As I understand it, this should be the norm going forward. Also, ranks are no longer planned on going away, it’s just that rewards (except finishers) won’t be tied to it anymore.

We haven’t 100% nailed down our final plans for ranks, considering we were just persuaded to keep them in. We’ll be able to talk about it a bit more once we’ve had some additional time to discuss it internally. I’m assuming we’ll change them somehow – the amount of time a player would need to invest to hit 80 just isn’t reasonable.

Bit confused though, have the money rewards, new vendor been added or is that on 10th Dec or later?

I think what you should aim for with ranks in a way achievements works.

Nothing is really tied to it, but reaching mile-stones gets you abit of a bonus, alongside the animal finisher, maybe a title and later on you could add pieces of cosmetic gear to it. Like one backpiece, a weapon set, or separate gear pieces like you do with achievement point rewards and finishing stuff such as Living Story meta.

That way, ranking up is more of a fun goal in the background whilst the ladder is focused on people’s skills. I always loved the ranking system in sPvP minus the part that all gear was gated behind it. Now when gear is more open, you can use it in the way I wish PvE levels could be used and how achievements already are.

Is the bonus for win/loss or just wins? Also it may help players getting into tpvp if they were given 1 match chest for losses instead of nothing, but at the same time award nothing to players who quit mid-game.

Can you consider making solo queue 5x? There was already a 25% reduction in rank earned for doing solo instead of team.

I would prefer if you would chance the amount that is needed to rech high ranks, so lets say cap the required glory to the amount that is needed for idc.. rank 60? rank70? still having an exponential increase is hard^^
This would also be more fair comparing newer players and verterans. If you increase rank point gain, then it is way fast to reach high ranks, so new players actually have an advantage (they need to play less to achive the same).

So as I understand it now, the current ranks/finishers are staying in permanently? And the only thing that is changing is the way/speed of gaining rank? If this is true its definitely put me back in the mood of sPvP since I can work towards my goal again.

From experience when i played soloQ/spvp..22-30 minute for a match in soloQ. In that same time I could have played 3x hotjoin. This is good news for people who play in America/Europe. However if I am not mistaken, 15-17% of box sales where in NA/EU..the other circa 80% don’t play in those times zones. It is the wait times at offpeak times that makes tpvp/soloQ unattractive to south pacific players. In short, the rich get richer..the poor get poorer kinda thing. Nice to see the increase to those who play at peak times…acid in the mouth to those who don’t.

You guys are desperate to bring players into PvP aren’t you?! Here is a hint. Start to actually balance the game and ppl will naturally come back to PvP. The changes on Dez 10th will drive even more ppl away from PvP.

The PvP team keeps surprising every one with the worse possible decisions balance wise… professions that are balanced are being buffed/nerfed, already OP professions getting buffed, UP professions nerfed I mean… what game are you guys playing?!

Now the NEW healing skills, it is visible that you’ve put a lot of effort in making your favorite profession’s heals guardian’s, warrior’s, the engi’s and the mesmers, after that you thought… what now?! what will we give “the rest” of the professions?!
Who cares… just pull something out of you kitten and throw it in there faces! Then increase the rank points gain to make every one happy and call it a day.

You are giving us a ignorance certificate! Sorry dude, not gonna happen.

I promises you that until every profession is treated equally and the person responsible for balancing skills starts doing his job like a professional, i will not spend another cent in this game nor ill set foot in SPvP even though i don’t PvE at all since im a pure PvP player. I’ll be playing WvWvW exclusively along with other, more balanced games.

I don’t get chests for another 400 wins or so for whatever reason, so this stinks because I miss out on so much.

Any word on that? It’s really horrible that you can’t switch the region without that massive loss of rankpoints.

I think leaving the rank system in is a good idea, it’s a nice long term progression that really doesn’t interfere with anything else.
I don’t understand why you’d remove the finishers from it though(if that ends up being the plan), and below rank 60 the rate really doesn’t need changing. At this point the expectation and strength of the system is that it takes a long while, and the ranks are a monument to the time you’ve spent playing. The rarity of the higher ranks is really something special.

Maybe I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like solo queue is giving 3x the rank points. More like 1.5x?

EDIT: Oops, I guess it’s just for wins, and just for the bonus chest. 3×150 = 450

I like the ranks, given that it does take a ridiculous amount of time to rank up i think ranks are a good feature to have.

You will probably end the bonus when wars are not completely overpowered and necros have a slim chance. I just say remove necro option from tpvp all together.

Only 3 classes allowed in tpvp. Engi. Warrior and thief maybe a mesmer.

Engi are the most played next to war.

Praise the health gods. We have the most. So when all you necros out there are getting chain cc’d back and forth like a rag doll, already used your stun-breakers (even an ele has more hard CC than ur stunbreaks) and u cant use any skills at all, Thank the health gods. Cuz by that time you have about 800 hp wearing soldiers and vit runes.

Hey I often hear this stat “80% of people who have bought the game are off peak”, EU to American time zones takes up roughly 12hrs thats half the globe 5 of that is ocean, so the people live in 7hrs worth of space. That means in the other 12hrs of space you have the 80% (some ocean time there too unless there are a lot of gamers in Alaska and Siberia). Now my question is how can such a large % of the games population be living in this area of time on the globe and it still be “off peak”. I’m not trying to be cheeky I’m genuinely interested in how this 80% of people =/= large player base.

If you have any theories I’d love to hear them, I’m thinking atm large number of sales being made purely for PvE or farming. Possibly more diverse languages in these other time zones, English being spoken very well through most of the European gaming community (and i guess America gives it a try too), maybe this puts people off PvP. I’m genuinely curious and not sure. But the fact of the matter is you are saying its “off peak” therefore not very many people play PvP, which means less will be tailored to a smaller player base.

Fascinating situation, needs more research. 80% purchases and yet limited players – whats your theory?
