If you look at the tooltip it says that it pays for one day.

And what if you are only 5 in a guild – because that is exactly how many you need to play tPvP (or let’s say 6 – one is replacement) – then suddenly it is expensive!

And what if you cannot even afford 4g in a month? There are people out there who just want to play PvP – so getting gold is not an option. Fair enough if ANet supplies the server they surely can be paid. But ~70 EURO/month? Look at other games what server cost like – its less than 50% – in most cases even less than 25%!

And one more thing – if I want to rent a custom arena (for several reasons – I do want to have one) how stupid is it to have to buy that each day – and maybe each day buy gems with real life money??? It would be good to have that on a monthly basis! Or an option to go even longer!

Why? They won’t shut down the free tournaments. You will be able to play for free as you did in the last 7 months. In addition to that you will be able to play on custom cervers rented by others or rent one for yourself.
Don’t get me wrong. I find 2,5€ or 200 gems a day way too expensive but I understand why they make players to pay for custom arenas.

issue is not that they are paid, issue is the prices are exorbitant

Well. We have no problem here, then.

200 gems for 1 day? I can rent a TF2 server for around 20 a month. At ANets current pricing it would cost ~60 a month for a GW2 server. They should have tried to get the pricing around 10-15 a month at most. A good price point would have been 200 gems for 5 days worth of time.

Yes we do have a problem here imo, and people like you are a part of the problem. After 7 months of slow paced, miniscule, unsignificant changes how about they GIVE US SOMETHING GOOD FOR FREE. After all, i did BUY THE GAME advertised as e-sports material, and it still lacks features, after 7 months, that should have been there on release. I dont know about you, but i dont appreciate being cheated and lied to. Instead of giving players opportunity to earn money ( real money not gems) by competing on the top level, they want more money from the players for some not-really-optional features. HA. They will not get a cent from me until all features that make a good PVP MMO are in place and are free of charge, THEN i will consider buying something i like if its completely optional. If that does not happen i will not play this, and i suspect many who dont play feel the same way. Good day.

The Tokens and Starter Kit have been removed from the Trading Posts. Looks like disappointment for those hoping CA’s would be out today. Looks like it’ll be April.

They need to give a way to earn gold/gems from PvP then. PvErs can farm gold easily and ANet always claims they dont want to force people to crossover into a part of the game they don’t like. Yet with this they are forcing PvPers to farm gold in PvE or pay real money (lol)

You can clearly tell that the icon used for the custom arena token is a place holder; so I am pretty sure they are going to update the price and make some fixes once the patch goes live, so don’t panic!
Regardless if CA’s make it into this patch or not, its at least good to see that they are working on them.

We got a communication problem here. My answer wasn’t supposed to say “there is no problem with paid custom arenas or Guild Wars 2 at all.”. It was meant as a direct answer to milo to clarify that I agree with him.
I agree with you, too. There are a lot of features lacking at the moment and there were a lot of things promised which aren’t delivered until now and therefore ArenaNet lied to us. No question about that. All I wanted to say is I can understand why the custom servers are paid but I strongly disagree with the costs as most of you do.
There is also no need for insults. It’s not “people like me” who fail to deliver features needed and I always critizied ArenaNet for their politics regarding sPvP. I just want people to calm down cause kittenstorms won’t make them deliver faster.

Custom Arenas are still being tested on our development servers and are not included in this months patch.
