I think one problem for hotjoin is of course the queue.
However, if the browser had better options that could create a game faster, queues could speed up and or be nill.

Idea:
* in addition to what is already available, show games that are ready to be played with a 0/10 player join, so players can browse what people are queing, what classes may be needed in addition to those that are waiting in the server queue. once the game is up and running the server eliminates this from the server browser or shows up (full) in case a slot opens up for people to fill the space.

A sever could look like :
Server 041. Ranked. 0 0 0 0 0 0(class symbols awaiting) and how many slots available.

Once maximum slots have been reached the game brings up the map vote and the game begins.

*This would allow to almost eliminate server queues,
*People to know what match-up they’re about to get into
*The game could use an algorithm to split the 10 classes into balanced teams.

To take things further you could even have team based server queues.
So for example;
Server 041. Team A 0 0 0 0 0( profession symbols)Vs Team B 0 0 0 0 0.
So while Team A is waiting, only another team can offer to join their server.

If the game has a team ready via hotjoin it could automatically join them up with the awaiting team on the server list.

*It will give players a little hub to find something straight away and speed up the current match making process.
*it will encourage team building.

Just some ideas, only theory based so be good to here some positive or negative feedback as to why it can or cannot work.

Also, maybe there could be a restriction on 2 classes per server.

Bad idea. The biggest problem with matchmaking and what causes the long waiting time is putting players of similar skill levels together. Having players of similar skill level in a match is what makes it more competitive.

Isn’t this just the custom arena menu with info on who is inside? It cannot be used in place of the queue algorithm because (no matter how flawed people think) it doesn’t take the MMR of the participants into consideration.

Also it forces the player to make the decision to enter the room – this means any new person who isn’t very good has forced themselves onto their team. Letting the automated system and Anet take a lot of the spite people have for being in a team with a new person is a better system than having all that hate fired at the person. Sometimes reducing individual agency is good (reduces the blame they face).

Adding icons to custom arena to say who is inside is fine but it cannot replace our queue system (also I’m not sure its worth the effort). I’d prefer Observer mode to generate the community spirit that the game could use (this was a massive hit in GW1 and really did wonders for the pvp community – twitch is not enough, you can tell from the views).

I don’t remember hotjoin ever having queues. By queue I hope you don’t mean swapping or jumping on the winning team while observing.

No it isn’t to replace it, it is to accompany it. So it can find people who are in a queue and possibly add them. Its all theory based so.

Yeah I agree with the observer mode.

Yeah I agree with the observer mode.

Are you suggesting it as an addition to Ranked/Unranked Queue system? Its not a good addition to Ranked/Unranked (as I explained above).

Also if you were around for when the Vinewrath was released in Silverwastes you will have seen what the menu would look like (instant pop and disappearing servers you need to just spam at and get lucky).
