Hey all. Im new to the game. I bought it when it was first released and never got to into it.

I come from world of warcraft and though i do still pplay, im looking for an mmo that has more balanced pvp. I know that it can never be 100% perfect, but im looking for a game that doesnt render my favorite class (profession) useless for months on end. ..RIP windwalker monk..

So anyway as i was saying i have a couple of questions:

Is pvp in this game balanced?

For those WoW players, what profession would you say feels similar to WW monks aesthetically?

How is the grind to level AND to get gear thats good for pvp?

And last question, is there anything that WoWs pvp system has that you wish GW2 used and why?

Thanks for your help all!

No gear grind, you can start PvP right away, although obviously you won’t be familiar with the professions.

i think i can help you, i’ve played a lot of gw2 and wow pvp.

Is pvp in this game balanced?

It’s not perfect, but they try.

There’s always a dominant build and profession but trust me, balance is 10 times better than wow. I’ve been playing a lot of WoD and some classes (dk, hunters, rdruids) are incredibly broken. There’s not such a thing here.

For those WoW players, what profession would you say feels similar to WW monks aesthetically? tbh idk, maybe thief but it’s more of a rogue class. They have good mobility and teleports as WW monks

How is the grind to level AND to get gear thats good for pvp?
For structured pvp (competitive) you don’t need to lvl nor gear at all. They give you instantly a lvl 80 character with everything you need. You only “grind” for skins and maybe a couple of skills/traits, but they are not necessary.

And last question, is there anything that WoWs pvp system has that you wish GW2 used and why? Yeah i wish GW2 had an arena game mode. But that’s not going to happen sadly.

Is pvp in this game balanced?

Depends who you ask. Changes this tuesday may have a decent effect, we’ll see.

Didn’t play that expansion, might want to explain how it functioned.

How is the grind to level AND to get gear thats good for pvp?

No grind or leveling required in spvp(you get everything but a few traits you spend gold on, which you can get from playing for a few days). Only for wvw.

And last question, is there anything that WoWs pvp system has that you wish GW2 used and why?

Thanks for your help all!

Not really, I did enjoy wow pvp when I played it but after playing gw2 I could never go back to that style. I wish ranged attacks in this game were more like terra or smite(ie: required aiming).

Thanks for the responses! I can see that the forums on here arent nearly the cesspool that their foruns have..

On that note. Another question i now have is, they have no arena type mode? I thought they had 2v2 and 3v3 type modes on here. If they do have smaller pvp modes, how do they work?

Also is there any World pvp? Im talking so as i level i can beat people down.

Once again i thank you for your time everyone.

The competitive mode is 5v5 conquest, similar as rbg battle of gilneas, every map has secondary mechanics to make it more interesting tho

There is not World PvP , but there are the World vs World vs World (WvWvW = 3 servers fighting each other in 4 huge areas)

Just press ’’B’’ and join 1 of the 4 servers (not Obsidian Sanctrum or Egde of the Mist) and
push ’’M’’ and try to look some some yellow-red-blue trinagles on the maps (Commanders)
and try to get near him and follow .

You can try to roam the map alone for some 1v1 , but as lvl 1 (you will jumped up to 80 lvl) but you will pitiful stats .

Egde of the Mist is some casual WvWvW , where the system will try to find ppl from various servers for some fun

There are private servers and the mistpedia 2v2 tournaments but no official 2v2 or 3v3 despite all the requests since beta.

WvW is “open world”. Uses your pve gear and buffs. Maps designed for large scale pvp/siege warfare. Can read more at: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_versus_World

So there is only 5v5? And they are made in the fashion of a battleground? …thats kind of odd. Do they never plan to put arenas in?

Yeah it is indeed odd. They think that the only way to make competitive pvp is 5v5

Structured PvP is Conquest. It’s about capping and holding points, it’s 5v5, and a sound strategy is more important than killing everything that moves

There is a deathmatch map in the rotation (once you queue and the parties are formed, 3 random maps appear and there is a vote), it’s called Courtyard.

No 2v2 or 3v3, except maybe on a Custom Arena, with people you know.
I’m telling you so you are aware they exist, but they are very very expensive and it’s more of a guild thing rather than single individuals I guess.

World versus World sees 3 huge teams pit against each other for control over supply camps, towers, keeps. There is siege weaponry, and some experienced players take up the role of commanders and direct the others.
It’s pretty darn good
But in this last case you do need lvl 80 gear if you want to perform on the same level as the other players.

Alright all. Thank you so much for your help i really appreciate it. I joined a guild last night to get help as i go but if there is one thing i am looking forward too, its the community this game seems to have. Seems much more mature than what im used to.

Thanks!

You will enjoy PvP here.

Check this movie:
Guild Wars 2 DD Elementalist Guide
(start watching from 25:00+ to see it in action)
It should be similar to Monk’s gameplay – well, the most because will never be the same. Guild Wars 2 is way better than World of Warcraft. It has more variations of everything.

San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of.

THE HYPE!

Lol Probably is one the best communities but it has it’s toxicity. Not nearly as bad as other MMO’s or MOBA’s; but don’t think it’s all daisy’s and ranbows or you will be in for a shocker . GL out there and have fun!

I played a large variety of mmos in the past. GW2 probably has the best balance out of them all. Sure you may see the community whine about balance, but I think some of it is due from younger players not playing other games. Also, some of the balance issues in this game are legit, but nothing feels like other games where you have to contend with gear on top of class issues.

^^ Yes, this game is way more balanced due to the only difference in players is the build/ skill lvl. No need to worry about gear in sPvP which is a huge change from the rest of the games out there.
