New Leaderboards - Positives
just…..lol……
just…..lol……
what’s up? May I know what’s so funny about this post huh?
See developers, I told ya if you made losing less harsh people wouldn’t get so angry anymore.
All yall need to start listening to the ‘right’ people.
You know how the community says ‘pvp population is tiny’, well the old leaderboards with that tiny pvp population, some people that did play a lot of games, struggled to be on the leaderboards due to old leaderboard being full of garbage, people win 2 games and sit on leaderboard no more.
I like this leaderboard because its more active and good result. Tired of pug accounts hogging up space. Makes it so you have to focus on one account and not somebody trying to make anet look bad by getting all 10 of his accounts on leaderboard and than have 9 of them go inactive just to stall players.
This new leaderboard really gets the ‘tiny pvp population’ on the leaderboards and ranks people in a good manner as well.

Yeah and the best part is, you have to keep earning points which gets you going and actively play matches to stay in the leaderboards, slackers will now be thrown out quick

Yup, I like this because the old leaderboard was filled with 2nd and 3rd accounts of people just showing how many times they can win and therefore took up space on the leaderboard and you didn’t get the real pvp community on the leaderboards, with this leaderboard you’ll see those people you play against in game on the leaderboards which is good because it gives you an idea of where you are compared to them and sense of competition with them.
Also, the old leaderboard I’d see some people I’ve never seen play on it. All that tells me is that they play at odd hours and avoid playing against other good players to make it seem like they are the best, but fact is they just farm newbs at hours. This new leaderboard rewards you on the quality of games you have, which is defiantly a plus.
It gives people a feeling that its possible to get to the top 25, unlike what it was before, felt impossible, why bother trying, which is bad for the pvp community. When people don’t pvp because they assume everyone is better than them so why bother trying, you don’t get more players to enter the pvp scene. Like the big tournaments they’ve been doing, its nothing but rerunned players playing against same people again. None of the other hundred thousand players decided to give it a try. Why? Most likely due to feeling like it was impossible. Now that they make things feel possible you’ll see an increase in the community. Now that they make points rated off games, you’ll see more competition in the community outside those big tournaments.
Nothing but good changes were made.
The leaderboard shouldn’t be a grindfest board. If someone plays an average of five games a day because that’s all their life afford them then they should be able to compete on the leaderboard against people who lack of a better term no-life it.
The system just needs to be weighted.
I personally don’t care as the mini llamas and Glorious armor pieces mean nothing to me. I climbed to the top twenty five first day of patch, and by no means the best of my class right now. I play to learn the game and have fun, not play 30 games a day just for some leaderboard status.
You see the same people in the big tournaments for a reason. They put in time. They are the best players. Not many teams form on any serious level.

“competitive” ranked pvp is basically a casual leaderboard grind for mediocre players. Players with more time then skill will dominate the board leaving the actual good players wondering what the kitten?

They should make a community rating system then.
The star system I mentioned in another thread.
If you really want the community to know your good, than go ahead and dominate the game and make people give you 5 stars to indicate that you shouldn’t be put against them. Also to indicate/flag this player is extremely good, mmr carefully place this player in matchmaking.
If you got 2 5 stars queing at same time they’ll both be on different teams more likely because game registers, ‘hey we got two extremely good players rated by community, lets watch and see who wins so they will be on different teams’. Current mmr, doesn’t really know, it only goes off its statistical data that what the system thinks, it doesn’t have any data by actual humans indicating there skill level, therefore the star system would place people into mmr better. So in theory in the current system, those 5 star players if there was a community ranking system could be placed together (all the players that did influence the game wins placed together) and the system might think other people (people that got carried) were the 5 star players and therefore uneven matchup due to bad data. Human data, human ratings are the best data.
Also, you’d see what the community thinks is a good player and my hypothesis is that those that you think are good, wont have as good as a rating by the community because if the community never sees you due to you playing at odd hours to make yourself look good on old leaderboards, they’ll never rate you.
Another thing, it’d be nice to see what player rates other players and who rates you what.. Like if I wanted to see if player x thought was good because I think hes good I can see his rate history. And I can see what others rated him because maybe I think hes bad but others say hes good.
There needs to be a community driven leaderboard for what you want to see skill wise. I think this current leaderboard is good if its running how I think its running by awarding points off tough matches rather than super premades facing bunch of newbs and becoming top leaderboard player because of it. This game needs to encourage top teams to face other top teams in the actual game and not only in those big tournaments. Needs to encourage people to play real games and not cheat the system.

Why reward “top na teams” if they only play 1 game a week? This isn’t the previous leader boards. This isn’t a tournament. It’s a pvp season.
That said, teams/players who are consistently getting that 400+ point margin shouldn’t earn a point if they have (obviously) high mmr, or, high on the leaderboards. Shouldn’t LB rank 1 already give you high mmr? I’ll let the devs handle the data and recalculate what ever they need to recalculate from this test season.
It’s not a grind. It’s being consistent. If these players stop playing, they risk losing that position. If they aren’t winning, they risk losing that position. There are numerous teams and players who are doing what the current top rank 25 player’s are doing. Just inconsistently so.
Regardless, ESL tournaments and the like will reward you not just fame, but an all around bigger payout. Why give these players automatic top 5 on the pvp season leaderboards?
(Come to think of it, that would be kind of cool)
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld

Who said one game a week?
If a player ends the season with 300 games they cannot compete with someone who spammed out 1k+ games. It’s a silly grindfest. Rewarding people for games played isn’t deciding anything except who has the most time on their hands to play video games.
People are not just playing matches to appear on the leaderboards, they play what they like and now they have a good chance to appear on leaderboards also so what’s the harm in it? If super hardcore pro people have problems that they cannot stay on the leaderboards without playing much or cannot get the limelight anymore, they should try their luck in ESL or other big events to show how good they are. Gw2 leaderboards is FOR EVERY gw2 player, it’s for every skill-level player NOT just for those who after getting a rank, stops playing so they can stay on the leaderboards forever. Also, we don’t have 1 v 1 modes yet so you cannot decide on a technical skill-based leaderboard for players, old leaderboards were showing how good their teams were tbh and was based on plain win or loose, now we have several factors which contribute to your points (not just how much time you spend in pvp). Current leaderboard is for Active PvP player base, makes it fair for all and it’s much more rewarding in my opinion.

For me, the point system is good, i’ll add only a season cap for matches (like 200-300 max for seasons, it means 7-10 matches/daily) to avoid the extreme grinding and for a better competition.
a really “good” player plays 5 games per night,
wins all 5 games, + 5 ladder points.
an “average” player plays 10 games per night,
wins 5 games, + 5 ladder points,
loses 2 games due to being stomped by “good” players, – 2 ladder points,
loses 1 games but did slightly better, + 0 ladder points,
loses 2 games but close games and scored 400 + so + 2 ladder points.
total + 5 ladder points.
a “below average” but hardcore player plays 20 games per night,
wins 10 games, got lucky and get carried, + 10 ladder points
lose 5 games, bad luck and get stomped, – 5 ladder points
lose 5 games but did slightly better, + 0 ladder points
total + 5 ladder points.
a “totally new to sPvP” but enthusiastic player plays 30 games per night,
wins 5 games, got carried, + 5 ladder points
lose 10 games, got semi carried, + 10 ladder points
lose 15 games, teamed up with other new players, – 15 ladder points
total + 0 ladder points.
sure, players can grind a lot of games, but if they themselves and their respective team mates cannot contribute much in order to help the team win, in the end, all is vain.

That’s not how the ladder works in the long run.

This leaderboard is not for every GW2 player. There are more players who aren’t going to grind for points than there are people who are going to grind for points. It’s fair to people who have a crap ton of time to put into the game, and not so fair to people who either have busy lives or not always motivated to spam pvp games.
Nothing good about the new system any means 5 man teams get to kitten the solo q.
