegrounds/scenarios of the traditional style…. I think before they do that they’ll have to fully have accepted sPvP/tPvP is a small niche though because they don’t want to ‘steal’ players from it…

I love so much about the spvp in GW2, especially how its a level playing field and you can play any class you want without having to pve, but the lack of game modes is a huge huge disappointment.

I just assumed there would be several modes-what sane person wouldn’t? Then I thought, well surely they will bring out more modes in the near future, but I haven’t seen any info to indicate that. The latest pvp blog from the devs that I read didn’t even mention new game modes. Totally weird in my opinion considering the great job they have done otherwise.

WoW pvp is boring as well because there isn’t much variety in their pvp game besides having what? more battlegrounds and modes? It’s still the same thing and less with classes combination having a dedicated healer, dps or sometimes a tank spec in WoW’s pvp. There aren’t any hybrid specs either in that game anymore unlike you can do in GW2.

In WoW you have to be max level in order to feel balance in pvp. World pvp isn’t fun in WoW if you’re playing a low level toon getting farm by high levels. As for pvp gear in WoW you have to farm pvp gear for almost 1 month or more to be fully pvp gear. I’m referring to WoW’s arena gear because causal pvp gear takes about 1 week or 2 to be fully gear depending how much time you spend pvping.

In GW2 you don’t have to worry about leveling to max level since you can enter a pvp zone and become max level with max level gear except in WvW you have to be in your low level gear since it plays as a pve zone as well.

So if you really want to compare the two between WoW and GW2 pvp. Then you know GW2 wins by a long shot. The only way GW2 pvp loses in the pvp competition is not enough game modes and certain specs are viable in pvp. That’s pretty much about it for GW2 pvp because everything else is great and not time consuming as WoW.

Sounds like Payload. Here’s a detailed explanation from a game that has mastered it:

I would never recommend copying ANYTHING from WoW, but great “e-sports” are another matter entirely. By your description, Cart sounds more like a poorly executed attempt at Payload that turned into a tug-of-war.

That being said, I miss PVP in WoW… battlegrounds are extremely fun, arenas are fun, and dueling is fun. In guild wars 2 there is no dueling, there are no arenas, spvps are boring and the only reason I still play is exploration, jumping puzzles and wvwvw.

I mostly miss being able to easily jump into a pvp with my casual friends, its the same reason i loved 2v2 so much was just easy for me and my friend to get quick games together without finding a whole team to wait to log in with. RBG were soo tedious to set up a match ahead of time then if one person doesn’t show spamming chat for ages to get someone.

I am really happy with the armour system they have in gw2 not having to grind pve is great. Or having your gear reset every season you can quickly just jump in and solo play without questioning if they beat me through skill or a large gear difference/rng.
