Is PvP collapsing?
….. And Elementalist.
You don’t gain rank or progress for reward tracks while playing beta characters. ArenaNet intentionally took away any incentive to stay in matches where your team is losing instead of just closing the game for 15 minutes and also took away dishonor.
Getting matched against premades over and over starts to get frustrating. I don’t blame anyone who leaves a terrible matchup.
Sure hope anet fixes this kitten with leagues. But i’m not going to keep my hopes up at all.

Anet is a really poor company that lacks resources to tackle people who misbehave in pvp.
My friends tested it out by misbehaving intentionally for a day straight. Nothing happens if you report or get reported. The report button is just there to scare trolls etc….but it serves no purpose atm.
Imo they should get some more interns….or hire ppl from the community to do it.

Let me be frank. It was 4 matches. Just 4 matches. I once had it happen 10 matches in a row. 10 of a couple thousand. It was not worth a post or a change in action. The sky is not falling chicken little.

What about guys intentionally afking and trolling for a day or more. And anet doing nothing despite the reports?
Not worth a change in action?
It almost never happens to me or my opponents… What bracket are you guys in?

Nope because I will not have him in every match just due to the sheer number of pvp players actually playing. That like buying a taco and you find a hair in it. You choose not to eat tacos anymore though you have had hundreds without incident before. I once cracked an egg and found blood. I was a bit surprised but i threw out that egg and cracked the next one all the same.

Are u telling me that guys at lower MMR are less trollish? :-/
The opposite way around. If you troll and afk much you will get bad mmr, thats for sure.

+1
I’m really sorry that premades have to wait over 10mins for a game before the current system. Feel free to just split up and PuG or just read the forums while you wait….
yes, very much so

Thing is after finally attempting PvP after 3 years at a guild members request today I actually started becoming a little interested in the mode and was having fun…. until I randomly went in alone later.
Getting tossed into matches against higher rank players was annoying, but oh well I’m still getting my feet wet and adjusted to the maps. Having blowout losses didn’t bother me (it was pretty even W/L wise). What got me were the attitudes. It was either outright leaving before the match started, or the complaining and moaning in map chat once the match started going poorly. Frankly got tired of it after only a few matches. Instead of playing for enjoyment I got the feeling the majority of the people just wanted the match over asap to get their shiny at the end.
As of this point if I’m ever PvPing again it’s only going to be with a full group of fellow guild members and with the chat turned off. I have no interest in needing to keep blocking all the Debbie Downers. At least then I know we aren’t going into another 4v5 match and that everyone on my team isn’t going to turn toxic should the slightest hint of things turning south. I would much rather have a good time in TS laughing at each others failures and victories over some drinks rather than continue my experience thus far stepping away from premades.
Hopefully some solution can be found to make both solo and premades happy without a massive increase in queue times. But until that is found I’m sorry to contribute to your frustration.
Maybe you should play ranked instead of unranked.
toxic only happens when the other team is all ele premade or people on your team are doing things very wrong.. it got to me today to the point i left after wasting my time with the last team that wouldn’t listen didn’t fight on point ignored any map pings and the score was 40-400 ish
Maybe you should play ranked instead of unranked.
Ranked or unranked itll be the same story at one point. We’re beating a long known dead horse only Anet can ressurect with a fix.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore

Obviously there is some level of play where this is concentrated if there are people who don’t experience this at all. If anything I should see it happening a lot since I generally run premades and for whatever reason get paired with PUGs.
And these guys aren’t trolls – they are less invested in PvP. I’d say people who are on the extremes (maxed out and just starting) would have the incentive to quit.

Servers are probably a little dodgy ATM. I’m suspecting that one of the reasons they did the HoT beta (especially right after they announce f2p) was because they expected a lot of veterans to return and needed to stress test the server’s capacity. Give it some time, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened :P.
I believe you mean “collapsed”, as in past tense. The player base is in shambles. People queue for Ranked simply to avoid Skyhammer, Courtyard, and Spirit Watch. Most players are there looking for easy PvE loot grinds. From the matches I play there seems to be hardly enough deviation in MMR between the players for the match maker to make any reasonable use of the rating system.
Dead PvP scene is dead. All hail the casual players.

Of course the attitude is bad. When I played GW1 RAs, I very very rarely heard any complaints about balance, and overall hostility was uncommon even in maps like Fort Aspenwood.
But in GW2, you can’t blame players for having a bad attitude when they queue solo and end up against a full premade, or being salty that they die to 20k+ burn damage despite using all their class’s available condi removal. Especially when ANET has been so silent about balance. And this has been a pervasive pattern. Elementalist dominated for so long, turret engis broke low to mid pvp, shoutbow warriors with regen from healing sig, lower tier classes (rangers, mesmers, and necromancers) barely getting by. Don’t forget the supply of bugs. I don’t know any class that doesn’t have at least one bug still around since release. All this while we wait 3 months for hamfisted balance changes, most of which don’t address the real issues? Yeah, that’s gonna cause some angst.
And it’s not just overall balance and Soloq. I can’t tell you how many battles we fought with the devs. For example, having a bank and TP in the Mists. Man, even getting any kind of meaningful reward in pvp seemed to take forever, and we are still fighting about this. SoloQ is an ongoing battle. Getting Skyhammer looked at took about 12,000 threads, Courtyard and Spirit Watch still suck despite all of our feedback, and few players want them in any rotation anyway. Even removing Raid on the Capricorn took a long time and hundreds of complaints.
It’s just hard to shake the feeling that the devs simply don’t care about spvp. Then every few months the complaints get so bad that the devs drastically increase their communication—swearing that it will remain nice and high—only for it to return back to silence. Meanwhile, players only complain to each other on the forums or in spvp map chat, where they are STUCK in queue, which fuels all the resentment.
The worst part is that we have been voicing our concern for years. Here’s a few posts from 3 years back: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/List-of-reasons-why-sPVP-is-the-third-rusty-wheel-of-GW2 or https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Annoying-PvP or splitting soloq and pugs or https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Why-isn-t-Anet-supporting-GW2-like-Valve-did-for-Dota2 or long queues https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/RE-5-minute-wait-time-before-tournament-matches
It’s sad when years later the complaints are basically the same. I’m about ready to give up.
TLDR: Spvp has sucked for a while, it still sucks, and the devs haven’t shown us they care, so why should we?
yes, very much so

I wouldn’t say they “don’t care”. They still pump recourses into PvP and are literally paying players to keep PvP on life support.
I would say, as someone who works in the entertainment business alongside producers directors and other creatives, that from what I’ve seen in the years since launch and the number of changes made to PvP along the way, that those at the top don’t know what to do with PvP. There’s just no real direction and that comes from the top. IMO this is borne out by the fact that they released it as an unfinished product and rather than build upon what they started they continually rehashed and rebuilt square one – what the currency was, the rewards, the queueing structure, rating system and leader boards, etc. They’ve never moved beyond that step. Adding leagues or brackets or tiers or whatever it is will potentially be the first time they’ve implemented a “Step 2” in the building up PvP process. As I haven’t seen exactly what it will entail I can’t say for certain that it is in fact a Step 2 and not just another rehashed Step 1.
Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath.

Maybe Anet just can’t figure out pvp without the help of Morello who is now at Riot. Is it just coincidence that GW2 pvp is a mess and League of Legends is absolutely killing it?

Comparing GW2 to League of Legends is not a good comparison.
No MMO PvP mode will ever come close to a MOBA’s PvP.
MOBA is the definition of PvP: “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena.” There is literally no other content aside from the PvP within the game.
A MMO encompasses so much more than just PvP. There is no way an MMO company will have the resources to balance out PvP when compared to a company that purely develops MOBAs. MMO’s have so much more content to focus on.

I agree with your last paragraph and its one reason why GW2 esports was doomed from the start. I like GW2 PvP and I even like watching it, but more resources need to be devoted to it than Arenanet clearly wants or is able to.
However I don’t think mobas are the definition of PvP, they are a specific type of PvP game but there are a lot of people who don’t like them (such as myself FWIW). There is a market for other PvP specific game types, it will be interesting to see how Overwatch goes just for example.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
According to Anet, PvP population is better than ever. However, they won’t show us any numbers to prove it. Queue times have nearly tripled in the last few months for me so I can’t believe anything Anet says to be true.

One person does not carry a game in development.
If so, then Neopets > WoW

Fort Aspenwood
This is what happens when you solo join pvp.
Find a guild, go in as a group of 5 until Anet fix the Matchmaking (Which iirc, they’re doing in HoT).
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA

Yes but one person can at least set a uniform and organized direction for a company.
ie: solo queue, matchmaking priorities, or how prof balance is implemented.
TBH I was kind of just joking, I really don’t know how involved Morello was at Anet. I do feel like pvp has been a mess lately and they are trying to salvage it with Leagues… we’ll see how that goes.

It matters because you won’t get skyhammer therefore people won’t quit because someone picked skyhammer and won the roll.

a) u’re farming f2p’ers and newbies in unranked, hardly fair for them
b)you’re farming solo q’ers in ranked, hardly fair for them either
c)any sembvlance of balancing teams via MMR is cancelled out due to the formation of a ratsquad
d)people in ratsquads call enemy full PUG teams “noobs” and yet they’re more likely than not trash on their on, but TS and all of a sudden they think they’re esports or sth, jumping over the corpse of the necro that 3 of them took down using “co-ordinated burst”
e) it’s because of ratsquads people move to unranked to avoid the likes of yourself, and end up suffering through skyhammer/courtyard and first time pvp’ers(which i dont mind, if there’s 1/2 of them on each team to make it a fair matchup)

Got the same premade 2 times today. My team droned on about how much they hate getting matched against premades. We had almost the same players on my team both times. We won both times. It isn’t getting a pre made but a good one that simply out ranks/mmr you that is the issue. I hope they bring back solo ques to solves this but I remember the days where people kittened about queue times left and right.
The only advantages pre mades have are comp and communication. While I cringe at the idea of having some high pitched teenager yell in my ear for going far when no one is on it I think in game voice communication could help.

what I don’t get is how playing with friends, who are much lower skill than me (and not in comms) is try harding… we just wanted a match, not a 12min wait…
(edited by RaGe.9834)
soloq fight soloq, premade fight premade. if premades whine about time, tell them to beg others to premake.
However…I find the whole choosing what team you are on, choosing the map, and allowing the viewers to jump intot he game they are watching a problem (they should be tagged to join any game BUT the one they are watching).
We need more random, tossed together, here you are, fight…and less. “this isn’t the map I want” “I couldn’t get on a team with <name>” crap we have now.
