As much as I had fun trolling with the unkillable tank tempest build (deleted ammulet), my mains are mesmer and warrior.

Healthy gameplay is great, amd I miss playing my warrior, I want to enjoy berserker in pvp. You’ve probably read all the threads and have seen the overall lackluster performance of the profession in pvp, let’s make warriors great again!

That is why I used the term “balance” instead of buff to be safe because I’m not asking for warriors to be the surpreme beings in pvp like when shoutbow was dominant. I’m saying that warriors deserve better than this, they DESERVE options and to be viable. I’m not rerolling, my warrior is my oldest character and should not be punished for wanting to play this profession.

Glad we’re on the same page! I love warrior because I miss the versatility they were once known for, which was mostly passed to guardian (they surpass warrior in condition, power damage and bunker builds let’s face it).

I’m really glad guardians, rangers, necros and mesmers have more options, let’s just not forget about warrior too, the versatility was what got me into warrior. A heavy warrior shouldn’t be this frail hit and run profession, it should be an honorable, durable, but most importantly, a reliable choice.

That topic is debatable, alot has been said but it comes down to a few things:

-Fast hands, we need it baseline more than ever

-All warriors are shoehorned into taking Defense and Disipline to be almost viable, the traitlines have plagued us since the june patch and cripples berserker versatility. We need more options, more traits for banners, more options for burning, more options for power builds who like rifles and stuff

-We are forced to take endure pain and berserker’s stance, period. It’s a serious problem.

-Berserker can’t burn as well as it wants to, people should be terrified of burning. A single stack for each rage skill just doesn’t pack a punch. Things like auto attack burning on longbow (burning arrows), maybe even two stacks of burning per rage skill used with the right trait, things like that. Those are just examples for better thoughts.

We have a profession that is shoehorned into two traitlines and two utilities, requiring very specific trait choices with not enough options.

1.2x shout heal and banner regen heal.
Warhorn converts 2 conditions into boons.
Skullcrack to leap skill.
Entering berserker mode at 2nd level of adrenaline level.
1.2x healing signet
Leg specialist to multiple targets plus 2sec of immob
rifle basically pierece without trait
All primal burst skill have CC, at least daze level.
Faster signet skill recharge.
Fast hand and adrenaline gain on weapon swap in base line.
Permanently being able to keep adrenaline when not in combat.
Banner grants protection with regen plus 900 range and 90sec cd time.
Banner’s sprint has 1200range mobility.
boon duration from Battle rage signet to 40sec.
Battle standard takes takes 1sec to cast
Dodge attack (reckless dodge) to base line.
Torments to AOE.
less recharge on whirling axe.
Mace counter instantly casts

Not bad ideas, I’m not a professional at balancing or anything, but even brainstorming will help give good ideas for the overall final product of warrior and berserker.

If Engies can have 500 Toughness just from getting hit. I’d say 200 Toughness is perfectly reasonable.

Keep in mind when we make suggestions here there are no wrong answers, this is how you come up with ideas on how to balance the class.

Agreed, I persoanlly think it would be cool to see more traits benefiting banners, fast hands baseline seems appropriate for a weapons master.

Oh, that’s fun. Probably reduce it though, an extra 750 Healing Power at 25 Might would be insane.

The biggest issues I have with Berserker are the design of the Berserk mode itself and the lack of real utility on most Rage skills.

I would make Berserk something like this:

  • You no longer have normal burst skills.
  • Berserk has no CD, still needs full adren to activate. Maybe require more adren than currently?
  • When you go Berserk, you get access to Primal Bursts. Using them drains a percentage of your Berserk bar. Landing a Primal Burst refunds some of that adrenaline. Adrenaline SLOWLY drains while going Berserk. Bursts like LB will need to hit something to refund that adrenaline.
  • A good Berserker who lands their bursts will stay Berserk, missing is punished.

As for the Rage skills:

Sundering Leap: Make this skill able to leap up certain Z-axis spots. That utility is often times more valuable than any Endure Pain. Evades while using. If it can’t be made to leap up Z-axis then reduce the CD fairly significantly.

Shattering Blow: It would be cool to have this skill last longer and have an animation that has you stomping the ground and smashing the rocks for around 3 seconds while reflecting. If not maybe have it root you and block from the front for a longer time.

Wild Blow: Just needs usability changes I think. Try 300 range and see how that works. Maybe try unblockable? Taking an offensive utility is a big sacrifice for a Warrior and the animation is long enough that you can counter it in many different other ways.

Outrage: Fine as is.

Head Butt: Solid Skill, but the range still feels wonky. 300 might be too much but 180 is barely melee range and it just feels weird.

Blood Reckoning: Dear lord is this heal bad. The increased crit chance idea is cool, but it still doesn’t heal for much even if you land a bunch of hits. Warrior doesn’t have a pulsing heal like Troll Ungent. Maybe make it pulse fewer times and keep the crits healing you and crit chance aspect but tone down the current bonuses as needed.

Berserker Traits:

A lot of numbers may need to be looked at with my proposed functionality changes to the Berserk form, but none seem too overpowering remaining as is.

Smash Brawler: Berserk wouldn’t have a CD so this would lose half of it’s current use, maybe try making Primal Bursts remove blind?

Dead or Alive: This trait seems like one of those where it’s either too weak or too strong. The amount it heals you for isn’t that great, but any higher might be too much.

Eternal Champion: Might be too good with my suggested changes. It would be cool to see a break bar on this and tweak to where you can resist a few CCs but not be almost immune to them for a potentially long time.

Now for the “fun” part, base Warrior.

Building Momentum: Gives a pathetic amount of adrenaline. Imo it was fine pre-“fix.”

Distracting Strikes: Some cool synergy with the Mace Primal Burst, but in the pre-spec patch preview it also gave Might, I think that would make it more worthy of a GM spot.

Thick Skin: I agree with the idea of bringing back Turtle’s Defense.

Inspiring Banners: Bringing back the CD reduction would be a good start. I would almost say swap it’s position with Burning Arrows because if Shouts ever get reverted to their old heal values War might become a bit too tanky.

Fast Hands: Needs to be baseline. You can argue all you want that other classes have 10 second weapons swaps, but they also have other class mechanics and weapon CDs that justify it. Warrior weapons are designed around rapidly swapping. Other classes suffer from mandatory lines, we know, but don’t get mad at Warriors for wanting to get the same treatment Mesmers did with IP.

Well, there you have it. The current War/Zerker has made me really regret having ever picked War as a main. It’s been a emotional rollercoaster of buffs and nerfs. It feels like the designer of Berserker didn’t have much love for it. I put a lot of work into Burr and now I just sigh when I play him on Zerker.

A lot of great reviews on the forums, a lot of reviews on popular streams and decent amount of reviews from players that mains other proffesions saying the same thing: warrior needs rework. Anet reaction: 00000000000.
Patch after patch you’ve killed us bit by bit, now you’ve burried us too. I won’t start with wthat warrior needs, there are pages and pages of feedback, but I still main my warrior, I still have hope. Dieing hope, but still hope.
Please Anet, I’m fed up with getting flamed in PvP cuz playing warrior. PLEASE !!!
We don’t want OP warrior, we just want a viable one, we are liability!!!

fast hands need to be baseline.

adrenaline gain when you are attacked needs to be baseline.

other changes, especially something to get us out of tripple stance would be dope, however- those two traits need to be baseline. two forced trait lines mean you have to give up 20% damage for a power zerker build, and its just not worth it.

I agree with you all. Before buffing berserker they needs to address the base warrior dependency to our 2 big trait line. Or they will face the same issue on future elite spec.

IMO take what the base warrior needs from the traits, buff the base warrior with it and reduce the traits gain so that it balance out. Understood, I have a feeling they will address warrior this week. As much as I would love them fix this right now, I can also understand they can probably only fix a few things at a time right now with so much going on with the new expansion and trying to see how things play out.

I think berserker could take a lot of inspiration from the elite skill rampage. Obviously not that powerful, but the concept. Imagine going berserk does a few things like maybe reduce incoming damage by 10%, increasing damage, changes that would make someone fear berserk mode. People fear reapershroud because of it’s general tankiness and damage, Berserker should be the same.

I agree with you all. Before buffing berserker they needs to address the base warrior dependency to our 2 big trait line. Or they will face the same issue on future elite spec.

IMO take what the base warrior needs from the traits, buff the base warrior with it and reduce the traits gain so that it balance out. This will open build diversity and then they can change berserker. I guess they will either nerf all elite of buff all basic class so they are on equal if they are serious about esport

Pretty much, even though I’ve heard a lot of variations of problems, the major ones come down to this:

Warrior is locked into taking two traitlines (defense and displine) to be remotely useful, and they’re generally locked into two utilities (endure pain and berserker’s stance). Remember when warriors in pvp could run all banners if they wanted? All stances? All shouts? I’m not saying things like shoutbow need to be as strong as they were pre june patch and dominate the meta, but a warrior deserves to have options that are not outclassed.

I’d almost be okay with a class redesign at this point. One huge issue with warriors is that their mechanics are predictable and easily countered because they’re completely one-dimensional. Everyone knows exactly how a GreatAxe player will play, often using shield4 into HB, or a Hammer/GS working similarly with a stun into HB.

Success on a lot of warrior builds requires your opponent to just not be paying attention. That should never be the case. Warrior abilities need to not be so straightforward and one-dimensional. Necro GS is a great example of how to design a weapon. Huge cleave on their 1, great two-dimensional mechanic on 2, debuffs on 3 with great damage, 4 is a good AoE field that they can bait people into sitting in to do passive damage while they combo something else with it, and a pull on 5 that also debuffs.

Why is it that warriors can’t get anything but absolutely straightforward damage abilities? GS has a single Vuln stack and a cripple. Necro GS has two chills, 12 stacks of vuln, blind and cripple.

I get that warrior is supposed to be the class that you shove all of the mouthbreathers into, but that’s not how it actually works. The class isn’t just morons playing it, so why restrict it so heavily to such simple gameplay? We used to be able to use finesse to counterplay or outplay opponents, or play a support role to help teammates while still being viable ourselves. Now? Other classes have so many options that we can’t reasonable finesse anything without being locked down, bled down, chilled to death (making many of our cooldowns even longer) or just bursted down because we have no real defense.

You gave every other class an elite spec that is fun to play, versatile and multi-dimensional. You gave warriors another regular spec that has no real synergy with other traitlines, is still very one-dimensional, mediocre damage and very long cooldowns. Three seconds of burning on a 20/25s CD when the build is built around burning? kitten you.

One foot out the door, yet again.

No actual changes are needed. Just revert skills back to approximately 16 months ago when warrior could;

1) Go axe or greatsword for power builds.
2) Mace/hammer for control gameplay.
3) Duel sword/longbow for condition builds.
4) Hambow was strong, aggressive point control.
5) axe/shield-sword/mace- could be used for a balanced “something for every situation.”
6) Banner/shouts could be used for a healing support build.

It is one thing to talk openly about balance, but currently warrior doesn’t really have any builds to balance. The more important step is give them builds back.

It all boils down to our dependency on other trait lines. We can’t run dps without strength line or else we lose dps. So we are forced to drop other lines. Problem is we can’t drop discipline or we get stuck in one weapon set which is death for us. So we have to drop defense line, which makes the risk/reward ratio too far into risk and we’re better off playing a different class like Rev or DragonHunter that has sustainable dps.

I use dps as my example here because that’s what berserker was supposed to help us do. Not to mention the fact that our support is laughable next to the other big support classes in the meta now

I think we’re agreed on trait line dependency but other than that I think concerning berserker spec:

- Berserker mode to be able to activate with two bars of adrenaline

- Make Rage skills more useable by maybe adding condi removal to some of them maybe outrage? Like remove adrenaline gain on it and have it remove a few condis instead?

- (inb4 flamed) give us bonus damage reduction while in berserk mode. We do more damage in it sure but what historic berserkers are easier to kill while in berserk? None. Some would get drunk and use that to negate pain or would condition themselves against pain. Point being maybe some passive toughness or bonus regen?

It’s ironic because I’ve mentioned this in another thread, but guardian is a pretty simplistic profession too. Both are very straightforward in their designs, but one profession should not be handicapped/punished for it’s own mechanic.

If for example I take away strength (the best option on average) I will still do more damage without this line despite the attack speed increase and quickness not to mention now rampage has an increased CD. Arms is still better for condis, tactics is still better for support and so on. The only possible fit I could find for this specialization is a rifle build. Another issue I have ran into find and time again is the limited supporting aspect of warrior, it would be nice to at the very least get rolling protection when in berserker and maybe even give it to allies. When I look at reaper or revenant I get sick to my stomach! They have it all from the zero still face roll ability to play to the unkillable 1v1 and team fight capability. I could sit here and give a thousand suggestions… But we all know how that’s going to go. Something needs to be done and quickly, my team already feels I should switch from warrior. I’m not asking for perfect team fight,1v1, plusing, sustain capability like rev scapper reaper ele and even to an extent druid got I’ll settle for just one role, just something ANYTHING!

If warrior could have received even the slightest up time on protection, health bonus, rolling healing, more utility, damage increase or SOMETHING berserker may be worth running but as it stands it is just the most unnessary spec to even consider. I can’t believe they went with 14% more ferocity over a power boost for example, every warrior knows that power scales far better than ferocity! Even to look at the berserker runes and see condi and power made want to throw up. That combination with such limited condi supply that requires you to be within 130 range of your opponent is useless. This means the only way you can make a somewhat decent condi build you would have to drop defense which would be fine if YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO ALWAYS BE WITHIN 130 OF YOUR EMENY TO DO DAMAGE! Give more skills like revenant where attacking=evade frames or blinds, kitten MAKE HEADBUTT AN EVADE FRAME. That thing is sooooo hard to land, i mean 180 range with horrible tracking! How could you ever justify this over rampage!?!?! So much needs to be done….

Rifle is actually workable if you keep distance. Gunflame is effective with Assassin’s Amulet. I’ve had some success with it so far.

Still, we need more, much more.

I agree, in all honesty I actually love the idea behind berserker, it just seems like half an elite spec right now compared to things like reaper or scrapper and even herald.

I feel like warrior balance is just a symptom of ArenaNet’s design falling into the trap of tying complexity and strength together too closely. As it stands, Warrior just doesn’t do enough with its skills and utilities right now, so in order to be balanced its numbers have to be kind of insane. For example, how do you balance a three hit combo that does nothing but damage (most warrior weapon basics) versus ones from a class with comparable base behaviour (revenant) that stacks both torment and poison? What amount of damage can reasonably make up for having little to no utility in a game that’s about highly loaded ‘techy’ kits? The only way is to have the warrior stuff do unreasonable amounts of damage, which is obviously kind of toxic and annoying for people to play against.

It also gives you the other problem of them needing to have certain traits (looking at fast hands especially) as baseline. Warrior skills generally don’t do much of anything but damage, maybe a single effect if you’re lucky, so you need the equivalent of two weapons equipped at all times to reach even a minimally comparable bag of tricks to someone sitting in a single stance with one weapon. Unfortunately, I think the only long term solution for Warrior’s involves a balance pass over all their skills. Personally, I think players looking for simplicity should be able to find it with whichever class they want; that’s what build diversity is about after all. Every class should have some kind of straightforward power-style build available. MOBAs seemed to have learned this as they’ve grown as a genre, but shunting the desire for simplicity onto a single class is just asking for something that either under-performs or chokes out the competition. There’s really no in-between.
