Only 3rd AA hits for some solid number,and that can be reflected by random magnetic aura…. .3rd skill hits only rooted targets.Quite bad weapon “dmg wise” and there aint much choices left for 1h melee.Mace is a joke in pvp outside of some crazy builds.

I was once a really hardcore 1v1 Guardian PvP player and now I started again playing guardian.
I can say that too, that sword dmg could be higher but it’s not meant to be high dmg dealing weapon. Sword is good set up to increase your mobility + the port blind and the 3d skill who blocks projectiles.
If you want to deal more dmg with your sword use the Radiance traitline Right-Hand Strength or what I recomend is Healer’s Retribution + Retribution trait 10% more dmg while having retaliation + 10% extra crit chance against burning enemies + burning dmg is increased by 15%
But this works better with meditation trait not as dh.
But fact is sword is not meant to deal high dmg that’s why you have greatsword or longbow. Also that’s why you can port+blind and block projectiles with sword 3.
The DMG is still there if you know how to use it
My Oldschool Guardian Build works really nice GS deals same if not more dmg as lb + it’s faster and again more mobility. (Only LB 2 deals more dmg)
But on the current meta you should play something else that have more teamsupport.

Guardians always asked for a rework on the skill 3 of the Sword why it hit for half of the hits a immobile target if at 400 range (is a 600 range skill…).
But the AA is good. Can be reflected but there’s a really small amount of classes in spvp that can reflect projectiles.
I think that is good, but you need to see the entire chain skills to see how good it is and in spvp isn’t easy to hit so frequently a moving target. And frequently you have better skills to use than the AA of a melee weapon.
Meanwhile, ele sword damage is non-existent.

I would give up our sword for warr axe in a heart beat. You don’t understand how much projectile hate there is right now. Sword is useless atm.

Tbh, if they just made it so that third hit on the sword auto actually landed in a more reliable fashion, that’d be enough.

You realize I’m not arguing for Thief right. Right? I’m just pointing it out. I play one shot Guardian, and my wep of choice is sword/focus. I think its absolutely fine. Minus the 2 skill. That thing sucks so hard, I always forget to stop wondering why its such a dry skill.

Guard sword damage is low, it however provides a lot of defence so it balances out pretty well

Yeah but you kinda added bunch of stuff other classes have not really related to the sword and left all that out of thief. A guard might have better staying power through blocks (though thief has as many blinds) but they have much worse disengage, if it’s not going your way and no-one is there to help you gtfo then you’re a dead guard while having the same health as thief. Oh wait, they have more base toughness, guess some thief is going to point that out like it makes any difference…
Yeah that projectile block skill is terrible though.
Sword on guardian is far from the only weapon that sucks.
The scepter is still crap for anything outside of melee range due to how slow the projectiles move. (if they would turn it into a channeled beam ala mesmer greatsword style they could lower the over all DPS)
(Scepter number 2 should also be made into a symbol of some sort)
The hammer attacks aside from mighty blow are so slow that any player paying attention can avoid them. (not to mention the AA feels like it takes forever to get off)
The staff, well the staff is a relic from when the game first launched and has no place anywhere in the current game outside of mass mob farming in PvE where it does just enough damage to tag enemies but far from enough to actually be useful.
How to fix sword:
- Remove projectile status of auto atk chain.
- Improve Sword Wave radius.
- Zealot’s Defense… omg! Unroot this!
Damage output is okay.
