Okay first off the people reading this love pvp and want to see it thrive more.
And i think we can all agree even with out more than just capture points and whatever balancing issues we think there are, i think we can agree that rewards are the single biggest thing holding sPvP back.
So lets try to get some constructive ideas on how to fix that
(and we need to keep voicing our thoughts so this issue gets resolved)
1. Ranks - My goodness ranks are insane. I understand that ranks are meant to be comparative to both leveling up and “end game” for pve so they need to be longer but this is quite outta control. It really is just a very long and slow process
Rework:
~First - Lower the amount per rank, Not by much mind you. But if you think about pve it goes by percents making even higher levels pretty fun and streamlined to level.
~Second - Add actual skill based barriers. If we’re talking about giving longevity to sPvP (and not though a slow rank grind) why not actually put up skill based barriers to it. Like a “Rank Up condition” at the end of your rank. Not something crazy mind you. But something that takes a bit of extra effort to counter balance the lower of the rank maxes. Like lets say “This rank you need: To finish off 5 players (in a populated match)” before you rank up, or “You need to catapult 5 players before your next rank” so while youre ranking up you have something else you can keep track of to make fighting the grind a bit more interesting.
~Third - Boost. If the ranking process is going to be long there should be meaningful boost. (well more meaningful) instead of just glory boosters why not give strong rewards to people who are playing well for their team in matches. So if your top of the charts for your team you get and extra X amount of rank points. Did you cap the most points X amount. You revived the most teammates X amount. Though some reworking would be needed for point worths so people don’t just cap a point and sit there defending it to just rank up points.
2. Actual rewards - Well if you were to chalk it up in sPvP you have. /Rank (shows everyone around how awesome you are (well how much sPvP you play), you have armor skins (which can only be seen in sPvP),weapon skins (also only in sPvP), titles (which are like /rank), and champion titles (which is like /rank, but for tPvP)
So first as we’ve seen a shift in how rewards have been working. With chest being put on champs and bonus gold in dungeons. And how it is effecting rewards for different farm trains, dungeon runs, even take overs and flips in wvwvw. sPvP hasn’t ever been more far behind. So instead of complaining lets try to think of a fix.
Rework:
~PvE rewards - now here is the real issue. When you do PvE (dungeons, dynamic events, farming) and when you do WvW(….WvW) when youre done not only have you advanced yourself in that particular area but you have also brought back something extra with you. Gold, Gear (which could also be gold),Mats, Karma, tokens, ect ect. I really have no idea why they same isn’t seen for sPvP. Personally there are days when i log on. And ALL i want to do is hop on a server and sPvP all day. (Which i do) But when i’m done and i find myself in lions arch, as i’m sure everyone does. It doesn’t feel like i have anything to show for it. I’m not saying make it to where pvp farming is the best way to bring in gold. But take the numbers of PvE farming (if you did it all day), or WvW farming (again all day), scale it back from that, divide that into how many matches you could fit in for an entire day, tag on a participation requirement per match. And bam you’ve almost entirely fix the rewards issue with sPvP.
~Second (i did say almost) – EXP!!!!, i gave this one its own spot because i think it needs it. One of the biggest selling points for me (and i’m sure many others) was that you would be able to level your character ‘excessively’ though pvp. Which i can assume was meant to be WvW (which i also wouldn’t recommend). I’m sure i don’t have to explain this one. But yea i would like if i could actually level my alts just doing what i enjoy with them
~Third - PvP specific rewards – As of right now we have like 2 titles – 1 which is champion titles divided up into like 8 and the other is a grind title into like 10. You know i carry my Lissa of the dark mini (from the jubilee patch) everywhere because she is the closest thing i have to a PvP mini. And i don’t know why that is.
Rework:
First and Second - its simple. I do believe you guys are already working on PvP achievement to make them less bland but also things like PvP skins that we can use in PvE, or PvP minis. Something that lets us tout around our pvp accomplishments making them more meaningful.
