Blaming the girl
Ignore griefers? No. You do not need or have to ignore anyone. You report them for verbal abuse. Those are sexist remarks that you do not have to tolerate.

Sorry to hear that, a lot of gamer’s aren’t very good with girls, which leads to bitterness, followed by vitriol against them. Unfortunately, they don’t understand it makes the problem worse. It kind of leads to the stereotype that male gamers are immature and can’t get girls.
I have never been in your shoes (not a girl), but I can imagine it sucks. Do report people when they flame you, and try not to let it get in the way of having fun. People gonna rage and blame everyone else regardless. Hopefully unranked queue will let you join games casually with friends who won’t give you crap.
At least being called a “kitten” isn’t such a bad thing. How could it ever be worthless, its already so darn cute…:)
Yea…well, welcome to a day in the life of a female gamer. You just got a taste of the misogynistic culture that’s so prevalent because women are so often seen as objects, rather than people.
-sigh- Rude hotheads like that are an embarrassment to us men.
While it can be nice to get into a shouting match with them, I usually find it’s not worth my time to argue with them. I’d just block them, and /report if you feel the insults were bad enough.
^ His original post states outright that he’s a guy.
Trolls on the internet troll someone, they fall for it, and it causes them to get mad.

Thanks for the replies… perhaps I didn’t express myself properly: playing a female character and kitten horried of the language/attitude towards when they seeminly think it is a female IRL
I’m very much male. My female game ranger just happens to be named as if a real person. And I’ve had a share of dorky guys whispering to me.. the last one turned the cup.
Lessons for me is to.. kitten love them pretty women really, all of them… and to protect them from idiots like sans mentioned.
Girl = guy in real life.

I assure you that this has nothing to do with you playing a female character. The PvP community in this game is toxic, moreso than any other MMO on the market.
It only takes two clicks to block someone. Give it a try! After a while, every pvp match is dead silent.

Idk about that. Sure, it gets pretty toxic at times, but that’s nothing compared to some of the things I’ve heard my brother screaming over Call of Duty, or even just Minecraft with his friends. xD
The thing is that you shouldn’t take anything guys say personally. They probably don’t mean to hurt your feelings, they’re just venting. Even if it sounds horrible, they’ll get over it pretty quickly usually. After all, it’s just a game. :P
Yeah, if I’m going off my personal experiences, the GW2 PvP scene is actually pretty tame/polite compared to some other games I’ve played.

With all due respect, if the lesson you learned was to “protect” the “pretty” girls, then I think you’re still very much in need of learning and maybe need to take a break from movies/games that revolve around the ‘save the princess’ trope.

“anything guys say personally”
“don’t mean to hurt your feelings”
“they’ll get over it pretty quickly”
So out-of-words… but I kinda uderstand. In your little world everything happens to “them”.
There are no actual victims none, ever… “theyre just venting”.
Sorry to open a Pandora’s box even I can’t describe..
“equal rights” Currently GW2 has no law, until such law is past I approve of blaming the girl.

Gah. lets let this thread die. Its just a breeding ground for trouble. Some people will say I just want to avoid the issue. But I mostly want to avoid the people these kind of posts attract. While I definitely don’t agree with what happened to the OP and feel the perpetrators should be ashamed of themselves. At the same time ive had worse things said and thrown at me in this game and im male.
Im sorry this happened to you. But at the same time the same thing happens to kitten near everyone in pvp. Male or Female. Unless you advertised you were a woman I doubt it was actually because your female. Its far more likely they just used generic insults at you which admittedly can be easily misunderstood as a targeted response.
If you did advertise your gender (which you would need to for anyone to believe you were female without chatting you for awhile since guys automatically assume any female avatar they see is actually a male for safety reasons and to avoid embarrassing situations.) you should be aware that there ARE kittens in the internet that will say things they don’t even mean to get a response out of you. This goes for men and women. Ive been exposed to both genders of kittenbags and have no respect for them.
These people RARELY mean anything they say. They say it for hte sole purpose of getting a response out of you. And in making this post you gave them EXACTLY what they wanted. Further reinforcing whatever mental image they have of you. They would do the same exact thing if you were male and responded in a similar fashion.
Next time. block them, Report them, And move on with your life. This is the internet. They are completely incapable of contacting you if you don’t allow it. And once you block them you stop whatever joy them get out of it. Making posts like this just encourages the behavior in others because they see there is SOMEONE in the game world who will fall for it.
Really most dudes play female toons and none are reporting the same thing. I think your nuts or really bad.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Sorry, I can’t believe this. I am a girl, and all my characters are female. I’ve played 2000+ PvP games and NEVER ever have heard something like this.
I have played many games also using Teamspeak with friends or random people and never been treated disrespectfully.
You can blame the PvP community for many things, but not to be sexist.
If this was XBL I’d actually think this was more of a factor. Although misogyny clearly exists on PC, (ppl will always h8) I do find us as a community to be a little bit more pleasant when it comes to gender bias. (we focus on other things to poke fun at… like the peasants! lol jk)
THAT BEING SAID! Gender matters little to serious players in proper format of competitive play. If a player is bad or lets the team down on a regular basis (since anyone can make a mistake) to the point where you are a CLEAR hindrance people will always be aggressive unless you are with tolerant players who will let you learn at ones own pace.
I can definitely see the perspective of players getting mad in team queue. But if it is prominent in solo queue and hotjoin for anyone they likely do need to try to improve but in those formats I don’t think people should get as mad lol.
Also lets not forget rule 30 and it’s amendment/re-uptake 31 ;D (jk)

So wait…you’re a dude!?
I’m confused aswell.
I don’t tolerate dudes that playing female characters more then i don’t tolerate girls that are playing.
To OP. Poor girl…
Since over 90% of my toons are female, this happens all the time. Adolescents are……adolescent.
The C word is even used from time to time by these adolescents.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Just shrug it off, people insult others far too easily when there’re little to no consequences. If it turns into harassment, report them.
I’d personally take the raging/hating over some well-intended flirting any day, less awkward and much easier to ignore or even block.
There is some general (moderate) douchbaggery going on in PvP, but only sexism I’ve experienced in 2.5 years in GW2 is when people assume I’m a different gender based on GW2 being a video game. Which I then correct and somebody learns something. Shrugs. Honestly, the GW2 community is pretty great.

Depends on where you live tbh… it might just be “normal” smack talk.

So what it looks like is, you’re a guy, you play a female character, people think you’re a girl, they get salty, they berate you with slurs against women and thus you get salty.
I play a couple female characters and yet I havnt received sexist slurs. Looks like you’ve been a magnet to the frequent grade A permavirgins that dwell on mmos.
