THE DAY HAS COME.
THANK YOU KARL.
NOT SO FAST
it still needs to be translated
You people should calm down. There was no announcement and nobody thought CA’s would be in today’s patch. I really don’t think the CA-Kits are final and therefore neither are their tooltips. Just calm down und wait until today’s patchnotes, an announcement or a clarification byone of them devs.
So much for custom arenas…or communication.
I really hope we get an announcement on this, see if the intentions behind this are as rotten as they seem.
Those better come with A/C and a mini bar.
OMG, LooooooooL MMO developers around the world must be laughing their kitten off.
i think they blocked the tooltip by now. so it was probably an error
Guys, This is the time when all of us here we should expose our rejection of such high prices.
And here I was thinking that 200 gems seems really reasonable for a month. If they actually implement it to be 200/day, then gl finding anyone actually wanting to rent those servers.
Maybe it’s active time, not subscription-style time.
Seems p daft still.
WHAT DA kitten?
I thought a month for 200 gems, 1 week if Anet felt greedy. But 1 day is BS!! Super expensive! Guess the only time to rent servers is when you organise championships or something.
Gandara – WvW Warrior
Expensive !!!!!!!
QUIT- RETIRED
I have no problem paying for a custom server. They have to support the game somehow.
However I think 200 gems for 1 week would be way more appropriate than 1 day. That must be incorrect.
Dont worry if you dont want to pay for it. Dont then. It is your choice. Some people will pay for it. I will defo get a custom server for example. So there will be custom servers out there.

200 a day must be a mistake. They aren’t that stupid surely. They would make more $$ with 200 a week imo.

200/day has to be a mistake…
200/week seems OKish.
Sela Nox – Mesmer
Medania – Thief
200/week + way to make gems from pvp = reasonable chance to build population and maintain it.
200/day = video game suicide

I personally would like to see a one off purchase, like a character slot. 200 for a month is ok, any less is not. I assume there will be free versions and rentable versions with additional flexibility options. For 800 gems I want to own the kitten thing.
Just to add, it’s not like Anet are struggling with server space. There’s like 300 empty ones at any given time, so………

To me 200 a week seems reasonable. In fact it sounds like a good deal. I would even say 400 a week would be better for them. I would pay 400 a week easily. 200 a day though. hmmm, that just seems a little too much. In fact I would pay 100 a day for sure. Thats just me. If even I am thinking 200 a day is too much then they wont sell many. I have no problems spending money in this game.

They could do something like: 15.000 glory = 1 week
Also everyone is assuming 1 player has to pay everything. If playing competively 10 people will be using this CA, so i guess price/10

If they did this nobody would pay money. I have 400k glory with nothing to spend it on and others must be the same!

Yeay. I will be finally able to spend 10k of my gems. Goodie, goodie
And 200 gems per day that’s like what 4 gold per day? That’s like nothing. Stop QQing that much kitten /p>
Pvp players dont have gold yo
Yea we do. Well at least I do
You can clearly tell that the icon used for the custom arena token is a place holder; so I am pretty sure they are going to update the price and make some fixes once the patch goes live, so don’t panic!
Regardless if CA’s make it into this patch or not, its at least good to see that they are working on them.
Xeph.
Yea we do. Well at least I do
Then you’re not a 100% pvp player. Or you crafted dyes and got lucky.
Competitive sPvP players do not have gold to convert to gems, regardless of the dyes that can be sold, at a pittance mind you.
I assume there will be some sort of way to either make gems, or restrict the amount of servers available. There can’t be hundreds of custom servers going at once, the population is simply too small for that and half would be empty or unused.
Guys. They wont change the price, it’s not a mistake.
Come back to earth, stop dreaming. If they put one price they keep this price. They didnt make any mistake. They didnt invent a fake description for the sake of it.
200 gems a day. That’s all.
Charging for Custom Arenas is the best thing that could happen for GW2 PvP, since if they finally earn some money with it, maybe we will get more resources for PvP.
I’m fine with this costing money, quite honestly. You can now effectively scrim, practice, et cetera, without interruption or trying to “que” up together.
I would like an option, however, to be able to rent the server for a month at a time.
I’ll reserve judgement on this until I see the implementation.
Here’s the thing though… since it was there we know they are addressing it, and at least progress is being made in some regard.
The bottom line is this feature needs to get in ASAP. A-net generates revenue from the PvP community and they will actually use some resources to improve sPvP. RIght now sPvP is on a ramen noodle budget, because they can’t make any money off of it. Give them money and they will give you service, shockingly similar to the worlds’ oldest profession.
Even so 200 gems a day is shockingly expensive for PvP players if they don’t implement a way for PvPers to earn gold or gems or exchange glory or mats into gems.
Why not just get 30 people, and have everyone put 1 day towards the server? That’s 4g each a month. If you have a guild with 30+ people in it, then no problem. Even if it’s $2.50 a day, how many spend more then that on a coffee or bottle of water?
Still, I agree it’s a bit to much for a 5 man team to rent out their own server. I’d say 400 gems a week is fair, because they’ll be able to close some of the hotjoins as people go to use their own servers instead, negating part of the server load increase.
Edit: Make tourney wins give the Custom Arena Time Token?
Would it be too much to ask for an official post?
- Are the 1 day prices definitive?
- Will there be any option to pay for more time?
- Are CA coming today?
and if they do add a way to gain gems for pvp players, and if CA is still 200 per day, I can think of a lot better uses of my gems than an over-priced CA. which is why it is stupid on both counts to have it at this price.
if they make it 200 per week, then we have a way for players who 1) have money or 2) farm pve to have access to CA for a reasonable (if still slightly high) price.
BUT, if they also add a way to get gems in pvp, then the scales are more balanced, and players that play pvp often won’t have to pony up too much money to get this, especially if they pool their gems from their guild.
Maybe gems are gonna find their way back into pvp? Perhaps 3-round tournaments will have worth?

Other games didn’t need that and GW2 does neither. Sold 3 million exemplares, so that’s quite a good revenue. And from the customers view: A customer buys a good product and start investing money if it’s good. That’s not the case for GW2. It’s far away from being good/complete PvP wise.
I mean do you buy putrid fruits? I prefer fresh ones.
If they do 200/gems a day, they MUST reintroduce gems back into rewards via tpvp.

Yes, it would be too much to ask. No offense, but these are relatively fine details about a feature that they never said they were releasing today, and their MO has never really been to pre-comment on this kind of stuff on the forums.
The PR efforts in this game have not been as strong as in GW. Anyone that was around in the GW Beta events or even going back to the E3 for Everyone probably remembers how much pub Gaile and Co. pushout out there and how awesome the communication was. This has not been the A-net way for a long time since then, and while I am sure we would all appreciate the increase in communication; I don’t think it is fair to expect it. They have chosen not to continue operation in that fashion for some business related reason (hopefully it is that rather than operator error), so know the company and manage your expectations accordingly. You will be disappointed far less often.

In the SOTG they said, gems aren’t intended to get back into PvP as rewards.

I think they should allow to turn glory into gems. As it stands, pvp players have 0 ways to buy character slots and such things from the store.

Not saying its how it should be. It is how it is though. The 3 mil sold is attributable primarily to mass marketing, PvE carebears and WvW players, (who are getting their moneys worth in my estimation) so you have a straw man argument there. I agree that the game is far from ideal on the sPvP side of things, but A-net has demonstrated that they are not going to allocate a reasonable amount of resources to improve it as things stand today (7 months is a long enough track record IMO to say this is the plan, not an unusual circumstance). The great equalizer, however is (always) money. Demonstrate that you can be a profitable market to serve and businesses will respond to it. Unfortunately, we don’t even have anything to buy at the moment, so there is no real way to demonstrate our value to A-net.

I remember Sony online entertainment suffering from lack of transparency regarding one of their mmos….that shortly there-after died.
(When asked what he would do differently if he could have a “do over” on Star Wars Galaxies, Smedley said, “We would have encouraged more in-depth discussion with the community surrounding the idea of any game modifications.”)
This is as ridiculous as paid tournaments. PvP feature that i must pay for in a B2P game? Unacceptable. Also, how do you expect nonsense like this to create influx of new players? If i am new player trying GW 2 SPvP or am returning after months of waiting for new features to be finally implemented, first thing i gotta do is spend real money to rent CA and 200 gems per day no less? What a joke. Even F2P games have microtransaction systems based on completely optional content. Here, if i want to duel in peace i have to pay a daily fee? Could you please give us a less cheap way to milk your players? Really, this is too obvious.
And to people who think this kind of behavior from supposedly AAA MMO title company is normal or standard or acceptable, please raise your bloody standards already, i dont care how many gems or money you have, this should be unacceptable for you as well as a matter of principle.
Why is everybody thinking everybody should be able to rent a Custom Server? If anyone were able to rent a Custom Server you would exchange a bad system (Hotjoin) against a worse system (Custom Arenas for everyone = Hotjoin with daily/weekly/monthly costs). As I understand the Custom Server, they are supposed to work exactly as dedicated server used to work in Battlefield for example. Guilds or teams rent them and solo players are able to connect to them and start having fun. Due to that it will be less anonymous and small oder greater communites have a chance to grow. Players come back to servers they enjoy, players can choose to play on deathmatch or domination servers, etc. etc.
As somebody in this thread already mentioned: 200 gems for one person a day is a lot but if there’s a community or a guild with 15-30 people who want to rent a server it’s 4 gold each for half a month / a month. I think that’s okay.
If they do 200/gems a day, they MUST reintroduce gems back into rewards via tpvp.
In the SOTG they said, gems aren’t intended to get back into PvP as rewards.
I get that, but they also never said custom arenas would be 200gems/day. You can’t even get gems via pvp anymore so it makes no sense that a exclusive pvp feature would use gems which pvpers cannot acquire unless they trade gold for gems…
That’s why I said they should reintroduce it if it’s going to be so pricey for a single day’s service.
Otherwise the cost is roughly $60/month to have a custom server. 800 gems for $10 in the gem store, which means it’s $2/day and roughly $60/mo. Who wants to pay that?

In conclusion this means: PVP Custom Servers get rented by PVE Players.
The strategy is to get more pve players into pvp. A brilliant solution!!! A-Net devs are geniuses. Get all the casuals into PvP!!!
Im still hoping those are from internal tests, accidentally leaked.
In my oppinion paid CAs would split the comunity even further into “normal” and “paying” PvP-players (how many people would host/pay a CA for the public)
Also I still don’t get why I should pay for a CA at all when other F2P (not B2P) games offer those for no cost at all.
People are complaining the Custom Arenas are gem based? From the beginning they said this would be the case. Don’t understand how people are surprised by this.
like every year people are complaining how surprised they are that suddenly it is winter…
