With rank points boosted 3x and 5x for Solo and Team arena wins, will we get compensated for our already won matches?
You know, good old GW1 style:

Players who already had acquired Gladiator points before the update on September 27, 2007, had their total number of points multiplied by 6 to compensate for the difficulty and raised tiers.
Players who already had acquired Gladiator points before the update on June 2, 2011, had their total number of points multiplied by 8 to compensate for the difficulty and raised tiers.

so it can actually be FAIR for anyone who invested tons of hours into rated play already?

Quick solution: Like with WvW XP and Levels, Anet give out additional rank points (through the chests) for every Solo/Team Arena Win so far (it’s being tracked in both PvP stats and in the leaderboards).
For example you have 100 Solo Wins at the moment. Thus you should be compensated with additional 300 rank points for each of your 100 wins. That will be 30 000 rank points to get you on pair with the changes. Same thing for Team arena – 800 additional rank points for every win you had prior the change.

But I’m sure they have overlooked this, as they always tend to do with PvP design decisions…

What they should do is:

-For SoloQ wins: add 300×3 = 900 – 300 = 600 RP for each win

That is if they want to make the previous wins on par with the incoming wins.

Also i don’t think it will be to hard to know how many of those reward chest boxes have been opened or not ?

They could give those that have already opened their tPvP reward chests the same ammount of chests that only contains the chance to recieve the “luck items”.

Doing these two things will make the incoming changes truly balanced.

This makes me wonder… The ammount of RP for each win they want to give is way to high… x2 and x3 would be better. It seems as if they do not want to make the rank grind easier but try to attract players with it which is a bad way to attract players…

Give reasonable ammounts of gold compared to casual PvE(like 2-3G/h instead of 1…), adress balance issue the right way(adding new skills is fine, but adressing existing skills is more important), give us decent, permanent rewards(finishers will soon be useless) and implement decent tutorials for new players will attract much more new players then increased RP gains…

Yep give people has tpvp chest wins give rank points when open them, For all the time who ppl spent on Spvp and hasnt been exploiting Skyhammer farm and exploiting glory bug get something

RIGHT NOW the new rewards = Only happy exploiters

I know they said they won’t give us gold for the games we’ve won which is just w/e, but I would love to be rewarded for all those tournament wins with rank. Like you said this would put legit players back above skyhammer rank farmers since I really don’t think they have any intention of rolling them back.

You got it a bit wrong there. Or maybe I confused you, because I didn’t explain the math. So, here we go:

Before Solo Arena (SA) awarded 150 Rank Points (RP) for a win. Now it’s tripe – 150×3 = 450RP per SA win at the moment. To be fair with anyone, who have won SA before, they have to give out additional 300RP for each win before the change. Because: 450 – 150(the already earned amount) = 300.

To put it your way for Team Arena:
200(old reward)x5 = 1000 – 200 = 800RP per win.

To sum it up – we need 300RP bonus for each of our SoloArena wins before the change and 800RP bonus for each of our TeamArena wins. Because that’s whats fair to the loyal playerbase, that’s how they should be treated and as pointed out – it will separate the farmers from ranked players.

U made that in GW1 twice (sweet suprise when u log in and ur higher ahh ) so why not here? In GW1 it wasn’t a problem so why it should be here?
This is fair Anet, simply. It’s fair reward for ppl who sticked to pvp from the begining. Since u won’t give gold for that wins (should give even this 20s !!!!! ) to be fair with everyboy U SHOULD rewad prev wins. Again, in GW1 it worked, it was COOL N FAIR, why not here?

I completely agree with you guys on this. At the moment, they’re creating a better situation for all PvP’ers out there and are trying to reward us better, I get that. What I don’t get is why aren’t we, the loyal pvpers that sticked for like 1 year in a broken system, being rewarded for our loyalty and most of all our TIME! The time I invested is bluntly undermined by these changes and literally 66% of it is wasted. Dev post would be cool.

One the one hand, ANet is probably right when saying, that rewarding pvp players for already earned ranks etc (with gold) would collapse the market.

However, couldn’t they just handle this like the WvW Chests?
I am not that into wvw, but as far as I know, once there was a rework and everbody just got twice the usual amount of rewards (I think, it was about chests), until he reaches the total amount he would have when this system would have been there in the first place.

Considering how much time it takes to rank up in PvP comapred to WvW this would not work.
I don’t need the gold rewards for previous wins, but we really should get the ranking points. There’s no downside in everybody who played tournaments getting boosted a few ranks.

On the stream yesterday they said that retroactive rewarding GOLD will shock the game’s economy and they don’t want that. But in this thread we ain’t talking about gold.

We just want a fair treatment according our RANK points from our previous rated matches, considering the recent changes in rank gain…

But again, the devs are completely ignoring the thread… while in the mean time answering the same old questions with their “soon” posts…

Yeah this is a nice idea it will really seperate the pvpers from skyhammer farmers and it will end 1 of the biggest problem on the skyhammer exploit. And give legit player the rank they deserve. Not on par with farmer who got the title earlier than those rank players are. pls reply dev. Ü

Real problem is that farming already existed way before skyhammer, clik just to mention one did his rank just spamming grenades on hotjoin zergs without going tpvp (Also sh farmers “won” a great amount of hj games while farming)…so they would have to rollback those too i suppose…and this is not gonna happen…just forget it..pretty much every single r60 before sh did it farming hj, not jumping into a hole but the basics were the same..spam random aoes and profit…

Exactly what i said…many high ranked did their rank going hotjoin ONLY (Well also went up in leaderboard being carried at nigh in some matches and never playing again before decay system) and anet doesn’t want to hurt those..

I dunno how many of you are in pvp from start but trust me rank farming had always been up since release, it only became more evident with skyhammer but had always been there and always will (Spamming wells or grenades on zerg was not so much different from jumping to death, only slower)…that’s why they should totally remove rank points from hj/arenas and give them to tpvp/soloq winners only…or farmers will always find a way to farm no matter what

Logged in just to say i do fully support this idea and it also happened to me in gw1 with gladiator rank.
It would be fair to reward as well the loyal and previous playerbase for their wins rather than the newcomers.

This wouldnt add way much rank anyways, but would be welcome.

8v8 hotjoin has always given significantly more rank points than tPvP. Too many people feel high ranks mean nothing because of Skyhammer farming and zerging. Making this retroactive would fix this long-term imbalance and make ranks more valued by everyone, not less.

If we’re keeping ranks long-term then I truly believe this is a necessary change. And I say this as someone who’s r34 and wouldn’t even make it to r40 with this change, so while I would benefit, others would (deservedly) benefit much more than myself.

I’d really like this to at least be discussed, and if it’s not implemented I would like a good reason why not. I honestly don’t see a real downside to retroactive rewards like this(Gold would have had a huge downside), but maybe there are some that I haven’t seen and that’s why I would like it to be discussed with dev responses.

There are no downstates, only +. It happend sucessfully in GW1 twice, and I was a part ot that. They should do it.

This has no way to have a bad effect on the game in any way what so ever. Compensating loyal and active players with points that do NOT impact the game in ANY way except for bestowing bragging rights can only have a positive effect. Don’t get me even started on how much it would do towards fixing the damage caused by skyhammer farming. Let’s look at it this way. I have around 1,5k tournies played and my current LEGIT rank is 43. The other day, I decided to go FotM to have a lil’ fun with the new stuff and all and at 1 point I wanted to brag somewhat with my tiger. I did /rank (the only thing you can do to brag) and got faceslapped by a PvE’er that pulled a bear on my kitten . I pressumed he was a sPvPer too, a legit one and so I asked him. He said and I quote: “Nah, I just did the sh farm for a month or so, wanted the bear for giggles”. I just stood there for a minute or two, mindblown at how my effort and loyalty meant absolutely nothing and not only that but it actually made me look silly.

I thought about it and 1 million gold entering the economy is probably a slow tuesday PVE champ farm… .. So why not give Tournament Players something for all that time since you removed gems? 20 Silver Per Tournment que won. = 600~ gold maximum over 1200 hours of game time.

Sure gem prices might spike, but that’s good for you right? :/
