Cost of Traits and Amulets Confirmed
10g… why is there even a cost? don’t get it
13×10g for all amulets and this is only for amulets, sigils?

10g… why is there even a cost? don’t get it
Their reasoning:
“We don’t want to overwhelm players with too many traits and amulets, so we put a cost barrier behind it”
um…OK?
Given that most of the traits are worthless, w/e.
10g… why is there even a cost? don’t get it
13×10g for all amulets and this is only for amulets, sigils?
Because we are earning gold in sPvP, and as such sPvP also needs things that takes away gold.

How much gold do you think you earn in pvp?
shouldn’t we get gold and buy some pve skins?
I wonder how some of those meetings go when they decide to implement these things.
I hope the ammy part isn’t correct… traits, ok, but having to pay for amulets? They just straight went crazy.

Why? Don’t you think that gold was meant to be given so that should we ever want to venture into PvE we actually have -some- money?
They take away the only PvP currency and now we have to pay with gold? How is this creating a level playing field in PvP any more? I have 12 character slots that I PvP with, I am in no way going to spend 120g if I want them to have new ammys, that’s absurd.

Pretty sure the costs are only for the new ones. Traits and amulets that are already in spvp are still unlocked.
10g for an amulet?
That’s about 1 hour of karka farming selling everything and have a group of about 10 people or about 7-9 dungeon runs. . . Or about 66 games or about 16.6 hours in Spvp provided you earn about 15 silver per game which was what I made on average with no queue times. I guess if I want to play Spvp I won’t be able to afford different amulets if I command in WvW. I lost allot of gold per hour when I commanded and couldn’t afford any more siege or upgrades.
It makes me not want to play alts at all in Spvp because the amulets are character bound last I checked, and grinding for the new and most likely unbalanced traits and amulets will take many more hours to be competitive on Alts. Playing different professions and builds kept me interested in playing the game. I guess I’ll have to do allot of theory crafting on Excel and use one build with each alt when I start playing regularly again.
Guild Wars 2 needs a Public Beta Environment
Wow, this is really, really terrible to see. Coming from WoW, as most of my friends that play GW2 with me, we all LOVED that spvp had absolutely zero grind or gear differences. It was purely for skill, and the prestige of looking cooler as you obtained skins.
I actually have two friends that just recently picked it up for the sale, and mostly just spvp as well. For those new players going from being able to test any class, any play style right off the bat to needing to amass and then dedicate and extremely sizable chunk of gold is quite disheartening. I mean sure, we earn some gold (not sure if we’ll earn more post patch?) but this amulet change seems quite unnecessary and wont do much but turn people off of spvp in general.
Their official stance is that this is a form of horizontal progression and does not give players any meaningful advantage over other players.
I disagree, but what do I know.

That’s what they were saying about the traits but I didn’t even know about them charging for amulets until now. Why remove the only PvP native currency and then make us have to pay gold instead?
In the video they said that it is an ACCOUNT unlock not character. so 10g seems reasonable to me.
Edit: and it’s just the new ones added, old ones will remain unlocked for everyone.
How many new amulets are they introducing? You’re just hurting the people who have multiple characters of the same profession.
Separately, what is the position of the company on character slot refunds?
Not sure why everyone is surprised with the way they implemented the healing skills. I’ll be the first to let you know it only gets worse from here
I thought it was account bound

You only had to spend SPs for this, not gold. Also, it unlocked that skill on both PvE and PvP, this has no relation to 10g for amulets.
Hey guys, don’t forget, runes and sigils also cost 3-5g each
But hey, from recently spending ~ 70k glory and 140 tournament chests to craft dyes, I got ~60 gold out of it, so the costs for those are like nothing!*

Why do we have to pay for things that was free before

^ New players were confused…try saying that with a straight face. They’re trying to monetize pvp, but they’re going about it all wrong. When you have a client base telling you what they would pay for, you should just listen.

So we aren’t overwhelmed by these major changes.
How much gold do you think you earn in pvp?
loads! remember we get a couple of mobs worth of loot for afew hours of work!
^ haha Anyone who plays a good amount of time has probably only made ~200 gold from pvp since they released coin as a reward.

This, in an official statement they pretty much implied we’re all too stupid to work out a build if we’re given the same options that are available in PvE, it’ll just break our fragile little minds. Phew, thanks Anet.

Yeah dude, we be rollin’ in that G-money!
I have played a few thousand hours (98% in PvP) and I bet I’ve made a total of 120g.
ANet would have you think that the playerbase can’t even tie their own shoes.
Hahahahahahahhahahah
They are adding gold cost to SPvP amulets?
That’s a terrible idea.
That means the million~ PvP’ers that left, the players that didn’t have much gold because PvP never gave gold… those guys are going to have even less will to come back, I mean since GW2 is a game largely won or lost by playing the right top-tier/cheese specs…
Holy kitten.
Sure more unlocks is more incentive to keep playing the game, it’s almost a decent idea.. but turning next to everything into an unlock just discourages people from coming back….
(edited by garethh.3518)
I think a lot of people do not know/are forgetting that unlocking an amulet etc. is account wide not per character.

What’s your point?
A gold sink is a gold sink, especially in a game-mode where everyone is supposed to be on an even playing field.
Hahahahahahahhahahah
They are adding gold cost to SPvP amulets?
Only the new ones and its accoutn bound..it isnt that big of a deal. Unlocking traits its even worse although for pvp the “core” is unlocked
Hahahahahahahhahahah
So… let me get this straight… they are trying to get the millions of PvP’ers that left to come back, the players that didn’t have much gold because PvP never gave gold… they are trying to appease those guys by cutting out the vast majority of specs they can play in a game largely won or lost by playing the right top tier specs…
Holy kitten.
Who said they are trying to get old pvpers back. Pve players make up the bulk of this game

People who made a lot of alts didn’t easily have access to this. You might not think sp aren’t the same as gold but they can be used to craft items that you can sell for gold
If the grind is too much it will more than likely push me away. Especially if they can’t better fix 4v5 and poor matchmaking for better gameplay, balance aside.

If gold drops as frequently as the SP scrolls did (I have a full stack of those things and 12 character), then I won’t complain. Sadly, it does not.
who makes these decisions? I cant tell if its the greediest hand rubbing executive we’ve ever seen or a monkey from the zoo
maybe somebody from anet can tell me what the inside of a bumhole smells like when they come out of their natural habitat to infract me
Keep in mind that once you unlock an amulet that it is account bound in sPvP. They are only charging the 10 gold to unlock the new amulet stats, from what I recall there are only 2 new amulet sets which is Cavalier and Magi (there maybe more) and they plan on introducing more stat combinations eventually…
For the Runes and Sigils, I don’t recall how much gold it is to unlock the ability to use them… but they are only introducing Runes of Travelers into sPvP (from what I recall since they scrapped Perplexity Runes)
Sigils, I think there are probably about 2 of them at the Live Stream I watched (Renewal and Generosity)
And traits with skill points…
Stop complaining guys you have so much gold from spvp matches right now you couldn’t spend it all!!!
Oh wait….
Dear god I hope this isn’t true.
If this is true then as soon as one of these amulets is required for the optimum build for a class (much like with the new traits) then anyone new to the game does not have access to the best build and has to grind to get access to it. This is exactly the vertical progression that GW2 was meant to be avoiding and yet another barrier to entry in PvP.
lol you guys are embarrassingly cheap. 10 gold is so easy to come by these days, and only the new ones cost 10 gold, not all of them. people here are losing there minds screaming PAY TO WIN because of some silly trait and amulet costs. The traits are 3 gold…3 GOLDDDD, THREE, NUMBER 3. It takes like 10 minutes to make that much gold in this game.
^ Sure it does…Stream for me the 10 minutes of time you spend in spvp that makes you 3 gold. Also, the traits are gold plus skill points. I eagerly await that 10minute clip of you making 3 gold in spvp

You obviously don’t play PvP very often.
@skylight How is it easy for a pvp’er?
I agree that it’ll be easier as we’re getting new gold influx. But while there has been an increasingly amount of gold income on the pve-side (since release) there has been 0 gold income on the pvp-side (except the wintersday and the recent gold reward for matches).
But overall, I don’t really mind.

Fixed that for you
I wonder how some of those meetings go when they decide to implement these things.
It goes like this;
Dev 1: “We have to find a way to make rewards in PvP more meaningful”
Dev 2: “Gold.”
Everyone in the boardroom says unanimously: “Excellent idea Dev 2!”
Dev 3: “But if we’re allowing Gold into the economy through PvP, we have to have a way to send it out.”
Dev 2: “Gold sinks in the form of traits, skills and gear as we release them!”
Everyone in the boardroom says unanimously: “Excellent idea Dev 2!”
Dev 3: “But considering the rate at which we’ll be doling out these new traits and skills, don’t we need something else that players can spend gold on?”
Dev 2: “We’ll just make each set even MORE expensive because everything new that comes out HAS to be a grandmaster trait with no context or relation to how powerful the trait is whatsoever. And also, none of it is account bound because who cares if you have 3 Rangers pff… who plays 3 Rangers anwyay….”

Well, yet another blow to the PvP scene.
I had hopes that Anet had understood.
My hopes were of no avail, yet again, just like in beta when they spoke so highly of Gw2 eSport, now they show it once again, one year later, that they have no clue about PvP.
Good job anet, you just lost a hardcore PvPr here.

Stop writing kitten.
There’s no way, ANet has 3 Devs for PvP.
IF they truly are accountbound, then I don’t see the big fuss.
It’s a relatively small amount to spend for something being unlocked FOREVER.
Yes, PvP in the past did not reward anywhere near the amount of gold/SP that other forms of the game did, but that is hopefully going to change.
The only people truly with a stake here are those who are new to the game, as they will have little money/hardly any SP to spend on these new traits and amulets. Some may say, “well, they should focus on the core of the game first”, and they wouldn’t be wrong, but I think any kind of system that limits build diversity, no matter how small, isn’t the correct approach.
tl;dr: It’s not that expensive for people who actively play, but for new players it’s going to suck a bit.
My situation: I don’t have gold, so when I go into PvP now I will be met by players who have spent gold gaining access to in-game equipment which I don’t have, meaning I am at a disadvantage in terms of access to in-game equipment, meaning the other player is at an advantage.
This is the same kittened balance that League of Lesbians have, and it’s the opposite of competitive balance which is balanced around EQUALITY, there is no equality if people have to purchase equipment in PvP, just like there is no equality in LoL because people have to unlock access to in-game equipment.
Gw2 PvP is now no longer about skills, but who has spent more money to gain the things you(or I for that matter) do not have.
GG.
