I used to be a better player until HOT hit
Dude, it’s okay you’re just getting old. Coby has the same problem.
Just kidding on a more serious note, the Thief and Warrior require a lot of time to master to yield any rewarding play and sometimes it’s not the type of game-play that you’re interested in(thief decapping & warrior run and gun). You said your play time dropped, most likely you will see little to no rewarding play from these classes. I recommend Guardian or Revenant. They easy to learn and have a lot of durability. Go to metabattle they have decent builds that are effective for those classes but I’d also wait for the upcoming balance patches.

Now I main thief and warrior…
Pulling this from your large post.
These are probably the two most under-tuned professions at the moment. I think the vast majority of your problems are probably tied to a situation as simple as that.
If you’re getting frustrated, try a different profession. I know it sucks when your main suddenly becomes a shell of its former self, but it may be a good time to mess around with other professions. Buffs will inevitably come to war/thief, but in the meantime, playing a different prof will make you better at countering that profession when you return to your mains while also giving you a bit more of a competitive edge.
That’s my 2 copper at least. Good luck.
Simply put, wars and thieves are unplayable in pvp at any semi-decent level atm. This is where your problem comes from.
Looking at amount of communication from dev side and their actions so far i highly doubt there is any hope for those 2 classes in the next year or so. Just reroll man :/

Having been at the bottom of the totem pole I think what your experiencing is that all your skill at the classes you main isn’t amounting to anything because of balance. It sucks. Fortunately I was able to fill a niche role as a power ranger until balance shifted back in my direction. The only thing I can suggest is to try and lay thief that way. Thief can work, even if you don’t like it maybe you can learn to like it. Sure it can be unforgiving but it’s really the only option you have besides take a break while waiting for balance.
Am I good?… I’m good.
I don’t remember how to multi quote on this platform.
@IDICERI- Funny cause I almost made a Kobe reference in the original post.
@Cynz- I am gathering that it is a balance issue, but I don’t know how much I should blame on balance. Don’t want it to be an excuse.
@Dahkeus- I am trying reaper for a little bit and may try dragon hunter as well for the experience
@Eurantien- I guess I can find that thief build and force it.
I agree, especially with:
“If the object of the game is protecting a 600 radius node, why does it seem like 60% of skills in this game blanket a 600 range area. Its all bomb and forget. "
“Specializations didn’t make classes more unique, rather it made this more the same.”
“I really wonder if you can actually compete with a full team of non specialized players versus the new stuff. I would love to see this. Probably feel like Vegeta when Goku first went super saiyan. "
That last sentence in particular, haha.
I disagree with you on the trait system,
The idea that we had any control at all about builds before was a illusion. All warriors needed to play 0-0-6-2-6 and this went for eles and so forth. The best builds still had to be a certain trait lien set up.
You can still make burst builds like thief P/P and mesmer PU but there just not as strong just like before in the older days. To me we have just as much ability to make builds now as before. You just felt like you had more options since you could go 0-1-5-6-1-1 instead of the 0-2-5-6-1-0.

Yes and no, I used 06620 as a thief, the usual build for D/D back then was 26600 but mine had different perks.
The problem with the three traitline is that (I have to guess a bit as I don’t know too much about other classes than thief) all the defensive traits are now availlable, wheras classes formerly had to chose between one full defensive and one full offensive line. So what you got is tanks that hit like a zerker. And the stats going from the traitlines into armor alone and how that has been calculated didn’t help with that as well – something there is wrong – damage is too high, tankiness is too high.
I kind of suspect that the reason for the 3 traitlines was that a lot of people (outside of pvp) had useless 22222 builds -but the reason for that might be that we’ve had an really really aweful trait system for a year before that, so people didn’t really have access to all traits anyway. So if this really is the reason for them merging the traits without second thoughts I’m mad.

There was always small things you do like i went 2-0-6-0-6 on my staff ele build with full cantrips but now there are more options. Yes players have alot of sustain with damage and the impossible to kill players.
Though it made it easier for other players to understand. I would just like to point out the viable option builds for a good class like guardian atm. You have the bunker guard with s/f and m/s and using 3 shouts with renewed virtue and shelter. Burn burst guardian and trap DH. This is possible because of the full trait lines. All 3 builds would have to go back to some gimmick form if it was only allowed 1/2 of 2 and need full of 2 and 1/2 of 1.
Some classes got crushed in the new meta. There are still usable builds for them but this isnt cause of the trait system. All builds are not created equal and that was the fact before and now. Also with longer sustains and bigger burst coordinated attacks are alot harder with the amount of weird boons just being thrown out. With a few small tweaks here and there it will be some what balanced. So just imo the new trait system gave more options aswell as a easier way for new players to come in and make at least decent builds without having to go to a outside source.

We might mean the same but that is only our point of view. My buddy ran medi guard with something like 14621 and it worked very well for him. ETA: He also was a bunker guard in PvP and wvw zergs, so he had two builds which served different purposes.
I ran 06440 for the longest time but needed a minor in the third traitline to make my final pre June build work. Don’t know, it felt a bit smarter actually. And minors mattered. But alas, I’m a thief, so the lowest of the low anyway and my point of view is from the bottom.
It’s easier to adjust pure PvE players with that though as they probably wondered why they were that weak.
I do hope anet comes around and balances stuff (after half a year – and if they do it won’t be pretty).
Remember guys, there was the system in which the trait lines provided the stat points as well. So it was also do I want additional power, not necessarily just the power line traits.
I am glad they changed that, because it forced some builds to have a certain playstyle.
But it probably made sense for half of the builds to be associated that way.
J pop (K pop;)), thank you very much for that constructive post about your spvp HoT experiences. This is golden considering the rate of QQ we see around (from all level).
I felt your pain back in 2014 when Bunker guard felt of meta because celestial comp played 3 points. It was hard for me, because I did always choose to support my team and take pride to REZ, Cleanses, Heals, Buff (boons) my team mate since Everquest (I play MMO for 15 years). B Guard is the best for that (even today but lack of HP and sustaining damge is killing it)!
The celestial meta destroyed my team (GGWP). I got push out of it, because guardian was considered useless. We were in the 200 Leadeboard mark for the Skill based one (pre december 2014).
It took a while for me to adapt… my team ask me to play necro, because we had great success with two. (win loose ratio at 75%)
But on the long run, condition 1v1 build was not my taste nor my specialization.
My play style is support. So, I did find Shoutbow in November 2014 by QCom a guy I did meet in BrL Gaming guild. From there, that celestial build was the support I was looking for and I did with BrL kill a lot of people with a great win/loose ratio. (I played with quality players has well, like Demus, Duke, Tron, Hero, Hiro, Vallun, Snuffles and so on…)
What I did learn from this is, that MAIN class is not good. It’s MAIN Role we need to find and be great with. Since then, I played all support build from all classes (in my free unranked time of 2015), including HoT. I conclude that for the best 2v2 scenario, Scrapper bring the most support compare to effectiveness.
I am happy with this choice.
So, can I suggest you to find the new meta build that play like thief (decap and +1 fights), so you can be best with it and feel at home in your team?
So far, Herald or Chronomancer would be the go to for that role.
Another thing, we played together in September-October. You are right, you were less involved in the game. Not hungry like you had been to wins games. This can impact your team more than you can imagine. Team have an energy level, that energy level make it more focus with better drive. When time are hard, some knot of that energy install and are hard to remove or cleanse.
It’s not just classes or builds, it’s your Mind playing with your performance. Take the time to center over what you want and achieve. And put the will into it to make your team better. A little change in attitude bring a lot of great things.
Keep it up.

We are saying the same thing but you dont like it and preferred the small things where as i dont see the difference at all.
I think interupt brought something in i forgot to mention which was stat line boost based on trait lines. Removing that was a great thing to me as well. I think we both understand one another but just have different opinions on it. I can understand though,
good luck
