How many are keen for S4
I don’t care about season 4, except that the quality of players will rise in Unranked.

looking forward for season 4? NOPE, but will i play during S4? YES till i reach legendary then stop. aslong as ANET doesnt give legendary players a reason why keep playing at that level with lack of reward. dont even start with long Q’s. and i think it will be worst these S4.

Ruthless Legend
I want to see the balance changes first.
I’m not currently enjoying the current direction of the current meta at the moment regarding our lacking build diversity, competitive game modes, the bugs plaguing multiple professions, and lots of core aspects of aforementoined’s traits and abilities being antiquated to the annoyingly passive HoT powercreep.
S3 was pretty boring and uneventful, getting to Legendary took faster than ever (due to starting in Div 3), while the queue times have grown significantly. With no new rewards and nothing to work towards, no I’m not looking forward to S4.
Unless the matchmaking is improved then no I’m not looking forward to it at all.
NOT ME.
Just scrap the leagues. They’ve been a DISASTER. I already gave them THREE chances. No more.
I only have 1 achivement left for the wings (6 wins in a day. was near impossible for me during S3). So I’m definitely looking forward to S4 so I can be done with pvp league :/
Incoming Quaggans [iQ]
I already have the wings, but I find this game’s PvP fun regardless. So the seasons don’t matter to me as much. I’d still be playing PvP with or without them.
As a solo player, i could careless about season 4… it’s going to be the same as season 3 for many…
Nothing at all to work towards and stay motivated for besides an icon next to your name which means nothing in reality.
Got the back piece
Got the mini even though i’m never going to use it, since i like the raid minis.
Soo longer queue for nothing but more salt….
i’ll just stick with unranked again this season

Lol. My faith in anet to deliver a fun season 4 experience is pretty much nonexistent. Worst “ranked” or “competitive” pvp system of any game I’ve ever played, propped up by moderately entertaining gameplay…which gets old pretty fast due to the complete dearth of build variety.
Lucky for me, if season 4 starts at roughly the same interval as season 3 did, I’ll be on holiday enjoying sights and having fun.
If they add the new map, and the two revamped old-new maps, into the map rotation I will be way more keen for it.
If the balancing in the next patch is on point, as well, I’ll also be way more keen for it.
Not looking forward to it at all because I don’t think that matchmaking will be improved in any meaningful way to make it more indicative of individual skill and not somehow punish players or benefit them just because.
However, I still have 45 wins, 50k rank points, 10 wins on 2 professions and 3 division crossings (which I’ll only have to actually grind through Sapphire thanks to making Diamond this season) to get my wings, so I’ll have to suck it up and punish myself by playing enough to finish before I can go back to doing kitten I might actually enjoy.
If Anet fixes the long list of things that make sPvP frustrating, I’d love to play it more, but I just don’t have a lot of faith at this time. It’s just too much to do in a single patch to get right.
Gave up during S3 so won’t be playing S4 at all.

Not going to happen. I made a thread suggesting a reward system for playing in legendary, but bunch of people raged and said that there should be no rewards for playing in the top league.

I am very excited for season 4. I still have to get my 10 wins achievements on 4 classes so I am not looking forward to that (but as an AP hunter it is something I have to do) but in general I have loved pvp since leagues were introduced and have improved my play a huge amount (I can hold a 1v1 a lot of pro league players now). As for matchmaking, I genuinely do not see why people are upset about it. There is no matchmaking system that will give you close matches extremely often and that 100% prevents loss streaks regardless of skill level which I guess is what people would want. Matchmaking is great in my opinion, especially when I get grouped against players better than myself because those are the games that I can improve the most in and learn more from that any other games even when I lose.
My target for next season will be to reach prestige 6 or higher through solo queue alone because in season 1 I reached prestige 1, prestige 3 in season 2 and prestige 5 in season 3 with only solo queue so it would be great to keep improving in every season. I will be playing ranger again and I can’t wait to see how the balance patch affects the meta next season.

I’ve finished the legendary back item, but I’m still looking forward to it.
The gameplay from Elite specs is just really bad.
The skill ceiling has been lowered unilaterally in sPvP since HoT.
This games pvp has regressed to just rotating through ‘utility’ based HoT skills.
Seasons may be appealing to carrot-on-a-stick MMO fans, but frankly it’s irrelevant for those that came here for the combat system.

I’m only playing to get to ruby, once I have, I’ll never play in the leagues again.

wont be coming back but still read forum?
First season was to see how far I could get ( ruby 5 ). The other seasons were to get the wings of ascension ( that I transmuted to champion’s wings because it looks better ) and rank at least in ruby.
I know I will play pvp anyway, even if they removed leagues. leagues just add a meter of self esteem.
I’m a bit hyped for the next following patch, maybe they will come up with a patch focused on unused weapon sets. That would be great.
Im looking forward to it, even though S3 was hell. After i reach ruby which i need to get the backpack, probably will play a lot less pvp.
I’d rather have the leaderboards back.

No, I’m dreading it. Most of all, I am afraid ANET is going to say that matchmaking went well in S3 and just needs a few tweeks. The level of exploiting by teams was awful.
I have 3 divisions to cross for the kittening wings. Then I can leave “leagues” to the voice enabled teams and let them use someone else for a whipping girl.
If three failed seasons doesn’t tell you the fourth will fail, you’re never going to learn.
Hey folks,
It’s been a while since we’ve commented on leagues, so here’s a brief update.
There’s definitely room for improvement in the league system, and it’s safe to say that it’s the team’s highest priority now that we’ve signed off on everything going in for the July release. It’s still a bit early to talk about specifics, but I do think we can talk about some of the goals we have for the changes:
- Improve match quality
- Make divisions more reflective of player skill
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
We’re still determining the scope of the project, but I do want to be clear that it’s unlikely that these changes will be in for S4. Once we get a bit further in the dev process I’ll see if I can give an update on our thoughts/direction.
-Grouch
Thx a lot for this comment and i’m certainly we will appreciate your thoughts and directions even if they are not fixed yet for future release.
A dev posted a positive comment. Here come the pessimistic people. Can’t blame em tho, but if devs can achieve their goal, leagues will be amazing.
Also, Josh, the way the current legendary backpiece is rewarded (people needing to cross divisions) should be changed if you make divisions more representative of skill, as most would get stuck in a division, unable to climb further = no more progressing divisions. Otherwise not all people could get them. I’m fine by that, but I don’t think majority will be-
Tomiyou ? pessimistic? My post was not ironical. I’m really happy interaction is started, and i’ll hope the rest of this topic will be constructive.

Yep – this has been part of our discussions, and ties back to:
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
no shouting is needed he said “match quality” is on their priorty list, better is discuss about why matches are unfair so they can cope with it. (and preferable in a constructive way)

He did say that. I hope it manifests in the game.

You know, typing everything in caps is not gonna help. He was gonna read your post anyway, as he did read mine.
I was expressing frustration and anger over 3 seasons of stompings. I apologize if it was offensive.
On Topic; I think match quality is far and away the biggest issue. Perhaps any team should be counted as higher MMR because it is a team.

I prefer grindable seasons like season 1 over your plans wich usually make things worse than better. Season 1 was by far the best season so far.
Just a question from me. You are planning to do something about mmr on old accounts ?
Difference between playing on new or old account is huge for matchmaking. And as an edit i agree with Malediktus (not for the grindable that was an exploit, but base mechanics in season1) however that’s personal.

I thought Season 1 was considered by many to be the worst, because of people exploiting it and the bunker meta?

I think everyone knows that matchmaking is horrible except maybe whoever came up with the current system.
Matchmaking will always ben broken as long as they stack one team to win every game.
@ Zynt exploit can be easily solved by not granted pips when with lower members, offset 2 or something ( or something similar). Meta has nothing to do with seasons. that is balance. Best thing about season 1 was odd’s: good team against bad team, bad team won they had 2 pips. (ideal would be if good team won no pips, bit like in chess or tennis or wathever, you can only gain points when fighten similar or above you). But then they should not reset people in ranks after season, but make legendary atractrive somehow so people keep playing once they reach that.

Thank you, Josh, for the response.
It’s great that you guys want to improve match quality and make divisions reflect player skill, BUT, the league system just makes all of that impossible. The way the leagues are designed and built just guarantees that these problems will always exist.
First off, pips. Pips system is not about skill, it’s about grind. This is pretty much a re-skin of the old point-based leaderboards but WORSE. Anyone can grind up pips to move up the ladder if they try hard enough. Sound familiar? It’s WORSE because the matchmaking system is mixed with the pip system. This brings me to matchmaking.
You can have a league system with PIPS or MMR for ranking, but you CANNOT have both. Thanks to the matchmaking, players get stuck on divisions and can’t grind their pips! Some players are more fortunate than others and have the MMR gods smile upon them. Others…not so.
I suggest an MMR-based ladder. I think we used to have that in the first couple years.

Since these changes will more than likely not make it to S4, does that mean you guys will implement a 5th season this year? Or are these changes to leagues something that we won’t be able to see until 2017 if they don’t make it in time for S4?

It feels rewarding enough at this points – it’s fine. Though this – “Make divisions more reflective of player skill”, must be looked upon much better, as at current state the divison system is like a side reward track.
Please, If i’m bad make the system say me about that. Keep me in ruby If I don’t deserve more. I know it is a bit bad for casuals, but maybe let them get some side rewards so they won’t swarm the forums with rants?
It’s deffinetly a hard system to create and I’m unfammiliar with other game’s systems alot, but I feel like division means that you are unemployed and loving to play pvp and that’s it.
Awesome to hear that at least they’ve noticed the main topics that annoy people, however hearing that it’s not going to be in S4 is really disappointing. If Season 4 isn’t at least an improvement in matchmaking over S3 it’s probably going to be the deathblow for PvP in this game.
Right now there’s enough of the community left that a good season should trigger a resurgence, but I feel if S4 is as disappointing kitten then the mass exodus is going to be too big to recover from.
One positive is that class balance is the best it’s been for well over a year in PvP, although there are still some significant problems remaining.

When people say “class balance” what they mean is “class representation”. “Balance” straight up is a mess (power creep, elite specs, bla bla). People are just happy that all classes are present and accounted for (first time ever). People are unhappy with the messed up way in which classes perform in the game, however.
Representation = good
Balance of represented classes = bad
generally speaking.

Balance within classes is bad, agreed, but there are 8 classes with top-tier builds, that have counterplay against each other to greater or lesser extent, and the one that isn’t (guard) is just waiting on some needed nerfs :P So class balance is the best it’s been since well before HoT.

I’m not going for the legendary backpack, as I enjoy the pvp for what it is and not the shiny at the end. An idea tough would be to acquire the backpack by two means.
- Fast way : crossing the division → representative of the level
- Long way : “legendary commitment” achievement → representative of the investment, like a participation in 1000 pvp games.
You could change the color of the backpack a little bit, depending on the way you get it, so you would have two different kind of prestige.
I’m not bothering with sPvP in this game anymore. I didn’t always hate sPvP loved it during the ranked events before this leagues shenanigans came out. sPvP in GW2 used to be my goto in that regards. However saying that I refuse to be someone’s else babysitter because because I’m a solo queuer. I don’t pay ANet to make me a babysitter to carry Players with no experience/Feeders against teams that are beyond superior to the one I’m on.
I’ll stick to actually competitive PvP games where if players start trolling or feeding the other team points/wins, and or kill/levels they get suspended from the ranked queue for such behavior that is unacceptable in a competitive ranked pvp environment.
But at least I admit it!
PoF guys get ready for PvE joys
