Q:
DC's vs. ragequit?? how are they recognized?
IIRC, no they don’t have a way to discern a disconnect stemming from your internet bouncing, the client crashing, you intentionally opening task manager and killing the process, etc. All they can tell is that you disconnected.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

You are not wrong. When ever the game decides it’s going to lose contact with the login server and kick me to the character selection or to desktop. I get dishonored.

Now, I would think, if it errors and kicks you to character select, that is something they should be able to (and probably are) recording via logging. Cause we typically see an error pop up from that too. Not sure how this affects dishonor, considering I have seen several streams swapping classes mid game without any visible issues.
It’s when we get completely booted out of the client (for an assortment of available reasons) that I would think they would have the issue with. They can probably look at logging that leads up to that point and take a stab at what might have caused it (depends on what they are logging) but all the server sees is “account disconnected” and handles accordingly. It doesn’t care about why.
Disclaimer: all personal speculation
Dishonor should at least be reduced if you get back into the game quickly. If someone ragequits, they aren’t going to go back into the game right afterward.
