I do hotjoins from time to time, and I usually press the ‘’Play Now’’ button, but I always seem to be placed in some kind of ’’duel’’ match.

If you enter and start taking points, or starting to attack someone you get a kittenstorm coming at you.

I’m getting really, really, really tired of entering a match where I get ‘’Leave, we are having duels’’

Of course, when they ask me to leave., I leave. It was just in the start I didn’t check the amount of players it was in that match. Now, every time I enter a match I always check how many there are, and if I only see one on the red team, and one of the blue team, I write if they are having duels, and the answer seems to always be yes, and I always seem to be placed in such matches.

Just do something about it, I just can’t be kitten having a kittenstorm coming at me if I start capturing points or killing another player.

Some times that places us in the same match as the duelers, i’ve left and rejoined three times. After that I usually get cussed at for /interrupting/.

“Play Now” will usually take you to dark places.. you’re much better off selecting a match manually, unless you like jumping into duels and almost dead servers.

And now again, I joined a match with full players, and somehow, when that match ended, I ended up in a ’’duel’’ map again…

Most 5v5 servers these days are duel servers. If you want to avoid that, join 8v8s with 10+ people in them. If you insist on playing 5v5s, maybe try tourney solo join, but be prepared for rage if you are newer or less skilled.

Hopefully custom servers alleviate this somewhat.

I have done (somewhat) many solo joins. I don’t doubt my own skills, I have done really good in these matches even though we have lost.

It’s just that from time to time you just want to chill and a enter a hotjoin, not taking it too seriously and just have fun (ironic, I know, coming here and complain about people having duels.)

It’s just that it happens a lot.

The play now button is based on rank, so if you are over rank 15 or so, you’ll be over the average rank of almost all hotjoin rooms. I don’t hotjoin except if I just want to complete the daily and no one from my guild is on to do tournaments with (since solo queue can’t be mixed with team games) and I always try the play now button once or twice before manually selecting a game. I almost always either go to an empty server or a duel room.

Don’t leave and ruin their duel. If they complain more or start to insult you then report them. They are doing it wrong. The hotjoin servers are not meant for duel. Duel system still needs to be implemented by ArenaNet.

Instead they should whine daily in the forums… maybe this will help to get ArenaNet to implement a duel function faster.

Just think as the “play now” button as a “duel now” button

Here are some tips so you can tell the difference. If you join a match and it is low population, two points are neutral and one is either contested or cap’d, then check the timer if an 5 mins or more has passed the people there are duelling. Unless they happen to be the worst PvP’rs in the world, in which case you would also want to move along as well.

Yeah that play now is stupid, it should place you in the populated servers and not the servers with 8 people in them.

I use to click on the servers but I’ve become tired of reading network error on 13/16 games. Even when I click refresh the game is still 13/16 but I can’t join it for some unknown reason!

What I really don’t understand is why it takes so long to report back that a game is full while when I join a game that is not full, it immediately jumps to the loading screen. When it doesn’t immediately go to the loading screen, I know that, under most circumstances, that means the game is full, and yet I can’t join another game until the message pops up. It’s really weird and annoying.

If they want practicing, you can nicely ask them can I join in and have fun with them.if you don’t want to, that is ok and leave. It is not really their fault for doing so caused Anet give no option to duel server nor private Server. I often don’t turn people down when they join in but ask them nicely, we are dueling, pls no interference. However, by watching them duel, you can actually learn a lot,either which the class u are playing or the class you may against in the future which you will never get in big team fight. Treasure those moment to polish yourself xD

E-Sports was GW2’s secondary if not primary marketing thing. Custom Arena’s are way overdue, same for Spectator mode, but now the Custom Arena’s will not be freely available. That is just a horrible decision. I understand that they are having trouble finding a good way to make their micro-transaction scheme work, but putting a must have feature for E-sport in a gem store, makes it clear they have no clue what they are talking about when speaking of both PvP and E-Sports.

regarding the OP: Yes, this is common in Hot Join now, we do not have any dueling servers, 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3, it is just as annoying to the dueling players to keep having to inform people popping up that they are having a duel. Its both ways.

I agree with Obly. Custom Arena stuff should be free and maybe some premium features. you need to buy some of that Custom Arena tokens.

Also duels should not need a Custom Arena… people want to duel and we have the problem with them using hotjoin servers and other people joining and the only thing they can hope for are Custom Arenas where they need to buy stuff because they are not free available?

Why can’t they just make a simple /duel function or something…

The fact that players are doing it like this does not mean they are okay with it; it means we are making due instead of hunger striking like idiots until Anet gives us custom servers. I also highly doubt it would take one person a single hour to revamp how hotjoin works as well as code the entire new custom server system.

Maybe not 1 hour… but the people always wanted this and the game has been released for months(duel should have been something already possible at release). The fact that it still is not implemented means not enough people talked about it in the forums…

… or they ignored the players for months. If they want players to use Custom Arena they should at least make duel free and not require stuff from the gem store.

What about adding something called “duels” ?

Wait, this word is completely ignored, I wouldn’t be surprised if soon “duel” is censored into kitten.

Custom arenas will have way more options than just a duel, we should be able to do 1v1 or 2v2 or nvn, and more stuff.
I have waited for so long for this that i dont mind even paying 2k gems for it, just…. pls, DONT make it on a limited time….. that “Time token Custom arena” scares me like hell, if we got to pay gems every day in order to be able to open a pvp room that would be the WORST idea ever.

I often do duels and mainly build tests with my team mates in hotjoin rooms, cause there isnt any other place to do so… and when we face Kitten ppl like you we just switch team and brutally slay them all togheter till they leave.

A “Duels will be implemented soon” reply from a dev would have made me happy, instead they show they really dont care for the dueling community. Its pathetic really, I have no reason to play anymore because the most fun features I enjoy in MMOs (deathmatch, 1v1, arena) are not in this game.

We have been working on things However, we’re nearing the end of a development cycle, so there is literally nothing more I can do right now to help with the dueling “problem” for this patch. When custom arenas are out, you’ll have a much easier time finding the kind of server you like to play on.

The obvious question here then is “Why wasn’t it a priority to address the dueling problem this patch?”

I mean, it’s been a growing problem – 3 out of 5 5v5 hotjoins are “Dueling only” servers. I’m not talking about the play now button, I’m not talking about joining a 3/10 or 4/10 game. 7+/10 games, time after time after time, and everyone is dueling. If I’ve got half an hour to kill and I’m in the mood for a handful of matches, I don’t want to spend 10 minutes server hopping between dueling servers and 8/10 server telling me they’re full. Why wasn’t this a priority 2 patches ago?

I think I have found a diamond in here.

First of all 1v1s happen usually;

1. On a 3 digit number server.
2. Most people are gathered up in one place chilling and seeing 1v1.

So since you have got no excuse of finding a server to farm your rank and glory why would you impose what you want as an individual to the majority in that server?

And to reply to the ArenaNet stuff dueling is not a problem with our without quotations. It is a demand that has been expressed through the lack of not being answered to.

Don’t forget team/solo rating while you’re here, i want to play the game and be succesful at it, but by solo queing a lot due to IRL stuff ( because not all of us are 12 years old kids with 24/7 of time to play the game) i went from top 100 to 85% in a couple of pugging days, and since i do not have so much time nowdays, it’s becoming harder and harder not only to find a team, but also to find good players to play with for a good pug, at least for my timeframe.

Sorry, I mistyped. That phrase should be “if you want GW2 to have a FUTURE”. And about priority I was not talking about duels.
I was talking about SPvP in general. Custom arenas should had been avaiable since launch… 8 months passed…
MMR and leaderboard took 7 months…
Split queues should be integrated together with ranked matches…

High priority to SPvP means a higher “top player” base that will stream their matches, have interviews etc.
And the consequence for this will be a higher visibility of GW2 in esport community.
And the consequence of this means more new players.
Which obviously means more fun for players and more money for you.

So,I’m wondering why SPvP was ignored till now… :/

I still wish for open world dueling, like a challenge system

Just add the kitten things already so I can judge whether I leave this game or stay!

sry i understand that you guys try and get done what you can when you can with the amount of resources you have, but I’m not buying it, this is a symptom not the cause of slow development.

THE REAL ISSUE is you guys are not getting the support you need to make spvp more developed and fun due to your company lack of interest in pvp and its full focus on pve

the reason for this is because Anet finds pve more profitable so pvp will always get the back burner. that’s just business, if your pvp team ever wants the support it needs and deserves (and you guys really deserve it, its not fair honestly). then you must first find a way to make pvp more profitable and financially viable so that your company has more incentive to develop pvp and get content out. do this then worry about content and game modes.

and honestly in my opinion custom servers could make some money but i think there are much better ways of making money when marketing towards pvp.

like templates…. omg please sell templates already id buy those for each of my characters.

Dear customer,
we are not working on the requested feature. We know what you actually want and will decide for you what is important and what is not. However if you have any issue with the gem store or your credit card we will help as fast as possible. Thank you for your investments we will reward that with further non-relevant items in the gem store. We love designing purchasable items for the gem store, but simple functions like a duel feature is actually not relevant because all our competitors already have that.
If you have any question regarding class balancing we have great news for you too. Currently our CIO is playing a warrior in PvE and a mesmer in PvP thus you should stick with those classes. However that might change in the future if he decides to level an alt via credit-card-gems-to-gold-crafting-guide.

Don’t take me too serious, but that’s the feeling I get while reading red posts in the forum ;-)

For me it’s the same maps just with some extras and nothing more. I predict after a months it gets on the same level of boringness as hotjoin.

I like the schedule in terms of objetives, it just sucks on it’s timing. Many people left already, few ( like me ) came back with ladders. The thing is that anet might think they have infinite time to develop the desired sPvP as long as gw2 it’s doing money with pve, so spvp looks like a plus; it is just not the main business.

But don’t be wrong, as soon as there is any other mmo pvp game out there competing with you, you will loose the chance. PvP community will not wait forever. Ever heard of oportunity cost? try explaining that to your bosses guys.

sPvP team needs attention from the company, and that is your fault not getting it-not earning it.

I can bet that you are trying to time the sPvP team schedules with pve teams and other company areas, if that is so, that’s a big fail. The pve timings and pvp timings MUST be different due to the innate nature of the pvp itself. PvP needs constant “movement”, the people playing pvp is what makes the pvp, there must be clear horizonts, reasons to practice, reasons to invest time for the pvp. We can`t be satisfied having a little chapter on the patch notes for the pvp. PvP patches should have their own timing, like if the pve didn’t exist.

I guess you get the point. Sorry for the long post.

It’s probably been talked more about on forums than many things that were actually changed. The fact that the game is not nearly as balanced as it should be takes a bit of precedence (no comments on how that’s being taken care of aside from that I’m not particularly pleased with some of the direction) as well as the lack of playing options from a build variety perspective for some professions. We’re not being ignored, but there’s a huge host of issues that should have been addressed before the game was released that were not; had duels existed upon release, the game would still be in a bad state pvp-wise.

If they want players to use Custom Arena they should at least make duel free and not require stuff from the gem store.

I will agree with you here. Requiring gems (rather than glory/regular in-game funds) is a bad move.

Custom Arenas enables you to run private Torunaments and/or Scrims! ESports! woohoo

Consider also that programmers are working….. making games is their job, usually u expect some money from your job. Indirectly we are those paying thier job, remember that this is one of those few MMO (if not the only) that doesnt have a monthly fee, and isnt a PayToWin game.
This is why i think putting Custom Arenas as a gem feature isnt bad, as long as it is a one-time-only purchase, as long as it is 2k or 3k gems and there you go, i’m fine with it.
