Engineer are good in solo q but not in competitive play. As Super already said the problem is the sustain. If you want to have good utilities, no other class can offer, you give up stunbreakers.

In addition you have classes with alot of condi cleanse or even condi immunity.
In combination with the high stability uptime the former best 2v2 3v3 class became mediocre (you simply cant stand on the note if there is a warrior around) because engi was always a little bit tricky in large scale fights

But the real problem I think is that engis are the only class with a real hardcounter in the game. Everybody know what happened to Mesmers in SD thief meta and that is exactly the same for engi’s since necro’s got buffed.

I mean that is not a problem in soloq because you dont get focused so hard but in competitve play you just run away for chasing mesmers and thieves and which can pressure you from distance and if you get caught by a fear, pindown or hammer stun you are almost dead. That’s making engi a still good 1vs1 class (you can beat every class except necros) but already at 2vs2’s you come out on the short and because there are better options available.

It’s just you bud.
Have still to lose a soloq on mine though^^

Weird …. doesnt show you on the leaderboard (top 1000). When ppl win a lot in a row they tend to end up in the top 100 quite fast in this game.

u pretty sure m8?

Yes engineers are ruining PvP. Have actually done a team que againts 4 turret engis all running accelrant packed turrets and the turrets doing more damage and giving boons. Not only could my team of 3 glass cannons/2 bunkers not kill them their fricking rocket turrets were hitting like a truck. Someone wearing a soldiers ammy should not be hitting that hard. If you want good damage you should sacrifice if you want tankiness you shouldn’t do that much damage. People should not be able to get the best of both worlds unfortunately hambow warrs and decap/turret engis get both. This is wrong and needs fixed/nerfed.

In my experience Engineers can be extremely problematic for certain builds, depending on how they’re built. Lots of engi builds completely screw melee builds, some can sit way off-point and just laugh at bunkers, and bunker engie can survive way more than seems fair, but all of these builds have their counters and weaknesses.

Most of the bunker-smashing builds are easy to kill, bunker engineers can’t handle mass conditions, etc. etc.

If what you do doesn’t work, figure out the build that killed you (ask if you have to, sometimes people will straight-up tell you what build they’re running) and figure out what it can’t do.

So, in this thread the concern seems to be that Engineers – being one of the most AoE-happy professions – are now overpowered because of the preconception that one must stand and take it like a champ. I am rather puzzled by this, given that every single one of the successful engineer builds I’ve used, and seen used revolve around withstanding burst and overloading the opposition with CC/conditions. After countless threads defending power/crit burst in this game, people are surprised that this playstyle is successful. It’s just hilarious to defend close point with a PVT bomb/turrets engineer and watch a thief try to figure out why they couldn’t kill me while standing in a smoke field.

Engineers excel at area denial against uncoordinated players.

Players are more likely to stand in points because it’s what you have to do to win games.I don’t think they’d be OP anywhere else.
