Class swap gives no win...
I’m not sure yet but I think swapping class and winning the game gives no win but it does give a loss if you lose. Is this intended? I switch class when I solo/duo/ trio Q if there’s already a thief just to get a better team comp but it doesn’t count on the leaderboard.
I usually don’t look at the leaderboards because I know its just who plays the most games but I still don’t wanna only accumulate loses because of the bugged system.
Yes. Leaving the game for any reason, including swapping professions, marks you as a deserter and gives you a full loss. A full loss is the same as if your team ended the game with a score of 0.
If dishonor was enabled, you would be getting dishonor for leaving as well.

Quick question, why is dishonor not enabled yet?

Why does it even let them rejoin the match if they are already dishonored and treated as a deserter? Letting them rejoin the match simply creates a stacked class scenario and hurts everyone else playing the match.

There is a bug that could cause dishonor to be awarded multiple times for the same infraction. I have already fixed the bug internally, but it hasn’t made it to our live servers yet.

It lets them rejoin so MAYBE their team can still win and he doesn’t F over everyone else. Dishonor was enabled, it was disabled to be fixed. They found bugs with and are fixing.

So let me get this straight.
If your broken matchmaking system gives us a team with 5 rangers and 4 of us swap to a preferable comp and win, we get no reward because we didn’t play it the way your matchmaking wanted us to play it?
I swear to god, it seems like Anet wants this game to fail. You’re doing a great job, boiz, keep it up!

There are two sides to every story. The reason they don’t want you swapping is because they don’t want people to see what the other team is running and then switch to a comp that totally neutalises it. Yes what you are saying is somtimes a problem but I agree with there line of thinking.

Then you shouldn’t allow Tournaments to fix their comps and specs while waiting to Ready Up. If your Ranked is the best you’re going to offer – then it needs to be like the Tournaments.

Because it was the worst system ever.
1 sec DC = 30 min penalty.
Edit: OP you said you dont care about the leaderboards but still try hard and swap class just to win the game ? lol
I don’t ‘’try hard’‘… More than 1 thief is just bad . And yes I don’t care about the leaderboards but I care about winning the game.
just more reason to stop supporting the game spvp wise.

apologies if this was already asked, but do you get this penalty if you swap while in queue? while “waiting for players to join” while in the actual map? or just after the 15:00 timer starts?
^ Yes, this is scaring me. You’re allowed to switch during the 1:30 minute window before a match starts right?!

No, you get the complete penalization (deserter, loss and 0 points, and dishonor if enabled)

I’m on the forums, so idk if this is sarcastic or not, but if not, that is literally the dumbest thing ever.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Its true.
The new system now has “Profession-based” MMR. So when you enter the queue, the system starts searching for a match based on your current profession’s MMR. If you change professions during the queue, then you’re circumventing the selection process. Hence, the penalty.
So you need to leave the queue, change profession and re-enter the queue.
To make it more full proof, ANet should have it automatically dump you from the queue if you switch characters.
what about hte fact that when you leave queue you are still actually in queue?
do you get penalty for the bug?

No, you will not get a penalty until the match is created and you have confirmed, and then only if you fail to enter the new instance or leave it.

This is the part of the reasoning behind locking profession. The other is to avoid Build Wars 2 and lower the amount secret knowledge that only experienced players know.

You will automatically leave the queue if you leave your character to switch professions. However, due to a bug, that isn’t working at the moment. A fix is incoming.

Also what if I dced during the match or lagged so I logout and log back in immediately without switching char.

Indeed ‘…’. @Justin the best way to avoid ‘build wars’ would be to hide display whos in enemy team before it starts, so you could just adjust your own setup by picking synergies in your team and counter class stacking. If you hide whos in enemy team, people won’t be able to pick ‘counters’ and ‘build wars’ won’t happen.

First, GW1 was all about designing builds and maximizing team synergy. Now I know this isn’t GW1, but teams SHOULD be considering how they’re going to work together. Why is build consideration a bad thing? Why would you want to even the playing field artificially? Your matchmaking should be doing that automatically. And besides, the best way for a noob to learn about “secrets” (serious, wtf does this even mean?) is to play against players who use them so they aren’t secret anymore.
But if you’re insistent on stopping pre-match countering, even if for this bizzaro reason, what Morwath said is the best bet. Don’t let players leave the starting area and don’t display the enemy team comp. Let individual parties see what classes their teammates brought and let them class switch to synergize with their own team. If you’re worried this will lead to some professions being less played, then balance the game.

Can you please make it so if you get a client dc but join the match again before it starts on the same character there is no penalty. i have had issues with dc’ing and getting back in with 10secs before match start (same character) but i believe i am still losing points.

You should think about the grace period for DCs once again. Reconnect with the same char and rejoin the fight should not be a loss.
Is there going to be a forgiveness period if you D/C but reconnect without say, three minutes? Internet connection is never infallible.

Building a comp with great team synergy is very much at the core of GW2 tPvP and continues to be so. This change targets a different thing, namely it discourages counter comping, which is a crutch for mediocrity.

PLEASE sort out, when you queue, then leave for IRL reasons before the queue pop, only to find 2 mins later when you are in wvw or on the toilet, the queue pops.

Sadly no
A full loss is the same as if your team ended the game with a score of 0.
- How is this “full loss” different from just losing the match? The matchmaking seems pretty weird to me. I’ve played 15 ranked games with same character and only won 4 of them. Shouldn’t the system balance teams so that every player’s win rate would approach 50%?
Justin is chill but this is a perfect example of how terrible the management is within the company. The pvp team tries to prevent class stacking while taking away the players ability to class swap while the pve team creates a daily to attract pve players to class stack. The upper management’s response has been pretty obvious that they don’t care or it would have been disabled or fixed by day two. At least that is the impression I got.
I really like this idea, passing it along to the team.
Isn’t it important for pre-game strategizing to see your enemies team composition? I feel like preventing class switching is actually the better solution. However, I didn’t even know that this was a penalty so I think the game should at a minimum warn you if you attempt to log out/switch characters while in a match that you will get penalized for it.
1. Remove PvP class dailies (or remake them)
2. Increase queue times to avoid class stacked teams
3. Receive endless praise from the community

Just a note, hiding them on the scoreboard is not enough. You have to lock people to the spawn zone so they can’t go to the enemy base to check out their comp that way.

Agreed. No more class switching to counter a team. This isn’t allowed in tournaments. It shouldn’t be allowed in tpvp.

This would just result in players running to the other side before the match starts to see the other team’s composition. Even if you find a way to prevent that, there are other workarounds. It would also discourage having a character name that’s relevant to your class.
It’s also nice to see team compositions before the match because it can alter strategies (e.g. The enemy team has a thief, don’t attack Svanir).

No, you only get -3 if your team loses or you exceed the grace period, which is certainly longer than 1 second.

Yes. Leaving the game for any reason, including swapping professions, marks you as a deserter and gives you a full loss. A full loss is the same as if your team ended the game with a score of 0.
If dishonor was enabled, you would be getting dishonor for leaving as well.
I need this bit clarified a bit even if just for my own ignorance b/c of:
To prevent exploits, all members of the same party as the deserter would also receive a desertion result, but will not receive dishonor unless they leave early as well.
Does that mean if someone swaps professions the whole team gets punished? If so, when exactly does this take effect (once team is on map prior to match, or during the match)? I am mainly asking to know if a party member swaps at the start of the match is it already lost before it has even begun?
Edit: Btw Justin I skimmed through your replies…I am amazed by your feedback…it’s refreshing (seriously)

I believe I was talking about a theoretical, currently party members do not get desertion if someone in their party leaves.
If we allowed profession swapping, we would not mark the entire party as deserters if it happened without the bounds we allowed.
If we do not allow profession swapping (which is the case now), then yes, the entire party (note: not team) would be marked as deserters.

Is this some kind of joke? Every day, especially during the European evening hours people get lag spikes and disconnects multiple times an hour and now you’re saying they will get punished for client and serverside errors?

I think there needs to be a few little changes to make this work nicely:
- Before 1:30 window is up: Hide enemy comp, allow switching professions
- After the 1:30 window is up: Allow the enemy comp to be displayed
- After the 1:30 window is up: Present a warning alert after clicking the change character dialog (“Warning: You will be removed from the match and it will count as a loss” Cancel/Ok). If the user continues to change, remove from the match and count as a loss as well as updating the user on the dishonor system as it currently stands.

I’m trying to think of a constructive way to say this but I just can’t. Sorry. This is just stupid. I frequently get kicked out to the login screen with a cute little error message when I load into maps from the lobby and it’s no big deal, I’m back in the game long before the match starts. Most of the time anyway. But I sure as hell don’t want to be punished for whatever brief server hiccup is occurring on your end.
Class stacking? What class stacking.
