Nov 15th Patch
don’t get high hopes for this patch, it will be mainly a one time world event similar to the halloween event, otherwise said a pve event. probably 2-3 minor class fixes along the way but don’t expect too much.
kind of hard not to get hopes up at this point, I think. ANet’s slow & steady approach has been far more slow than steady. Seems reasonable that after three months people feel like ANet has some ground to make up.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
I’m not talking about nerfs/buffs I’m talking about legitimate class bug fixes. Go look in every class forum they have a sticky of 50+ bugs per class, necro was over 100 at one point not sure if it’s still above now or not. They need to have a massive wave of fixes for broken class mechanics/traits.
Anet has been the slowest company I have seen with class bug fixes despite all their hype about how their engine allows for on the fly fixes and patching.
They handwaved Necro bugs by saying things are intended (but not optimal).
Example: Using your elite kills all your minions. Intended, but not optimal.
It’s masterful really.
For the people saying “be patient” or “the gaming community has become so self-centered”…..I wish I had access or a desire to go check the forums of SWTOR, WAR, and RIFT. There were certain things in there that people had legitimate complaints about. When people would voice their opinions, people like you all would come in there and make them out to be 10 year old whining brats.
Now those same people that complain about negative posts are posting on those forums about how dead their servers are and begging for better ways to get more people to play. Odd how that works isn’t it…
Hope full for custom arenas, prob not included though
Sophea Sladorian – Charr Ranger – [DECM] | Sea of Sorrows
Sophea Of Elements – Human Elementalist – [DECM] | Sea of Sorrows
PvPers as 2nd class citizens
Indeed. Run around orr, make a decent coin at no risk or farm the 2 DE for karma, coin and loot. Run around the borderlands, oh look, iron and carrots and repair costs.
do yourself a favor and stop the spvp it’s not even worth your time as it is right now.
If you really have your hopes up for a fair deal of change…
Drop the game for half a year.
Seriously I’m not even joking, you will get yourself beat up and ultimately, completely, fed up with this game by putting your hopes on large changes this early…
It’ll take about another half a year for them to get the normal housekeeping of a new MMO all into check (along with a good idea of where the meta is verse where they want it to be) then really get some solid work done on the classes and SPvP system.
Barely anything (in all and every likelihood) short of bug fixes, exploit fixes and small number tweaks is going to happen much sooner than that.

My friend, at this point, those “barely anything” fixes would be GIGANTIC. We’ve been living with a game breaking block bug and bladetrail bug and stealth bug for a long long time.
They are hotfixing important things like Dye Drop Rates, so we understand that these other changes get put on the back-burner.

Barely anything [will be changed]… short of…
But yeah some of what they have been patching so far seems a bit silly.
Bugs
Honestly I rarely ever see the bladetrail bug, the stealth rendering is null to a lil observancy and good clicking, or even tab targeting in a number of cases (it shows a black ring under them right as they get out of stealth (and so can be targeted/attacked) it doesn’t show their actual toon but you can click right above it or tab target and voila… for those who have to wait to actually see the nice lil mesh and whatnot of the enemy themself to target the guy… dunno what to say) and I honestly don’t know what the block bug is.
So yeah from personal experience I wouldn’t call them game breaking, but even so bugs are extremely numerous for a released game on this sort of pay scale.
Anyways, the people a page back expressed far from that area of concern.

I just hope the new spvp map isnt another raid on the capricorn…
It’s actually a really well designed map, but people have played it the least. I distinctly remember people saying Niflhel was rubbish when that first launched.
This patch that is coming will decide weather I’m going to bother with this game or move on. Thief tune down, stealth bug fix and necro fixes. If those three wont be in next patch I am so out. Not worth it.
I already play less and less just because all I do in PvP is fight those kittenign thieves.

please remember that mesmers are actually the real problem in tpvp, while thieves may dominate spvp. at high levels of play, the sword/pistol/staff mesmer is absolutely brutal and needs serious tuning down. good thieves are balanced in tpvp, while mediocre/bad thieves need not apply.

Rangers, [good rangers] roflestomp power specced sword mesmers.
Rangers can evade during the immobilize and go invis when they are CC’d (30s internal CD, magic bullet is on a 25s CD).
Offensively rangers tend to throw out more conditions than a sword/pistol-staff mesmer can deal with, that and well placed traps or timed weapon swaps (sigil of geaomancy) eat phantasms (and still hit the mes a fair deal of the time).
For a class like mesmer where every good source of dmg is something you can point a finger at and either kill (phantasm) or evade (shatters/blurred frenzy/first volley of phantasm)… that sort of spec just makes landing good dmg (at very least in a 1v1) next to impossible for the mesmer.
The only reason I’d see to tonedown mesmers are because of their portals.
Pretty much every group runs a mesmer at VERY least for khylo, it’s nearly necessary.
Oh and being able to swap in and out utilities out of combat doesn’t help the matter in the slightest.

I may be viewed as short-sighted for this, but I am putting a large amount of weight on this balance patch. I have high hopes for certain things (that I won’t discuss here because I don’t want this to get derailed). If they do not come or if little to no buffing/nerfing/fixing happens, then I may forever lose faith. If little to none of these changes happen while another PvE event change goes in, I may just be forever jaded.
Just curious if I’m the only one putting this much weight on one patch.
I expect to see more pve content, fixes to pve bugs which are affecting their profits, maybe a few profession bug fixes (of course at the expense of other even worse bugs being created inadvertently), and absolutely NOTHING to enhance the current pvp system or format.
I hope I’m wrong.
One of the main reasons no mmo will ever have the same success as WoW did, in my opinion, are posts like this. Communities are so impatient now, threatening to leave, exaggerating Issues. I’ve seen this trend for awhile now, we set up games for failure without giving them time to develop and succeed.
This ppatch isn’t make or break for me, because this has been one of the smoothest and well balanced(regarding PvP) launches for an mmo I know of.
Trouble is, this game was released “when it’s ready”. So why the hell are all these bugs in the game at release in the first place, and why oh why haven’t they been fixed 2.5 months into release?

It’s not like there’s 1 or 2 little bugs here for each class, there’s TONS of them for everyone, and I really hope they are going to make a real effort into correcting a lot of them for the next patch.
1. give steal a short casting time (to prevent CnD precast)
lulwhat? You’re asking to give an istant cast skill…a shorter casting time? Dfuq? Do you know what you are talkin’ about or just reporting what you read on those QQ thief posts all around?
New MMO’s should not have an expectation of more “time” to only repeat the same mistakes as their predecessors. That’s why people are so quick to leave. We don’t want to have to go through the development cycle “AGAIN” with another company, especially if we’re working on the same problems of previous games.

I would assume when it’s ready was harder to achieve through continuous pressure from their publisher. This isn’t a huge issue for me, though. I am a patient man, and I understand both the difficulty of nailing down all those bugs and how long it takes to even things out in a large scale game.

this is why they must deliver pvp tweaks and content much faster.
and no, i dont think GW2 was released when ready. likely too much pressure from NCSoft toward the end. they could have used another 3 months of large-scale beta testing (like Valve is doing with DOTA2), at least for the pvp aspect of the game, to squash all bugs and horrible balancing/meta problems (hello mesmers, backstab, bunkers). Valve is doing it perfectly.

You’re super bad at reading comprehension. He didn’t say give Steal a shorter cast time. He said give it a short cast time. As in, give it a cast time, but make it short.
If Steal had a cast time, it couldn’t be used in conjunction with a precast Cloak and Dagger, which is the source of a backstab Thief’s enormous burst damage.
Do you have any idea what you’re talking about?
So, what balance changes are we sure we’re getting with this patch?
- Ranger fixes for a lot of their utility, and some of their weapons.
- Stealth fixes and thieves’ burst toned down at the compensation of something else (higher sustained damage?)
- Changes and bug fixes for all 8 professions.
- Possibly some nerfs to bunker builds?

yes, i can say with confidence we’re getting all of the above, based on what jonathan and JP have posted. im not sure about mesmer nerfs…theyre badly needed, especially for portals, but as long as thief and bunker exploits get addressed i’ll be ecstatic.

I seriously doubt it.

Most of those were pretty much confirmed.

Ranger fixes were confirmed, I did not see anything specific about utility or weapon specific changes.
The stealth culling issue is confirmed to be fixed, nothing again about bust reduction or sustained damage increases
Since it’s been a couple of weeks, yeah I would hope they’d do fixes for all professions
They said they were keeping an eye on bunkers not that they were nerfing them

this is what happens when you faceroll 2 buttons all day. you become stupid. hes saying add a cast time to steal so you cant dual cast it with CnD, noob.
if they don’t add a new costume in the gem store, I quit, I said it !

Unfortunately, you may very well end up being one of the few who gets what you want…
Its not just content for me… Its balance. I havent seen so many cheese moves and builds for awhile now. Even the laughable SWTOR didn’t have me nuked to pieces 1-2 seconds like GW2 does.
A few times tonight I was just shaking my head at things.
Immortal staff mezmer who is twice as slipper as a thief and vanishes the moment hes in trouble -shakes head-
Bursted down in 2 secs by more thieves that I care to count. -shakes head-.
Turned into a stupid moa bird, immobilized and beat to death. -shakes head-
I know they were looking for fast paced and actiony, but I’d like a big heaping spoonfull of some tactics to go with my pvp and less of this fotm, burst junk and cheesey non-sense.
-rant-
It seems like someone needs to play a mesmer to see how they work. “Immortal” isn’t even close to possible. Mesmers can be very hard to kill, at the trade off of nearly no damage, just like pretty much every other “tank” built profession. Find a way around the survivability, or ignore them. The point of those characters is to make you waste your time accomplishing nothing.
I’ve personally found engineers much better at surviving than my “Immortal” mesmer. And I congratulate them every time. Learn to appreciate what others do and learn from it. Rather than qq that they’re broken.

People saying mesmers are invincible are like those who say thieves are the ultimate oneshot weapons….mezs are unbeatable and you would be oneshotted by thieves only if YOU ARE BAD. End of the story
Anyone who actually know hot to play can counter a mesmer or a thief, maybe it would be hard if he’s good…but you can counter everything in this game….sure if you run a really squishy spec and you get owned, you know this is going to happen
