Q:

There is something crucially wrong when at the end of a match a zerg that loses the match has atleast double glory of the players on the winning team. This is getting very irritating. Zerging will always be prevalent regardless of the pt system. However, rewarding it is very bad, rewarding it by so much is pretty lame kitten design imo.

40 pts for a match win will never compete with the amount of pts you can get from ignoring pts all together and zerging for glory. Might I suggest 200 pts for a win or something. It has to be substantial to entice people (strange as it may sound) to win the match.

I get what you’re saying, and I agree with the sentiment. However, I needed to quote this, because the fact that games have devolved to this point, where the reward means more than the competitive spirit, is ultra sad to me.

Even when the reward is purely cosmetic.

Agree 100%. I’ve never understood the fun of “farming” for anything, especially PvP rewards. I would say the issue with hotjoin is that there isn’t really a “competitive spirit” because the “team” you’re on may have all its members leave and be replaced with new ones by the end of the match; or, you may be forced to join the other “team” multiple times. The fact that playing badly is rewarded with extra fashion points probably makes the problem worse, though.

Thats your suggestion? Stop doing it? Why even post…

Obviously I care, I guess being competitive is bad.

hotjoins arent competitive, and are a different enviroment, people are praticing specs, looking for a fight, not trying to win the objectives.

in tournies they focus on objectivees.

What a shortsighted post, everyone who plays tournaments should care that the initial entry point / casual part of sPvP for “fun” is the worst of its type in any MMORPG (that I’ve played), that simply turns players off and in turn reduces the numbers of people that go on to play tournies.

In case you haven’t noticed the structured PvP part of the game has flopped pretty badly and part of that is due to how dismal hot join is.

For many people like myself, rewards are the reason we play. That’s not to say we don’t enjoy it – we do. But it’s not enough. I need to see some progression – something. Anything.

That’s why I never play WvW – fun concept but you get nothing for the time you spend there. I only do the jumping puzzle for the badges and destroy the siege plans afterwards.

I love PvP – it’s fun, and challenging. But I wouldn’t do it if not for the glory. For the loot. For bragging rights. “Fun” isn’t enough. I need something for my time.

In fact, sPvP needs more rewards, not less. The time to rank up keeps increasing and in the meantime I’ve already got the best gear for my tier. They need to have intermediate rewards of some kind to keep us motivated.

The original Guild Wars allowed us to earn real gold and super cool rewards via PvP with Zaishen chests. It was understood that PvP was super fun. But we need something more.

I think I need to stop playing mmos. These type of people, unfortunately very common, makes me sad to live in this world.

Controlling player behavior is unusual. IN hotjoins with 8on8, its much more likely to denigrate into just a brawl, which is fine, i didnt mind brawling when i first started to pvp. However, if they want to provide a glory buff to winning games, that would be ok…after all glory doesn’t do anything really at this point. Just effects ur rank and appearance gear. Which motiviates some people i guess.lol ive never changed my appearence gear for anything.

I want to stop playing hotjoins but it seems a minimum rank is a prerequisite for many PUG groups for tournies. So I have to grind the boring hotjoins for glory until I get a rank that people are willing to accept.

Ya usually people are interested in ranks 25+.
Though you can grind this out quick in free tournies by solo quing for them, also youll get the 50% extra glory tokens doing this.

They don’t have any desire to promote solo people running around ganking and capping points and avoiding fights either. In fact between that and your ‘zerging’…both the developers and the majority of players would choose zerging.

Vast majority of people join a 5v5 or 8v8 because they want a 5v5 or 8v8 fight.. these are not large numbers of people (and calling them a zerg is somewhat laughable)!

The real mystery is why they made all these relatively complex 3-flag maps for such small fights…
