Let's talk about the new patch, here.
Killing off 3 classes is NOT okay. The fact that you people don’t see that is just sad, its literally like i’m talking to a wall. If Anet feels the meta is too stale and boring, they can shake it up in a manner that does not kill 1/3 of the classes in the game. That is poor balance.
I’m out, there’s no reasoning with people that just never understood the meta because they are too busy in bronze running full traps, or dps eles.
I never said that killing classes is a good thing.
This balance patch is a very good beginning. The past 2 seasons were the most cancerous gameplay we’ve ever had since old d/d ele and the meta desperately needed change. You can’t expect balance to work on the first day. Balance is a living thing that has to be adjusted in small steps to reach perfection….which is why ANet’s balance cycle is perhaps the worst choise they could have ever made. But that still doesn’t make this a horrible patch.
All it would need now are at least monthly balancce updated that are just small tweaks. Also what classes are exactly “dead”? Warriors, because they have the loudest forum whiners?
lol the fact that you don’t even know what 3 classes anet killed shows you’re just here to argue. You actually have no idea what the meta was, or is now. Killing off 3 classes is NEVER a good start, I’m done talking to you.
Or perhaps it’s that I am not so ignorant to instantly assume a class is dead because it lost some of it’s comfort.
With all the changes you simply can’t instantly tell what will be viable and what will not. It will take at least a week to see what is working how after this change.
There is also still a big difference between being subpar meta and outright being dead which you can not tell by looking at some patchnotes.
If you claim that you have the ability I can and will not discuss this any further.
Well, in the case of DH’s its not an issue of being a subpar meta class. They are just dead. Demolished. It was one of the few classes “clinging” to the meta as it were, 1 ele just shut it down completly. Now having your damage AND sustain getting absolutly dumpstered, is the very defitniton of a “Dead class”.

Thats why I stated “in the case of the DH”.
Ahhh muffins, are you salty because you can no longer stand still and negate burst damage by using a random passive. poor baby….
Or are you afraid of the big bad wolf con rev, who get’s melted like butter?
After weeks of not playing I ran around all last night with a grand total of one condition removal (SS) on a core zerk thief spec, your all a bunch of drama queens.
This is like the change to the rally mechanic, we had a bunch of Esl players flood the forum because they wanted to keep there advantage vs pugs.
And Then Premades….
and now there precious little passives…
They don’t want balance, they want an advantage.
Man, this is too funny. All this poo-pooing. This patch is a step in the right direction. Elite specs and skills were shaved across the board. That is fine by me! Supposedly that’s what we wanted!
Berzerker….nerfed.
DH….nerfed.
Scrapper…nerfed.
Druid….nerfed.
These are good things. In addition, sigils were reworked or deleted. Cut down the passive bs like Sigil of Hydromancy, which is just plain nonsense. Who the F—- wants to get chilled on swap? Not me.
That being said, this patch is ok, but not great. Necro got buffed too hard. Elementalist got hit too hard. Since defense and sustain also got shaved across the board, I think condi reaper is going to dominate this time around. Ele/tempest is STILL going to be a healbot just to survive. Imo, core elementalist really got the short end of the stick on this one, if anyone deserves to hate this patch, it is them.
Now, condi rev. Not worried about it. Condi reaper and warr will melt them like butter and turn ’em into pancakes.

Well I’ve played my way to plat with dh the last two seasons and I was rather fine with it. Some changes to it were indeed questionable but I highly doubt that it will stop me from playing it. Though I’m already experimenting a bit with core guard again to see how far I can push it.
But perhaps that is only because I wasn’t really playing a meta dh to begin with.
All we wanted was a GvG.
Meta gets nerfed and people always will post how the sky is falling.
I am really happy becouse with this patch i think the game is better. I think anet did a great job and i am serious . I don’t complain at all.
The thief trait ‘Pulmonary Impact’ needs a 5 second ICD… Or Headshot needs to cost 2 more initiative
yeah let’s nerf core spec for no good reason!
They need to undo all the core nerfs that they did at the start of HoT and balance the Elite specs by changing the elite spec only. Or we are going to have worthless cores that only are usable due to the Next elite spec coming out that the game is not ready for.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
I understand why they nerfed alot of the strong options for ele (people always feel like they have to choose those option) but they didn’t give much to help core ele.
My overall thoughts from the percpective of an elementalist is
1. necros have too much boon corrupt/removal options
2. Torment is too affective on revenant
3. Teams with more condi have a distinct advantage (maybe provide better team condi removal)
4. this season is going to be more condi heavy than the last
Bad Elementalist

Edit: A good example of shaking up the meta would if it is too boring would be:
Nerf power rev, buff condi rev.
Nerf meditrapper, buff bunker guard.
Nerf 1v1 warrior, buff other stuff and make it a teamfighter or w/e.This community should not accept them killing off 3 classes just like that because they felt like it, thats stupid. Maybe you like this patch because it wasn’t your class, but next time it might be.
What about the classes that were dead because of those three? Me me me thats all I see here. There is nothing more annoying then people that play the strongest builds and then when they get whacked finally they run around like chicken little yelling the sky is falling. There will never be total balance. If you spend a long time at the top be prepared to spend some time on the bottom. Thats the way it works. Nerfs to Warrior and DH 100% acceptable and needed. Im still not convinced they still arent as good as most other classes. Really most of the classes are totally mediocre right now.

I just logged in to see the “I didn’t play a game in 6 seasons … I won’t play a game in season 7” so called “pro-gamers” cry about a patch, which nerfs the only class they can play with that much play-time.
Balance patches ARE about nerfing some classes, and buffing some classes. I have a screenshot of me playing DH dealing 1,2mio damage in a game. I am glad that doesn’t happen again.
So if you are that “pro”, you should be able to deal with it anyways.
Hillarious every time.
Scrapper…nerfed.
No, they nerfed Protection Injection, a core engineer trait. It is incredibly backward to nerf elite specializations by nerfing core trait skills (essentially widening the gap further between core and elite builds). We want condi engi and rifle engi to be a thing again. This kind of nerf goes entirely against that, and only makes those builds weaker.
The gyro nerf is whatever. Nobody cares about that. You’re still going run two to three gyros this next season because, aside from the Elixir Gun, nothing else is worth using.
(edited by Phineas Poe.3018)
kind of like when they nerfed Healing Turret (0.5s -> 0.75s) to try and address Scrapper sustain and it hurt core engi builds even more than scrapper.
.. or when they nerfed Gear Shield (3s -> 2s) and it hurt core engi way more than scrapper.
.. or when they just broke healing turret altogether in the last patch and now you fail the overcharge half the time when you use it in combat.

The Gear Shield nerf still enrages me. Such a misguided change, and it essentially forces you to take Power Wrench.
Also don’t forget about Automated Medical Response being upped to a 120-second cooldown.
lol this is why all the elite players leave, bunch of noobs on here talking about what should be done and anet listens to them. 3/4ths the people in this thread probably have not made it past gold three. Enjoy the crappy competition tho, I get 1 competitive match out of 5 now. But hey, its balanced, so I guess the noobs are satisfied.

Take care not to cut yourself with that edge, bro.
Terrible patch that again ruins the intra-class balance that they were working on fixing for the last two years after HoT release. I figured their decision making must have been influenced by these three things:
- Possibly devs aren’t playing the game enough or new devs are working on spvp.
- The patch wasn’t for pvp to begin with, it was about pve. If you look at it from a raid standpoint, it all makes sense.
- Dumb down HoT specs so that the new xpack specs are appealing to buy and use. This point here, is right on the money.
Eh, either way this is the type of balance patching we are looking forward to in coming years. ~ Cheers

Lol no this isn’t true at all. They changed epi to allow for counterplay in PvP/WvW. Condi thief got BUFFED while it was already the highest DPS spec in raids making it totally unbalanced.
At this point it should be obvious they just throw darts or w/e and see what sticks. There is no testing or anything.

Let’s see:
Protection Injection—from 5 to 10 seconds
Bunker Down—from 2 to 3 seconds
Compared to….
Med Pack Drop—A buff to Supply Crate that now cleanses condis for your TEAM!
Flame Turret—buffed and reworked
Rocket Turret—buffed and reworked
Thumper Turret—buffed and reworked
Bulwark Gyro—nerfed
Purge Gyro—nerfed
Core engi got some love. Not really widening the gap if you ask me.
At this point it should be obvious they just throw darts or w/e and see what sticks. There is no testing or anything.
I just wish we could at least see the dart throwing event, would probably be more exciting then watching a PvP match.
Best build so far in 2 years… adapt or die. The game was stale and people claimed pvp was dying.. They change it up… now its worse? logic much? So many left the game over that very meta you claim was balanced and good LOL. Too funny. Man the population of this game got so bad defending that previous meta. It was all copy and paste builds and now you need to actually think? Thank god they trashed sigils all of you sheep using the same stuff isnt how a game should stay…. it was extremely stagnant.. Oh and yeah i been around since beta and mostly pvp and wvw. Only thing im a little upset over is Plague but I get over it since im not a cry baby.
Man what happened to actual skill instead of mindless previous meta. Yep it was mindless i actually didnt participate in previous season over how bad it is and was. All the people upset here got carried by builds.
(Oh and i play all classes well except ele which i know got hit sadly with no buffs to compensate for the other nerfs which were needed…. so dont think im some elitist to one)
You said it. This is one of the better patches of the past year or two. It’s actually got me to come back after I quit. It’s got my attention. Not totally on board, though. Only unranked lol.
That being said, I am literally just laughing as I type this. Elite specs and skills were shaved ACROSS THE BOARD. OP sigils were reworked or deleted. And people STILL complain lol. I was a vocal critic of pvp during the past seasons about elite specs and balance and I gotta say, this is a good patch. ANet deserves some credit.

Not to sound like a kitten, but you can’t just check off how many buffs versus nerfs a class receives and think it automatically comes out ahead. But maybe you’re not familiar with the class and the real extent of these changes, so let me explain why none of these buffs are meaningful—at least as it pertains to PvP—and why all of these nerfs are incredibly obtuse and just damage the class in the long run.
First of all, the turret rework is appreciated, but similar to what they did with Utility Goggles a few patches ago by reducing its cooldown, it’s just not enough to make them worth taking over gyros.
Gyros functionally serve multiple purposes:
1. They grant readily-accessible stacks of stability for safe-stomps/resurrects through Final Salvo.
2. With Final Salvo, when destroyed, they activate lightning fields on the ground. Combined with Rapid Regeneration, they effectively heal for over 2K HP.
3. They provide damage.
This is not even getting into the actual utility that Bulwark Gyro, Purge Gyro, and Sneak Gyro specifically provide. Just existing as gyros, they already check off these three boxes … and they can do all three of these things simultaneously.
Now compare that utility with turrets.
1. Do turrets grant readily-accessible stacks of stability for safe-stomps/resurrects? One does: the Thumper Turret. On almost double the cooldown. One stack. For one second.
2. Do utility turrets provide healing? Natively, no. You can get pretty tricky with some of their blast finishers upon detonation, especially when coinciding with your Healing Turret’s water field, but blasting a water field provides only ~1.3K healing before healing power is added in. Not only is this significantly weaker than just blowing up a gyro, it requires you lining up a water field inside the blast radius to get remotely the same utility.
3. Do turrets provide damage? Yes, but unlike gyros, turrets are immobile targets and easily cleaved down and destroyed.
Even before getting into the fact that Bulwark Gyro layers on a 33% damage reduction on top of protection and a five second reflective dome, even before getting into the fact that Purge Gyro completely invalidates Condi Berserker F1 spam and provides one of the largest and longest duration poison fields in the game, turrets are already systematically outplayed by gyros just by the nature of how they’re designed.
This is why adjusting a few values or changing the cooldowns to turrets literally changes nothing, and this is why veteran engineers like myself just want to uninstall this game and play Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds until Destiny 2 comes out. It’s so completely tone-deaf a change and none of these buffs will shift how engineer is played in any significant way.
To really put it bluntly, these changes are literally a waste of development time.
But really, it’s this continual twisting of the knife that really gets at me most, where with each subsequent patch ArenaNet feels the need to just chip away at the foundations of our class, literally pigeonholing us to our elite specialization and its blase, passive-riddled existence.
The nerfing of Bunker Down and Protection Injection is really just another moment in a long sequence of events that has resulted in the status quo, where engineers are completely beholden to gyros, Final Salvo, and Rapid Regeneration keeping the entire profession afloat. Any further nerfs to either of these traits, or to how gyros work, would immediately bottom out engineer into the gutter.
For such a mechanically diverse and creative profession, it’s a serious travesty what ArenaNet has done to this profession. In PvE you’re stuck either AFK bomb autoing or playing a piano. It’s very obvious to me the people that originally conceived and designed our class are long gone from ArenaNet, and it’s very clear the people making balance changes today have literally zero understanding of what is underpinning this profession or how it is even supposed to be played. As someone that has been maining this class since 2012, I’m baffled that we’re at this point in 2017.

>speaking as a pvp engi player main, the changes don’t really add up to much. I much enjoyed thumper turret blasting enemies off nodes for an easy decap than anything else but that’s gone now. and coordinating blast finishers w/ turrets has gotten some getting accustomed to. Pretty minor.
>The old system of traitlines and getting to combine your amulet with the lesser trinket added more variety and contempation to builds for engi or say ele… but i secretly like elite specializations. Now i don’t have to think much about which build i am going to use. passives and CC are still problems imo. engineer has always been as much of a culprit as any other class tho in both respects.
>Like pve, you can play literally what ever you want to in pvp. on engi you can blast finisher up 20 might on a super tanky build and go to town. It’s entertaining. of course half the time my combo gets interrupted, but hey, the other half is pretty funny. …Now (ed.) my might stack just gets stolen X(
“Competition” in this game is not so much as playing the “accepted build” as it is playing smart with the build you’re running.

The new patch in a word: quit
Piken Square EU, maybe soon on your server.
I just want to clarify a few things about condi rev.
Hi, my name is Contraversy and you all probably have disdain for me, but I have been playing with Rev of Boa since it HoT came out. Last time I checked, If you’re playing condi rev right it already is ranged. Unless you come up with a stupid build like I’ve been seeing lately. Regardless, I could barely take 3/10 duels off boa on necro vs his viper condi rev, but after this patch thanks to the sigil changes I now have no problem beating him on necro. So in conclusion: condi rev is ranged, and it has been nerfed because of these boonstripping sigils.
The new sigils…I don’t know. They just feel kinda awful to use. In general, the top few classes feel more balanced, but, the game doesn’t feel fun, anymore. Your guys’ thoughts?
This game hasn’t felt “fun” for a while. I’ve been running the same build on my engineer literally since Heart of Thorns launched, and it’s seen nothing but nerfs for two years. I don’t know what Irenio’s deal is, because we never asked for gyros in the first place and he absolutely refuses to let us use elixirs or gadgets in any real capacity—you know, the things that are actually fun to use.
Today they even felt the need to nerf Protection Injection, a trait which ostensibly just managed to, I guess, fly under the radar for five years before needing this change in May 2017. It’s almost comical at this point. What changed that warranted this nerf?
There’s just absolutely nothing inspirational in these patch notes. They just constantly tackle the low hanging fruit like Healing Signet without properly addressing the deep issues that elite specializations put into the game: there’s just very little build variety, and this patch only stifled things further for multiple professions. I didn’t play nearly any games in season six, and I don’t see why that’ll change for season seven. I don’t care how good or bad it is: I’m just tired of playing the same kittening build every kittening season, and it’s sad they continue to nerf our meta build without helping us create any actual alternatives.
That line is all that needs to be said, this game hasnt been fun since HOT.
There is always something wrong, build diversity among the top since HOT.
But Naru hit it on the head, they gutted 3 classes. Thats terrible, you have 9 classes and each class should be able to compete with one another with at least 1 build.
If its not the kitten poor balance its the broken side parts of the game like REZ speed and invulnerability when you first get downed.
We are literally at a point where no one has a clue who Anet balances the game for. Is it new players? This doesnt help them because they will die to what ever meta build they cant play against since there are no counter builds. And elite players literally have nothing but negative things to say about the games PvP scene.
For players like myself i want it to be fun and the ability to compete with players at my level with different builds. HOT made GW2 not fun in WvW and PvP, you have to just quit playing those 2 side games.
Mike Obrian said if you play WvW you play PvP, ummmm guys what are doing playing PvP? we are all suppose to be in PvE. (OMG the story line just fails so hard, oak heart dues-ex machina anyone?)
Nop, I told Anet why their balance patch made absolutely zero sense and the only logical reasoning for a patch so random and stupid was simply to prep for the new elite specs during the expansion.
The game needs to be balanced around top tier gameplay, and not idiots that walked through test of faith one too many times and claimed “traps are not okay”. This patch is actually so atrocious, and aero was right when he said it was probably by far the worst patch ever.
The previous meta, anet had finally reached a spot where EVERY single class was meta, and any comp could work granted the players playing those classes were good. The old meta had 2 classes that were basically on the edge of not being meta, but if you were good u made it work. Those 2 classes were druid and DH. This patch hit those 2 classes the hardest, and the stronger classes barely got hit.
Sucks anet had to listen to all those monkeys spamming the pvp forum about how they walked through test of faith 4 times or how they fought a druid on the druids node forever and cried OP. Anet cut their meta in half, and their biggest mistake was listening to forum warriors that have 0 clue what the meta really is and ignoring the players that know exactly whats going on.
I main Warrior and when they nerfed Shield of Courage for DH for a second, that was enough for me. At least, then, they were fun to fight. I thought everything was fine pre-patch. shrugs
This is by FAR the worst patch ever…and it has nothing to do with balance.
The problem is that all they did was NERF the playstyles everyone currently plays. The few buffs were so small and insignificant that it’s not going to attract players to come back.
For example…What necro is going to use plaguelands? It’s now just a well that’s far worse than the terrible thing it was before. You could use Krait ruins with the Chill shout elite and get far more bang for the buck instantly and on a much lower cooldown with no self-condis.
Nerfing classes never brings players back…I mean NEVER…even if it helps overall balance. It’s cardinal developer sin 101 because psychologically, people don’t EVER want to significantly lose what they like to play and practiced.
True…Anet painted themselves in a corner by making so many mistakes in the past that these nerfs are technically warranted, but it’s still a “solution” that doesn’t help the game except in a possible long-term scenario.
However, I’m pretty sure these changes won’t stand the test of time. It’s clear that they didn’t even test them. How on earth could they have tested the new Epidemic and not seen the obvious things that needed hotpatches??? It’s literally impossible to have played with it more than 10 minutes and not noticed the bugs. This shows they are either TOTALLY incompetent or don’t do ANY testing at all on things…even if they are totally revamped.
Plaguelands is a lot more dangerous than you think. The last pulse deals one of most condis in the game.
I would just like to state I like this patch, and for Dagger/Dagger elementalist I can finally stack up to 25 might stacks with ease thanks to the new sigils. Because Sigil of Courage no longer requires crit, it is so much easier to stack.

What I really don’t get is the crying about condis. There is more resistance in spvp, more condi cleanse and passive reduction of condi damage and still most classes are power based. It’s more likely you get hit by 9k (basically 50% of your hp) by a single hit from a thief, warrior, mesmer or guard with a power build than getting the same damage from condis.
Still people call it a condi meta.
Piken Square EU, maybe soon on your server.
this is not condi meta rather 3 weeks ppl will test condi build and will return to their power builds
So far, I like the patch. I main thief, and they seem to be stepping in the right direction, shaking our top weapon set’s dominance w/o nerfing the kitten out of them. Good job.
Except the meta hasn’t changed at all. There is no other newly viable build. All it did was nerf, rightly so, but nerf alone won’t make something viable to play with all the powercreep HoT introduced.
In my opinion, the real problem is that these balance patches don’t happen often enough. To me, this patch feels like a “lets tone things down” patch versus “lets make more viable options” patch.
I think both types are good, and it would be nice to have both in a single patch, but if you look at this patch from the perspective of toning down the burst/sustain/stab across the board, it did a decent job.
