Turret engineers and celestial elementalists are really tough to deal with at the moment.

For engineers, I can only recommend laying some massive aoe before engaging yourself to try and take down some/all of their turrets. Otherwise you’ll just get knocked around like a pinball.

Personally Im not having any issues with celestial eles, if anything they now became viable, (as in noticeable, you know, pay attention rather than ignore/focus fire for 3 seconds and then stomp), although I do agree the healing could use some minor tweaking.

As for the engi, seeing one in a point…./shurgs

Turret engi is pretty easy to deal with. Just ignore them, let them sit on that point the whole match. It’ll be 5v4 and you should win the other points. If the turret engi joins the teamfights, he’s completely useless.

Problem is players dedicate so much time on that point and engi, it throws the match.

engis go down to lots of condis and interrupt their heal/reset sequence.

if you aren’t built to do it, you’re gonna have a rough time in a 1v1 against them.

but i like them as a target because with team focus they do go down, and stability is all that is needed for a guaranteed stomp.

Almost every round I have played this week there was at least one engineer on the enemy team, and all they would do is camp a spot and just stand inside their fortress of machines and cc anything that got close. I have yet to win against them, even with stability and (attempts at) aoe attacks. I am hopeless against turret campers when playing any class…….

PvP has become nothing but some poor sod vs. grenade barrage + rocket turret + thumper turret + flamethrower turret + llama finisher.

The thing that bugs me is not the fact that engineers are tough to take down. It is that every engineer is the same. I would rather see alternative builds for them become useful in PvP, because the lack of creativity amongst engineer players is absolutely appalling…

I wouldn’t mind the turret build getting crushed by nerfs since its only used by bad players as a crutch.

However, it seems these days it doesn’t matter which build engineer uses, there will always be people thinking they are broken, rabid build so stronk bcuz IP mang! (even tho pretty much every class has OP passives for their builds), or “celestial rifle sooo OPPP” the last one is the one i will never understand since celestial rifle is about one of the easier build to 1v1 since all their combos can be easily predicted, the only advantage celestial rifle has over other viable engi build is that it has better teamfight potential and body cleaving power.

Well, Chaith, from my experience perhaps I have had the unfortunate coincidence of running into nothing but turret engis? So maybe instead of jumping the gun, nitpicking my quote, and calling me out as a crybaby, you should consider that there are heaps of people that don’t embrace this build diversity you claim and stick to the ever-popular turret camping technique. I see it in the lobby “lfm 5 man turret team” everyday. I have yet to see one of those suckers roast me with their flamethrower, or smack me with a wrench. Every loss that has been dealt to me by an engineer has been due to turret and grenade spamming. I guess that is why people love turret camping so much.

My perspective differs from yours. Yours differs from mine. I understand there are many builds for engineers out there, especially with being able to switch weapons on a moments notice. I am merely stating that I have yet to encounter this. Maybe you’re just lucky enough to have run into the players that I haven’t.

I think you didn’t get his point. Or you’re actually thinking the ppl on top of the leaderboards are all “top-players”. Because leaderboards require so much skill nowadays right…?

So basically you can’t jump the gun and say “x is OP” because the current top 25 players or whatever are running “x”. No offense, but most of the current top players (according to the leaderboards) are actually trash tier (not all of them, there are some good players in it, but like 95%)

It’s also really amusing to see all those guys trying to defend the new leaderboards. “Oh ye they’re performing better for their team than others…”. Did you ever consider how easy it is to carry a team if your mmr is like really bad?

Basically most of the current “top” player on the leaderboards are trash tier player, slightly better than the trash matched up against them, playing 24/7. Face the truth.

Was slightly offtopic tho.

It’s also quite funny to see all the ppl on forum complainig about engineers. Well i’m fine with that and there probably are some things which have to be done, but engineers aren’t “the most ez to play” profession out there. I think a lot of ppl think so because they’re performing well….in their trash tier rating….

And i really have to laugh out loud if those ppl are refering to turret engineers again. It’s just like saying “Oh look at me, i actually have no clue about this game or engineers, but they’re frckn op because i’m getting rekt by em all the time!”

As an intermediate (mid-30s) ranked non-turret engi, I have to say that most other engis I encounter are turrets. I really enjoy double-kitting with bombs/tools, but I’ve had a few cases where someone on my team would be annoyed that I wasn’t running turrets (easy point holder, right?) I feel like I can hold a point pretty well against many classes played by other players around my level, and sometimes it seems like they will see that I don’t have turrets up an run at me like “oh this will be cake”. [If they are really good, yes, it just might be cake! I will be rooted and cd’d to death in seconds. If they are not, it probably won’t be. Unless they are a terrormancer, then gg.] I feel like I take many players by surprise, to my advantage. On the other hand, when I do win, I feel like i dodged/blocked, or pulled off a tricky magnet pull at the right times, and when I lose it’s because I forgot to switch out of toolkit, didn’t run away from an unwinnable fight fast enough, or something stupid like that.

I don’t like to take on turret engis on my own, but I do love it if I can get him/her to panic enough to drop all the turrets between points—then I run for it. In general I judge how experienced an engi is by how they handle their healing turret—do they pull off the tricky burst heal? Or do they just set it and forget it? I do hope turrets get toned down in a future patch because multi-kit engis are much more rewarding to play, and I feel all-turret builds don’t give new engi players a chance to really experience that.

I don’t count Supply Crate. I have seen some players whip out Mortar instead.

I’m not trying to insinuate that every single engineer in the history of GW2 is a turret camper. I made a mistake when I said “they are all the same”. I was merely expressing my collective experiences with battles against engineers. Maybe you’re not having the same problem that I am having. I am very well aware that there are other builds out there… I just have yet to see them for myself.

I have leveled two engineers to 80. So, I am at least familiar with the weapons and skills of the class. I’ll admit, despite playing since launch, I only started playing pvp about two months ago. Am I an expert? Hell no. Am I ignorant? Definitely not. I try my best to pay attention to how I die. I even spectate battles every once in a while to see how others play. Isn’t that how people improve their strategy?

Perhaps, you’re right. I am a little bit frustrated when it comes to engineers – they are a powerful class when played correctly. I don’t think for one moment that they are OP. Just annoying.

I play P/S engineer w/ bomb+tool kits because, for my play style, it is the most fun class I have ever played (I have played hundreds of hours in wvw/spvp with every class except ele, guardian, and ranger). Last week, to see what the fuss was all about, I tried turret build and cele rifle build for a few games and I do agree that they should get a little nerf. they are not terrible overpowered, to be honest. rifle build really is just due to celestial amulet needing a nerf, imho, while turret build is just kind of stupid. You sit on your point the whole game. If the enemy team is smart enough to avoid you, it’s a 5v4 game (and you’re not really useful if you decide to move out and join in somewhere else), otherwise you really don’t do much other than sit there and wait. Unorganized teams usually come 1-2 at a time and the turrets take care of business for you.

TL;DR: slightly nerf celestial amulet and utility turrets to get all engineers build on the same level
