Why would you possibly need stability, teleport and blind to finish mesmer?
considering that when you down a mesmer and they pop that ability and that it’s always the clone that appears visible first, the removal of a red arrow isn’t exactly going to save your life when only the dumbest of players immediately try to stomp the clone.
Downed abilities don’t exactly help you, popping a clone and going invisible isn’t a lifesaver any more than an ele popping into mist form or a thief using blind powder and teleport, even in the midst of big heated group battles, there are still relatively few people who will even bother to help raise others. In 1v1 it’s absolutely useless, all you are doing is delaying the inevitable by seconds.

The execute animation is 3 seconds, genius. It takes 2 finishing attempts since the mesmer will interrupt your first one at the last second. Mesmer’s downed stealth is 2 seconds long, and even longer if traited. Tada, 8+ seconds.

What point exactly? How anything you mentioned will help you finish, say, thief? Or self-ressing engineers and rangers?

Big teamfight going on, guardian goes down, the guardian team has 3 seconds to ress him.

I think guardian is far more valuable to the team alive than mesmer. You can call it “balance”.

The point is that the mesmer’s downed state is unique and not stupid like the original post claims. Self-ressing engis still get executed by quickness finishers. Thieves get executed with a well-timed teleport finish. Etc.
The mesmer’s downed state negates everything and is almost guaranteed to interrupt anyone’s initial execution attempt. In this sense it is similar to the Ele’s downed state, although unlike mist form, the mesmer can be revived while using his downed state skills.

You’d think no one in this thread ever dealt with a mesmer before.
8+ seconds to stomp a mesmer is a crazy exaggeration, considering it is not much more difficult to stomp mesmers on the first try than any other class. In fact, I find Ele’s much more annoying to stomp than mesmers.
If one of your teammates starts a stomp on a mesmer, start your own stomp about 2 seconds after his. The mesmer will stealth to dodge his and reappear to get hit by yours. Don’t forget this is a team game.
Alternatively, you can lure the mesmer into using their stealth skill early by either DPSing them down first or canceling your first stomp and restarting it. (Either one requires some amount of luck/timing, but that is true with dealing with more than just a mesmer’s downed state.)

Yeah, that animation they get kinda sucks for them now.
Their downed state is the easiest one in the game to deal with, you get like 1.5 seconds to react to that Fear.

That ele downstate …. teleport finish.
If you down an ele in 1v1, then you’ve won anyway (unless thy run silly builds like me, where I do much much more downed damage then when I’m up).

Mesmer’s downed state actually can be secured if you deprive him of any targets.
It also sometimes negates itself due to random nature of teleport. You wouldn’t want to mess with mesmer when their downed teleport was ground-target like thief’s. That’s why they nerfed it.
Many times the mesmer won’t port far away.
So if you time your finish right before he does the skill.
You will finish him as soon as he’s visible again.

Even if you can’t do the fake-out stomp on a mesmer, it’s not that hard to tell which is which by dpsing it and see whether it’s health depltion is high or low. If it it loses a lot of health compared to what you normally see, it’s a fake go for the other one. If it dies, even better.
