I like it in PvE, I hate it in hot join, I like it in tournaments.

On the other hand I hate everything in hot join because 8v8 is stupid.

Downed state is fine, its the 8v8 zergfest thats the problem. In a 5v5 it feels much more tactical/interesting.

A lot of issues are mostly related to the 8v8 format sadly, yet ANet seems to insist in offering this format for whatever reason.

Mesmer/Thief issues? Not much of a problem in 5v5, very much an issue in pub stomping 8v8 zerg fest.

Downed state? Perfectly fine and tactical in 5v5. Comlpetely stupid in 8v8.

Trebuchet in Kylo? Balanced and interesting tactical choice in 5v5. Completely overpowered and free glory for the one rushing fastest to it in 8v8.

Killing guild lord? Risky tactical choice in 5v5. 8v8? Lol, no problem, always rush him for max glory.

Etc.

I don’t find down state that much different than rez sig in gw1. Both can be stopped if you pay attention and interrupt the player. The only problem I have is that some down states are slightly overpowered and some underpowered.

Ele’s down state is the hands down worse, Mesmer is the best by far.

2 vs 1 situation .
You kill one ,and you think that this should reward your skill … Wrong!
Instead here comes the guardian ccing you , shield blocking everything and rez the guys you downed .
When this happens i’m such a sad panda .
I’m for completely removing it from PvP but this , unfortunately , is not going to happen.

Then you should not go 2 vs 1. No class should be able to kill 2 others by themselves without help. Yeah. It is annoying if you got him downed and can’t kill him because some other guy is around. But that’s how it works.

Sorry but i completely disagree .
Not saying i should go 1 vs 2 but what about if i’m defending a point , 2 enemies come and i’m able to down one of em ?
I clearly played better so , imo , i should be rewarded instead of being punished.

This is where the fact that it is team based gameplay really comes into play. In this example if I am defending or on a node solo and 2 enemies come to fight me. Immediately our team is at an advantage else where. I communicate this to them and let them know they can push for a different objective on the map because they have one less man on the map. In my mind at the point its all about how much time can I buy my team and keep these two people here. If I down 1 thats awesome, but in tourement pvp unless I have mist for um to stomp a player I just dont expect to win a 2v1. For the most part the odds are not in your favor and imo thats how it should be. They sent 2 back to take out 1 of you, they already put themselves at a disadvantage whether you down 1 both or none. Its your job to let your team know to play aggressive because they have the numbers advantage or take map control while you do whatever you can at the point your in against the 2 your facing.

Thats just how I play out that scenario, another way is call for help from an ally, stall as long as possible. If you are good enough to down 1 person in a 1v2 then if you call for an ally, when they get there they can finish the stomp for you and then you have a 2v1 against the remaining enemy. At that point they either are going to have to send 3 back to get the point or just concede it for the time being, either way your team comes out with an advantage.

Oh and a third way to play that out is if you see 2 coming, leave the point they cap it and usually people will go back to their team and leave the point open and you can back cap on them or if there is only 1 defending then its just a simple 1v1, hopefully you win and get the kill plus a cap.

Thats just my thinking on that type of scenario.

I don’t like it because it makes a 1v2 very improbable. I’ve still won 1v2 but it is exceptionally hard. You basically need either quickness or stability to stomp someone.

Im r22 now and I hate the downed and water combat. It slows the game down soo much and it really just sucks. The water combat as well as the downed garbage is bearable, but I find it hard to believe that anyone would miss it if it was gone. The main problem is that 2 players that have even half a brain and know how to press 1 can beat the best player in the world (obviously there are exceptions a warrior/thief and pop quickness and crap on bad players).

Please remove it. I went back to wow today and it is a hell of a lot more fun, but the balance is not there so I will stick to GW2.

Actually I’d probably be ok with Downed in PVP if the downed person couldn’t do anything by themselves. They were completely reliant on their team mate to get them back up. No attacks, no heal, no CC from the ground.

downed state adds a new element to organized pvp that is pretty nice, I’d hate to see it go, although some of the downed state abilities could definitely use a review, they dont need to be as annoying as they are. Nothing sucks like blowing every CD/spending all your endurance to down a warrior only to have him get back up and hit you with HB to the face when all your abilities are already on cooldown from the first fight. At least if he got revived it was your own fault for letting it happen.

actually, good players can use downed states to their advantage. keep someone downed and out of the fight by denying respawn or controlling the moment of death until a respawn window passes has great advantages for good players as well.

I agree, I find myself just ignoring downed players and letting others finish them off because its too gimmicky clicking around on the floor and waiting for it to finish them its more effective to just carry on and ignore them.

Its like you don’t have a downed state yourself. Good players adapt my friend. Also, I would bet almost anything you run a glass cannon Thief or Warrior and are mad that you cant burst people down in pubs using your utter lack of skill.

Its like you don’t have a downed state yourself. Good players adapt my friend. Also, I would bet almost anything you run a glass cannon Thief or Warrior and are mad that you cant burst people down in pubs using your utter lack of skill.

You’d lose that bet, since I play either condition necro or P/S engi. Both incredibly tanky.

You aren’t actually providing any kind of argument as to downstate being a plus or minus and are just trying to attack people for no reason, try actually adding to the discussion.

Downed is really awful.

What they need to do is greatly reduce the HP that you have while downed. You shouldn’t need a melee only finishing move to kill someone, they should be easily killable through a few normal attacks.

Also they need to remove EVERY #2 and EVERY #3 ability from downed state. And #1 too probably. This is in PVP only.

Adding a kitten minigame to kill someone once they hit 0 HP is NOT a good way to create an esport.

Don’t forget that you have to make yourself incredibly vulnerable to stomp someone. And considering that some professions rely on range or kiting, it seems incredibly counter-intuitive to force that player into melee to attempt to stomp someone.

Your being punished because you traveled alone. Sure you downed the person, but there are times traveling alone is a bad idea. I always travel with a second person because that slight chance there will be another person to show up. It’s better to work as a team than be the lone wolf that tries to take on their team alone.

You don’t have to stomp the person to kill them. Most players I see attack the downed victim until dead because you leave yourself too open.

I hated it first but I actually love it now. It makes a better team even more likely to win. In other MMOs you could win with fights with lucky swaps and bursting someone down. You can’t do that in GW2.

It really doesn’t. It’s just a stability/fear war.

Like I said – I’m fine with that. If the person has to rely completely on teammates to get back up, and has no abilities on their own. That improves teamwork without making it so that people who are downed can still win a fight.

I dont mind downed state.. but i dont get why there should be more then 1 really tiny dps ability. It should be about CC and not about dps while being downed. Currently that is what makes 2v1 really tricky.

It also doesnt create much skill if you ask me. Yes you when on the ground can assist your friends, but the chance that you can get yourself up before somebody drives a flag through your skull is near impossible unless you are close to team mates. In other areas coming 2v1 is something you always have to avoid, its simply not doable for most classes and the ones who can rely on one special skill to pop to do so.

Honestly it needs changing, i think remove any dps abilities from it. Give it CC abilities that have the same range as the finish move. And give them one potent heal, this way the person downed is focussing on himself trying to get himself up to help his team mates. And not fighting along his team mates in a state that takes far longer to kill it sometimes feels.

I agree, it definitely needs to go or be radically changed. It is just terrible game design in my opinion and is by far the most frustrating thing i have encountered in the game. fortunately there are many ways to improve it, and i will be very surprised if Anet dont eventually do so.

i didnt read all the post, but my issue with being down is some class’s are just insane while downed, thieves are the best example with teleporting around , mesmers are pretty bad also but its not as bad. and tbh i dont even bother trying to down players anymore i just keep attacking them until they die

I didnt like it at first but it actually works really well. I hope they do not remove it.

Also it doesnt reward players for getting a finisher. I get most of my points from assists and let other players finish the downed guy while i work on points for another player.

The idea of sPVP is to play as a team. Its not a solo game afterall. Being able to revive your ally can be crucial in a game.

You can still revive when they are defeated, removing downed states would make classes like elementilist and ranger alot more viable.

What bothers me the most is that the downed person has a pool of 200% of its normal health making it very long to just dps them. Also stomping is very bad for ranged classes as they have to come close.

I want downed removed or have an option when browsing the pvp servers to join one without down state.

You do understand that you don’t have to “finish him” right?

This ain’tkittenMortal Combat. You can stand far and shoot a couple of arrows/bullets/crappy flying light (if you’re a guardian) every couple of seconds and you’ll still kill them. Meaning, most of the “unbalanced downed skills” don’t even come to affect you.

Think of SPvP like it’s a cat and a mouse. The mouse got caught and the cat can eat him anytime, but decides to play with it some more. But, if the cat isn’t careful, the mouse runs away. That’s what downed state is. You lost, but you have a chance (if the one that downed you isn’t paying attention) to get back up and have another go at them.

I agree with you. And that was a good comment regarding WoW – it’s WAY more fun (unfortunately, I was hoping GW2 will be the next awesome thing) to PvP there, but the class imbalance is what made me stop playing it 2 years ago.

I occasionally tune in but I see nothing has changed, so I stay away.
