Each time I enter a free tourney match I get pretty much the same teammates and the same enemies. They’re about 100-200 people doing that format, and it didn’t me a long time to pretty much remember them all. Meaning: tPvP is dying quite rapidly.
Paid tournaments obviously failed, as Anet’s super optimistic and quite ridiculous expectations failed. They thought that “good” teams would play paid tourneys and “bad” teams would stay on free tourneys and practice there. That, of course is not the case. Most of the day the paid tourneys are dead. All the “good” teams farm free tourneys so they can rank up as fast as possible. “Bad” players just get their dailies and they’re gone, as there’s simply no point. Trying to save PvP by adding an daily achievement to it is just sad and fail in so many ways.
However, luckily for Anet I’m here to solve their problems. Or at least tell them how to solve them.
1. Add “LFG” system as soon as possible. After all, it is a tournament and it should be somewhat organized. Other aspects of the game need the same (dungeons for example).
2. IF POSSIBLE combine US and EU servers, there will be more variety and less “dead hours” on both regions.
3. Change how glory/rank is awarded on points capturing. Don’t make everyone stand on the point for no reason just so it’s captured so everyone gets their rank points. Simply make it like any other event, if they were there for 1-2 seconds let them be awarded with points, let them play to win instead of playing for rank. Current situation is: point is empty, there are no enemies nearby, but somehow 3-5 players seem to be at that place: instead of letting 1 capture and rest moving on, everyone will stay on the capture point to get their points.
4. Have first round matchups to depend on the number of friends joined. For example, if one team is organized as they’re 5 friends, they should fight the similar team in the first round, while those who entered alone and got random people who also entered alone should fight the team that is similar to them. That will give them some wins at least and motivate them to keep going. Final match will still be interesting, as after all, both teams who got there earned their 2 wins.
5. Keep in mind that when you do introduce “LFG” system, there will be more people playing paid tourneys, so you might want to balance rewards for both types a bit more.
6. Stop slacking and being lazy and doing the easy updates, like changing team colours. Put some work into fixing the format and doing more difficult updates first, instead of cosmetic ones. Fix the game play and serious problems, you can leave other things for later.
7. Hire me.
