How's it possible that matchmaking got worse?
Thank god its not only me. Ive played perhaps 40-50 games today.
Ive had maybe 13 or so good games. Rest was losses.
The losses usually consisted of people quitting, afking, not listening to instructions. Zerging. Kept running 1v4 and dying. Did not defend. Do not communicate, do not stomp, do not ress. Its been a horrible experience and I have to admit that after the 30th loss I became really salty. Heck I think watching liveleak would cheer me more up.
Not a good day tbh.
I noticed over the weekend, that I’ve been having pretty bad match-ups. Whenever I’m trying to commuicate with the team, they just flat out ignore most of the time, especially in Stronghold.
I think I’ve had 2 games where 1 player actually worked with me and helped out. At the start of the game, I’d say “I’m going to defend, anyone else going to come whilst the others attack?”. They don’t listen or make a suggestion, instead they all just run straight to the supply and start fighting.
I’m usually a very calm player that doesn’t get angry when losing, as that’s part of the game, but man this weekend has been awful. One clown on my team said in team chat “Man we’re losing. Noob team.”, so I pointed out to him, maybe we wouldn’t lose if he’d communicate instead of running around like a headless chicken and actually listen. Ironically he was only rank 17.
Went a bit off topic there, but yeah the matchmaking seems to have just been terrible this weekend for me.
Weird. Mine’s been so much better lately, my overall win percentage is actually starting to improve finally. Even when I get on a losing streak like I did the other day, they were all games that were within 35 points. The number of extreme blowouts has been way down lately (both in my favor and against).
Matches are still bad for me. My ratio has been dropping lately.
I feel like am fighting against high win dragon ranks while I keep getting a team with new players. My latest match up, a player on my team actually said they were new to pvp while if not all or most of the team we were facing were dragons.
Two good matches out of ten isn’t really encouraging.
Thief / Mesmer / Elementalist / Warrior / Necromancer / Ranger / Engineer / Revenant
Crystal Desert – Eredon Terrace – Fort Aspenwood – Stormbluff Isle
Bit hard to make any conclusions over this weekend given it as beta weekend.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
Weekend is over. 7 losses in a row. Most recent game I was put on a team of solos vs. a pre-made 4-man. 3 of the 4 people on my team are on my block list. This just feels like an outright troll.

You got trolled by matchmaking. What a doooshbag. But funny as fuq.

I don’t complain too much about match making.. But playing pvp this week has been really badly balanced. Some of those Rev wins over the weekend I got carried HARD and was basically dead weight as I figured out the class. Then from yesterday and today on my mesmer, I feel like I’m playing my butt off and doing really really well, and my team has no sense of map rotation and is constantly in the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel like I’m playing really, really hard and being dragged down even harder.
Which tool do you use to track your wins and losses like that?

Thanks Emtiarbi. You are a ticklish boogie woogie.
Honestly dunno why there isn’t a stick topic with instructions for API PvP, so good tool!
So I continue to see ridiculous match-ups. For example, my current loss streak is entirely on one individual poor player and/or troll. I keep queuing solo and he’s on my team. I know score doesn’t mean skill, but, uh, just look at this last game. How does this happen?
Carry harder.
His low score doesn’t necessarily mean he did poorly. If he bunked like his name, then he contributed for at least 1/3 of the teams final score.
I wish I run with a bunker. What’s hard is winning with 2 thieves in team. The low scoring people in my matches doesn’t mean they did poorly
I can’t say much about the skill of my team, but I’ve been noticing a LOT of rage-quits this past week, for both teams mind you, not just my own.
Yup ragequits all over the place. I think 3 out of 10 matches are peope just quitting Much fun for both teams. Luckily you wont find them when the new pvp system is implemented. They are gonna kitten eachother.
… for the love of god anet hear our cries about how bad the solo match maker in pvp is … (at least if leaving in competive or afking would be punishable, then i would be glad.)
The issue is that they didn’t fix the core problems with matchmaking. The changed a couple items that didn’t change much.
Until ANET can give solo players an option to only play against 5 other PUGs, it will continue to fail.
Ive noticed REALLY bad matches since the redo on match making.
Horrible matches the past 3 – 4 days…I keep getting 5 – 8 losses in a row and it’s not even close. I am on the verge of stopping pvp altogether and that’s what I mainly do so this really sucks and frustrates the heck out of me.

I’ll share with you exactly what I went through with full transparency
I saw an improvement when MMR update took place and all throughout BWE. On Oct 6, everything took a nosedive to levels worse than pre-MMR update.
Pre-MMR = 49-51% win rate
MMR update and BWE = 65%
Post BWE, Oct 6 onwards = refer to image with this post. these aren’t cherry picked results, It is literally what I’ve been averaging last 4-5 days
I profusely criticize my performance in-game and rate myself as average skilled. However, I’ve been Pvping for years and have a full understanding of map strategies and rotations.
So why the heck have I been getting teamed with the most clueless people that just started Pvping a few weeks ago?
It’s been absolutely deflating and unenjoyable.

Almost what mine look like except my scores were much lower and when I finallyyy got a win, guess what? We won by 2 points…….498 – 500.

I’m going through the same thing. Feels like spvp is almost unplayable.

Just thought I’d point this out that low score means nothing. If I play bunker I want to be the lowest score. If I have the highest that means my team or myself isn’t doing its job properly. Score doesn’t take in account holding a cap, healing team or removing conditions.
Granted the player in the screen is a warrior, so not sure if that holds up at all.
Unfortunately, Wolf, I guess I should have been VERY clear. I play a bunker. That was my score. And again I said I know low score means nothing. But with me bunking, that is VERY telling.
For me match making got worse as well. Just wanted to do necro daily – a class I have played for more than 1000 pvp matches. Well I had to do 10 matches for that daily which really sucks as I have played as always not changing builds or anything. The two games that we scored only 1xx points was with a team mate not able to score a single point even if he was trying.
I really felt like not logging on the game again last night. Another bad losing streak from solo q. Like others have mentioned, it feels like it always puts you in with the new PvPers, then puts you against dragon ranks.
I’ve noticed that I always get matched up with duplicate classes too, such as 2 Thieves, no Elementalists, but the enemy team ALWAYS has at least 1 Elementalist, sometimes they even have 2.
I don’t blame the new PvPers, they’re new and learning the game, but it’s really frustrating when you get teamed up with people that just run to the enemy home node, get killed, don’t defend home or mid, don’t listen to instructions etc. There also seems to be a lot of quitters/AFKers.
A Thief decided straight away that the game was lost. Right at the beginning of the game, literally right when the game started before any nodes had been captured, he/she just said “I hate this game”, and just AFK’d at the spawn point.
I love GW2 but this is getting so frustrating, that I’ve considered not bothering with PvP anymore.
I get the feeling that this game wants me to lose or something. Game after game… lose.
Too many wins still.

Guys Im sorry about matchmaking sucking this bad. What I do is switch between ranked and unranked if I get caught in a bad streak. Believe me, I’ve also been in bad streaks and it puts me in a foul mood I start yelling at everything and everyone including NPCs
Anyways, to turn this around and make some of us a winner, I’ll send 20g to the first person to post a 100% 10 game losing streak.
Cheers

i find hotjoin much moar fun than un/ranked.
-more soloq’rs
-no queue (read u can play right now, not 5+min from now)
-if match is too much a landslide, just leave and find a better server, nothing holding u there to waste your time.
in un/ranked if u get a terrible match up, or 3+ in a row, u are sol an just have to waste your time w/ a losing matchup.
in hotjoin, its up to you, an u can find a good fight eventually. it ain’t perfect, but my time is better spent playing the game on my terms rather than clicking around hoping ‘this matchup will be good, rite?’
These past few days have been absolutely horrible. Even people with “champion” titles on my teams seem to have forgotten the basic rules of sPvP. Meantime, wait times have been longer and longer.
Hmm, well if you guys know your rotations and want to end the unnecessary losses, I can suggest that we hit each other up in-game and team up. It should be drastically better than getting randoms or worse, F2P people. I don’t know, just throwing out ideas coz I love pvp but hate losing when I don’t have to.

I think you’re better off trusting matchmaking than forming a team off of forum participants. Nothing against forum ppl, it’s just that there are no metrics at work here like you do with ingame matchmaking.

Not only am I on a horrible losing streak. I’m still fighting against tourny winners. Wth?
This is not fun.
When I wrote this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/High-MMR-is-punished-for-solo-que/first and followed/documented results for quite a few months, I learned a lot about how the MMR system actually works in contrast to how people believe it works. I also learned that if you want to seriously be heard in your threads concerning something as complex as the MMR algorithm, you need to finely explain yourself rather than make complaint posts. Hey! I am not trolling, I am just trying to help as I was in this same position earlier this year and put a lot of effort in to making the above thread heard.
If you want to really figure out what is happening in the MMR algorithm so that you can understand what is happening to you, try to read and understand this in application to your own experiences: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm This is also important when posting documentation of “what is wrong with the MMR algorithm” or “why is this unfair”.
A few things to remember about the MMR algorithm:
- You will lose more often than you win if you are running solo ques due to being placed against duos, trios or premades who are on TS but you are not. You will also lose more often than you win if you create premades but no one gets on TS because the server will try to find other premades to pit you against and 90% of other premades are using TS. In other words, do not expect to go above 50% while running solo que, it is not realistic now that solo and team have been merged.
- The old MMR algorithm of trying to find players who are similar to your skill to put you with and against is long gone. Do not expect to be with or against players of your similar skill level as a-net has decided on a new system to decrease que times, where it takes whatever 10 people are queing at the time and tries to allocate the player’s MMR levels in to two different averaged out teams. There are many problems with this… if you read the first link that I posted all the way through, it explains most of them.
- The MMR algorithm also works as such where it creates a Team A of higher MMRs that goes against a Team B of lower MMRs that have currently been outperforming their current MMRs and the server is giving them a chance to fight higher MMRs to be able to raise their MMRs. This is also well explained in the first link posted if you read through it. This explains a lot of lose streaks because the system is giving you “your chance” to fight higher MMRs for many matches in a row. This also explains freak win streaks when the server is repeatedly pitting lower MMRs against you, to give them their chance.
- The most important thing ~ The above listed three, widely explain what is wrong with the merging of solo and team ques for how this MMR algorithm is supposed to work. I’m not sure what is going to change with leagues in HoT but for those who don’t play leagues and that remain in unranked/ranked or whatever new system they devise, it needs to be tweaked for more balanced team placements concerning solo ques. The real answer, is bringing back solo que, eliminating all duo, trio, quad ques and forcing people to either solo que or form a full premade for team que. This is the only way that matches will ever feel balanced, regardless of if you are solo or full premade. Why? because it will finely separate the world of voice chat advantage from those who are not using voice chat.
I have personally experienced much much better match making since the patch but I see that many people are reporting that it has actually gotten worse. The only way that the community can figure out why this is happening, is by documenting and posting results. Evan said himself in a different thread: “We have a lot of data we can look at, but without players having gut feelings and ideas of things that could be wrong, we have no idea where to focus our efforts.”
~ Just post your gut feelings and ideas with accuracy and data
you can’t document anything because you can’t see mmr of players. Now dev need to check every single report, what is just plain stupid.
I also have win/loss streaks i suspect that mmr is jumping too fast and after streak of wins you just become best mmr on your team and you need to carry 4 players, that result in another streak but this time lose streak and so on and so on…
We have beta season from can’t remember when and AN can’t share data like mmr for better analysis.
Playing most of the classes for me is ok with the current MMR – win/loses near 50% ratio. However, for some reason, it has been extremely hard win with thief class. I am far from being the best thief of the game, but I am not the worst. It is noticeable that I always got in the weaker team composition.
Same thing I noticed. Why doesn’t Anet lock out solo queueing if you have to be extremely lucky to win anyways? Losing 5-10 times in a row and getting into teams who don’t even respond in teamchat or know the maps became normal for me. I am forced to play foefire and waste hours on losing. What is the reason to let premades battle complete randoms anyways? How could anet ever balance those matches? Seems like those ‘fixes’ broke PvP.
It wouldn’t be so bad, if the waits times weren’t so horrible. It seems that the longer you wait the more likely you are to be on a bad team.

I also have that same conclusion when I queue solo
fyi the point of the matchmaker isn’t to make you win, saying “my w/l rate went down” is not a valid supporting argument for the matchmaker is broken.
That said I do think there is a issue, but it’s not a issue with the amount of losses, but rather the fact that losses always come in large streaks.
We as players invest ourselves in the game, losing a match is a direct hit to our self image, (rather we realize it or not) losing leads to a negative game experience. This is normal and wouldn’t be so bad if losing was regularly broken up by the “high” that comes with winning.
Unfortunately the current MM likes it’s streaks and losing match after match leads to a punishing experience rather than a entertaining one.
I think that if Anet is determined to keep the enforce 50% W/L part of the MM, they need to at the very least have a conditional that after so many consecutive losses, the MM must place that player in a favorable match regardless of how high that player’s W/L ratio is.
Although really, I don’t understand why the MM is trying to enforce a 50% W/L in the first place, since it really doesn’t make any sense from a competitive standpoint.
Honestly the MM should prioritize having matches where teams are of equal average skill, and then (if possible) try to make matches where there isn’t any overly large differences in skill between individual players.
YouTube
I don’t think the losing streak would be so bad if they were 450 to 500 losses. I think the problem is there’s a lot of blowout matches which basically means matchmaking isn’t working at all. We’ll see if leagues fixes it but I doubt it.

I’d like to elaborate on this as it is a point made that I’ve thought a lot about myself and never really voiced it in a thread yet.
Yes, the MMR system is too focused on forcing the 50% win rate. This creates an effect where you feel like the server is choosing when you win and when you lose. This is why we get freak lose streaks and then turn around and get freak win streaks. This often makes players feel like skill is irrelevant in a given match because the server is choosing that you are on a good team or a bad team. In my opinion, this entirely defeats the purpose of an MMR algorithm to begin with and it plainly isn’t fun when you know you are being set in to a bad match rhythm and must wait until the lose streak ends before you can play a reasonable match. At this point players ask themselves: Why am I playing pvp in a game where the server chooses when I win and when I lose? This isn’t good for any type of competitive entertainment. Competitive entertainment is exciting BECAUSE you aren’t sure who will win or who will lose. When you clearly know if someone will win or someone will lose, it becomes boring to play or even watch. I feel this is a good statement to more finely detail the many brief complaint statements posted in this forum concerning why people stop playing spvp in GW2. Again, they all get tired of knowing they are on some server set lose streak. Even win streaks don’t feel gratifying when you know the server is… giving it to you.
Arena-net needs to elimate the Team A and Team B placement system entirely and as Crinn said, focus more on simply matching balanced MMR team vs. balanced MMR team. Let the win rates sort themselves out, like every other game does. People would honestly have much more fun with a win lose win lose scenario rather than win win win lose lose lose. Knowing the server is allowing you to win or making you lose is no fun.
during this last week my matches are kinda good. I’d say 50/50 w/l with all matches around 400-500 points in both teams.
Dunno :/
Wat r u, casul?
