So this morning I came back off of almost a month long break. I was going to put together a project and track the rating splits of red vs. blue in all of my matches, due to recent threads such as:

Guess what I discovered? Apparently now when you add your team members and opponents to your friends list, it doesn’t show their ratings to you in the league/guilds&friends list. What in the hell is this? It always worked fine before! How long do I have to wait before it displays now? Just long enough for it to be completely inconvenient to track rating vs. ratings or non evidential at all after 24 hours pass and player ratings change? Does no one else find this suspicious? That’s terribly convenient for the purpose of hiding what the algorithm is doing.

Note sure what is going on, anet.
But it looks bad.
If your algorithm is truly doing what it is supposed to be doing,
It’s time to let us see the evidence that is doing what it supposed to be doing.
Because it is in question at this point.

Seriously though, what reason or motive do you have for hiding the history and/or any trails of fact? It’s a bit strange boys.

if a player doesn’t meet the required minimum required games played for a given week they won’t be displayed. The reason why it has worked in the past is either it was before they implemented the weekly minimums or they have met the requirements.

maybe there is a way to get your friends rating from the API.

I tried doing exactly that in S5 but ran into the same issue.
From my experience, recently added friend’s rating has allways been weird and doesn’t work half of the time.

I find your crazy baseless conspiracy theories mildly amusing but it can take hours between adding someone and that person showing up on the friends tab of the ladder. So just be patient?

Baseless? My good dude, people are screenshotting evidence of seriously botched & super lopsided match making, left and right lately. Matches that human eyes can look at and in about 5 seconds, figure out how to better mathematically balance than the algorithm chose to do. You might want to start paying attention to what’s going on around you. Pay attention to the experiences of others, not just your own. That’s called communication and it’s the only way to expose kitten within a system that makes itself difficult to identify to individual eyes. Systems that are not only difficult to identify the misconduct of, but also difficult to provide any proof of legitimacy whatsoever.

You know what I find baseless? Apologists with no evidence. If so many people want to apologize, they need to do it with evidence vs. evidence and not by simply claiming that the evidence and research of others is somehow not evidence at all. Every single time I see the algorithm notes link, it becomes more and more baseless to me. As baseless as a criminal suspect who claims “I didn’t do it” with no evidence, yet he sits in a court trial amongst many people who definitely are claiming that he did do it. Maybe there a couple of those people who know for a fact that he did it because they sat and watched it happen but what hard evidence do they have in this court case outside of a testimony? He’ll get away with it scot free.

Such is the case with whatever is going on with the algorithm. Before anyone else baselessly apologizes for the algorithm and asks for more evidence, consider how difficult it is to provide any evidence at all. Plenty of players have tried to do it but they find that the system has all these little bell curves that prevent an individual from tracking elongated history within the community. Consider that arenanet has hid MMR since day 1 and still does, despite literally every player asking to be able to see it. Consider how many people over the years, have taken their time to come into this forum and say the same sorts of things that I am saying now. I have never seen that in any other game forum that had a ranked system.

Consider just this one thread even https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/matchmaking-algo-BROKEN-w-evidence/first Can anyone provide evidence that this isn’t happening? Because I’m seeing evidence that it is.

There has got to be a way to better track what’s going on, from a player’s point of view. I’ll figure something out.

my dude.

there is a big difference between anet having an incompetent coder, or just deciding on a flawed matchmaking system. & you know, being out to get you personally. via a naughty list.

the former, is pretty believable. the latter though, well let’s just say it makes you look less than sane. so hold off on the conspiracy theories until you have some hard evidence, less you look the fool.

guess it’s a bit late for that though, i mean you’ve made a lot of threads & ranted heavily in them. community sees you as a bit of a joke now.

Never said matchmaking was perfect, only commented on how “anet trying to keep us from seeing the rating of people we add now!” was not true, or at least not intentional.

If the delay itself is intentional it’s probably to prevent bullying before the match even starts.

I’m still not sure why your rating and your teams average rating isn’t shown in matches. I can only speculate that they don’t do this because they’re constantly changing the system behind the scenes without telling us. Almost every other pvp game shows this information so why not GW2…?

I post from a phone so please excuse any references to ducks or any other auto corrections.

Posting this here from another thread because it very relevant:

It isn’t even about one’s own personal experience or perception of their match history. It’s about when one is able to see the bigger picture of how players are being allocated within the algorithm for match making purposes. Even a person who didn’t play GW2, who only watched twitch streams, with enough time, would still identify the problems going on with match making. It’s arguable that an avid twitch viewer who doesn’t even play the game, might actually notice the problems much more quickly than an actual player because they are frequently watching the different experiences of others, rather than only paying attention to their own experience.

Things that the twitch viewer would notice more quickly than a normal player:

  • Why do some streamers frequently get paired with ESL players on their team and often go against randoms and maintain seemingly easy high win ratios?
  • Why do other streamers, despite a high rating, often get paired with complete randoms that must be carried and are often put against teams of stacked ESL players?
Why does this happen so often to certain people but not others?
  • I see players in the stream that I know. 2 are plat – 4 are gold – 4 are silver. Why did the system not make teams of plat/gold/gold/silv/silv vs. plat/gold/gold/silv/silv but rather chose to make a game of plat/plat/gold/gold/silv vs. gold/gold/silv/silv/silv? Why does this seem to happen to certain streamers but not to others?
  • Isn’t this game’s ranked system supposed to be creating balanced matches? is it just choosing when people lose at times? Some of the streamers I watch seem to get much better matches much more often than others. The thief I like to watch seems to often get very bad match making despite being visibly the better player out of all the people I watch. What the hell is going on here?
  • ect.. ect.. ect..

If you really want to see what people are complaining about, you have to start paying attention to the experiences of others and not just your own. Everyone assumes that what they experience during match making is the same as what others are experiencing but that assumption couldn’t be further from the truth. Take a couple days off from GW2 and watch some streams. Start que’ing with different types of players, better ranked and lower ranked. You’ll quickly see what people are complaining about.

I’m not sure if match making is being deliberately tampered with or if the system has some kind of effect with actual MMRs with a bit of Rating and certain target margins between high/low ranked, are somehow being shuffled into favorable rhythms due to how the system uses their rank demographic for placement… but something is wrong with the match making. Some accounts visibly when watching their history, just get shuffled into good or at least balanced matches often, whilst others are repeatedly being given “carry matches” where if they don’t carry their team mates like the god Atlas, they will lose every time. There are people out there with horror stories of bad match making that other players actually don’t believe because they aren’t experiencing such bad match making. You’ve got to wonder what’s going on there.

The proof or evidence that you are asking for is being streamed all day long.
Go watch it. If you can’t do that for the sake of your own opinions, you can go ahead and stop posting in the threads of others who have.
