My prediction:

Necro gets it on ds 5 which is conditional to even use (need lf) and probably gonna be on a 50s cd. Thieves and mesmers probably have it on weapon sets (always accessible) on a 15s cd and 0 cd for thieves.

To be honest, I don’t see that new conditions given to Mesmers and Thieves as a problem as long as burst builds can’t benefit from it and other professions are effectively put on par.

Condition builds on both Mesmers and Thieves are fairly bad and not that common. Adding a new condition to their arsenal will make them more used and will give those profession a valid alternative to burst builds.

Obviously, I’m hoping that this new condition given to mesmers is coupled with a decent tuning of their burst damage.

Death Shroud: Tainted Shackles. This skill will cause nearby enemies to be inflicted with conditions and controlled if they don’t take very quick action.

I wonder if this means DS 5 will have a chance at fear or…. necros getting Pulls/pushs

Mesmer’s illusions are their own separate beings, thus they are not only able to be affected by boons/heals etc from allies, but also… weakness will have no effect on summoned phantasm unless you apply weakness directly at them.

What makes you think that the new condition wont just be tacked on to skills?

A skill with a condition is strictly better than the same skill without that condition. So even for direct damage classes conditions help.

On crit traits linked to conditions suck for necro. The necro’s condition weapons have slow rates of fire and often slow projectile speed too (staff). So I doubt the trait will be close to what the engi trait does. The necro weapons don’t lend themselves to this except the dagger mh which has a high rate of fire. But that isnt a condition weapon.

You must be new here. This sort of post was posted by many people in december. Then still alot in january. Some still believed this in february. Well, it is June. Yeah.. but Mesmer conditions, besides confusion, are pretty random. Winds of Chaos has a 1/3 chance for Bleed, Burn, or Vulnerability. Illusions cause bleeding on crit. I’m guessing the only way we’ll get torment is either traited for “On Clone Death” or tacked onto a weapon skill that’s lacking.

As for traits/skills/nerfs…

“First off, we’ve got a ton of trait changes coming up. Many traits that were less than desirable have been brought up in effectiveness, while others have been shuffled around and merged together to make room for new traits to be introduced. In doing this, we’ve created several new grandmaster traits for quite a few trait lines. For example: elementalists have a new grandmaster Air trait that allows them to recharge their air attunement, necromancers now have access to the burning condition, and warriors will have an option to remove conditions when using burst abilities.”

We also looked at small skill revisions and number balances to boost the power of specific skills, weapons, and traits. When possible, we try very hard not to take away too much potency from popular builds because we know that a lot of people enjoy them – but occasionally we do need to bring some abilities down in power.

Someone’s getting nerfed in some way.. Likely Mesmers.

The profession balance developers do work, but the ones who make matchmaking and leaderboards, those developers lazy kitten motherkitteners. Takes them months to come up with a formula for matchmaking and they always wrong, they need to take some calculus classes and some common sense classes.

Everytime they announce a new and improved matchmaking, I enjoy proving them wrong.

I don’t come to the forums to tell you your game is good, when I come to the forums its because your game sucks and you got lots of issues that needs to be fixed. If I was enjoying your game, I’d be playing the game instead of being on the forums.

Looking at the leaked patch notes, I have good news. Necromancer gets it on Death Shroud #5, Thief can only use it through Skale Venom (it replaces weakness for it), and Mesmers can only use it with Scepter #2, which is their counter. ANet surprisingly thought this out well if those leaked patch notes are indeed correct.

I think it really depends on how torment is implemented. If it lasts 5+ seconds it isn’t going to be a dynamic change that promotes a reaction. If it is mostly a ~3-5s condition with a more noticeable effect people will play around it more.

But… still seems overly focused on affecting the warrior.

The other thing that is always a concern is how they use traits to buff a class or cover its weakness. Those traits become mandatory and crowd out options.

Wrong approach – Trait that makes burst skills remove a condition
Correct approach – new burst skill that removes conditions

The problem is widespread between all warrior builds so give it to all warriors not a specific build.

Huhm … so instead of using the well-functioning mechanics from GW1, they use some of the most broken from another game (read: Warhammer). I remember they had to nerf that poison so hard, that it was next to useless, but before that it was so OP (but granted: fun to play and watch ppl kill themselves).
Nope … I don’t see ppl again being frustrated with cheesy builds .. nope, never.

Why is it, that there is so much resistance to build on what was working in the first game?
It is really hard to write something constructive until we see it, but that exact change is something that was subject to such a horrible act of balance in another game (and I believe, there are Mythic-devs in GW2, or?) so they should be painfully aware of it.

PS: If RyuDragnier has it right, I wonder how venomshare will pan out … ? The good thing is it isn’t spam-able though.

Optimistic reaction
Looking forward to Warriors finally becoming truly competitive in PvP.

Preparing to completely abandon PvP and play PvE content only.

From what we do know: Weakness rework / Torment condition, I can only say it is looking dim for Warriors being viable unless they get exponential buffs from here on out.
I’d rather see Warrior have Torment, it would fit what they need perfectly. Punishing opponents for running from them, which is one of the Warrior’s weaknesses right now.

I am excited to see new opportunities for condition builds on unconventional classes: Thieves & Mesmers and picking up Necromancer again!
Although, it’d rather see more burst glasscannons in the game than team’s stacking conditions mindlessly in teamfights…

Opting for the sensible reaction.

They really need to add solo que man that should be top priority. I mean honestly whats going with the dev team they can make spvp playable again in such simple ways its really frusterating. Just add solo queue ..redefine the award system..add incentives..boom all my friends would suddenly be playing spvp again.

The devs are so focused on balanced which is good but imo there are much higher priorities such as actual content. Its been more then 3 months since paid tournys failed system was cut off and this band aid solution of 1 match tournmanets still exists with so many flaws smh…

this new conditions sounds like a big fail…
but lets see

oh and burning on necro :P
maybe i should play necro in future…
burning ppls with fear, sounds funny

do necro have this new condition too? :P
if yes => burning ppls with fear which get dmg because they RUN in fear and burn

To be honest, I don’t see that new conditions given to Mesmers and Thieves as a problem as long as burst builds can’t benefit from it and other professions are effectively put on par.

Condition builds on both Mesmers and Thieves are fairly bad and not that common. Adding a new condition to their arsenal will make them more used and will give those profession a valid alternative to burst builds.

Obviously, I’m hoping that this new condition given to mesmers is coupled with a decent tuning of their burst damage.

Unless the only source of that condition for thief is a vastly underused venom (skale venom) and has limited duration / applications. It can hardly be considered another layer to the conditions which are so easily removed which is why condition builds for thief are so unviable / uncommon.

They suck. Believe me, I know. I’ve tried many variants for condition builds for thief and it just isn’t effective against Guardian / Ele / Engi / other thieves because they literally laugh off conditions. Realistically, it feels like condition removal is too easy / accessable. kitten … Guardians have auto condition removal that requires 0 thought process which requires 0 skill to utilize / make other builds ineffective.

Brilliantly fail design.

I see this new condition change as a joke, lol.
