I have tried fighting mesmers on multiple classes but no matter how much I try, I do not get anywhere close to killing most. I’ve played mesmer so i understand the fundamentals. Personally I’ve never thought this class very hard to play and When I do PvP with it, usually I destroy most people without a sweat. However I do not know how to counter them.

PU mesmers I just run from because there is no point in fighting them, you won’t win
Shatter mesmers are hit or miss, It could go either way.

I am able to find the actual target and stay on them very easily. Locating the actual mesmer isn’t hard for me It just seems that they shut me down on every class I play. Any tips to fighting them, Only thing I’ve noticed works effectivly well is playing necro and going lych form on them. That being said, in pvp I play Ranger, Necro, Engineer, Thief, Guardian, Mesmer, In that order.

Honestly, it’s about practice. Mesmers can be a bit difficult to deal with, but hardly unbeatable. You need to learn their attacks and dodge them right. Letting them hit you with attacks like Mirror Blade, Illusionary Berserker, Mind Wrack…is really a bad idea. These attacks have very obvious animation and are easy to dodge. It’s also quite important to learn how to dodge Illurionary Leap. Don’t let the mesmer free cast gs AA on you, so pilars and LOS is a good thing.

Then you need to play your class right, not waste burst when they’re invulnerable for example.

If you can already find the target, you shouldn’t be having issues with them. Mesmers have the weakest condition clear and fairly low defensive ability. You basically just need to wait out blurred frenzy + distortion when you attack.

The easiest way to kill a mesmer is with a condition overload (traps, condi sigils, etc) on ranger. Or, if you’re a power ranger, just keep your distance. Mesmer has a max range of 1200 while ranger can hit at up to 1900 (LB is a bit bugged). Use knockbacks and stealth to get some distance and bring a pet with CC (wolf is pretty good) to force them to use their blink/stun breaks before you burst.

Are you on US or EU?

The best thing to do is to practice dueling against a Mesmer who can tell you what you’re doing wrong. There are plenty of Mesmer in [OMFG] that wouldn’t mind taking the time to help ya out.

No clue what you’re playing but shatter mesmer has basically no condi removal.

Actually that depends on the type of shatter mesmer. They can spec Mantras and have plenty, but that’s usually 1v1 specs and not tpvp.

Shatter is hit or miss like you said. You have to trait PU as condi ranger/engi/1v1 specs. They perform well 1v1 but not so much 2v2/3v3/4v4+ so it makes sense if your team oriented meta build doesn’t do so well against them.

Every class has a 1v1 duelist build associated with them. PU are typically regarded as one these specs.

If you are playing ranger, are you using your pets/utilities to keep the mesmer locked down? A mesmer that is feared/rooted/slowed is much easier to deal with. As you know already, mesmers have great active defenses but it doesn’t last forever.

Wait/bait for an opening and unload.

Due to way a dps Mesmer (ie a majority builds) often works, they are incredibly weak to conditions. So just try and build stacks and wear them down. They cant take any pressure at all, not even as bunkers. A strong bunker that can apply lots of conditions is the best way to deal with them.

If you are trying to fight a dps Mesmer with another dps build, good luck with that. They are one of the most dangerous foes you can meet.

Their attacks are very telegraphed(mirror blade, izerker, shatter effect on their body). With some practice, u should be able to dodge all these. Remember u need to dodge into clones that are being shattered. Too many players dodge away.

They have stealths, which means they can stealth burst on you. These are the toughest to avoid. However, the stealth duration is known and u can somewhat guess their attack timing. Just pay close attention when they go stealth. Also, they usually save decoy for rough situations.

It takes some practice. But all the classes u listed can beat shatter mesmer. Some even have a good advantage over them.

Best advice is to find someone who mains mesmer to practice with.

The real mesmer moves more naturally and humanly, they are that type of class that punishes new players very badly specially those who are new into pvp. Like Exciton suggested best way is to practice with a mesmer friend.

Just stick to your thief and spam stealth, evade, backstab, insta cast steal, consume plasma, insta casts insta casts insta casts.

Or just go with what someone said and bring a lockdown mes vs a mes. Easiest class to destroy with an interrupt build- for a strange twist of irony.

Can’t speak for the other classes, but pretty much every build I play with guard just facerolls mesmer. Dodge mirror blade and illusionary leap and you’re usually good to go, since mind wrack is so kitten obvious to avoid.
