I wonder if the balance patch (assuming there is one this month) is going to be before the EU dates, or if its going to be on the 30th, right after. It may (or may not) change builds for the upcoming tournies.

Why you not allow Brasil in the list. Is it because we found out Obama’s been listening our phone calls and reading our e-mails and now we’ll proceed to be mad at US, so Anet try to retaliate Brasil cuz of that?

I don’t understand why people that are under the age of 18 can’t play. There has to be something we can do about this.

- Why can’t we just forfeit that persons prize?
- Why can’t we pay our own way for that one person by booking a flight and a hotel in the area?
- Why can’t we have their parent/legal guardian sign something? If you’re worried about something happening, then why not have a release that says you’re not responsible for them?

I just don’t understand. So many teams now have to essentially ditch players that they’ve played with, and built synergy with. There’s been plenty of LANs that have had cash prizes where people under the age of 18 have been able to not just play, but win things. There needs to be an explanation for this.

The same goes for players not in Canada, USA, Mexico, and the EU. Good teams now have to reorganize for qualifiers that are 2 weeks away.

Regarding only having players only from Canada, USA, Mexico and the EU union; what’s the reasoning behind that; because its very vague.
Like is it because of travel expenses or other legal issues, cause we need more clarification regarding this matter please.

Two of the best teams on NA (PZ, AL) have to change rosters due to these player requirements, and losing a 5th means alot more than just the trouble of finding a new player in 2 weeks. You lose months even years of synergy and you don’t want the teams you’re showing off to the world as an example of your game to be playing on sub par levels. TP is affected by the region requirements and i believe TCG is as well.
Boom, there goes almost all of the top teams in your game. GGWP

Contests are typically limited to 18 and older because of various legal laws that require companies with contestants under that age have to jump through additional hoops. Its easier to waive liability by prohibiting under age contestants.

This is terrible, guild wars 2 is rated teen ages 13+, why would you put an 18+ cap on a tournament. Like wtf, this is gonna affect everyone, plus the region lock, like good luck showcasing your game at PAX when you wont have any full top teams competing.

We’re proud to announce the very first Guild Wars 2 Invitational Tournament on August 31, 2013 at PAX Prime! We’re teaming up with our partner MMORPG.com to host an exciting PvP tournament where the top North American and European teams will face off in a best-three-games-out-of-five match with a cash prize pool of $10,000 on the line.

To determine which teams from each territory will qualify for the Guild Wars 2 Invitational Tournament, teams of five players from Europe and North America will compete in regional qualifying tournaments hosted by MMORPG.com and Mist League.

The European regional tournament will be on July 27-28 and the North American regional will take place on August 3-4.

Both regional qualifying tournaments will have a maximum of 32 teams. The format will be five vs. five single elimination matches, and the winners of each match will be determined by the victors of two out of three games. After the qualifying tournaments are complete, the winning teams will be hosted on August 31, 2013 during PAX Prime for a competition between the two best Guild Wars 2 teams.

“Prize pool” would signify a division of total prize, presumably between the two teams.

Single-elimination is is different than “best-of-X”. Single-elim means that if you lose your best of three match-up, you’re out of the tournament, where as a double-elim tournament would put you into the losers bracket where you could make a potential comeback into the finals.

Out here in Australia, you need to be of the legal age (18+) to book a hotel room. I think the biggest reason is being liable and entering into a contract with the hotel to book the room. If your a minor contracts are not legally enforceable and puts the hotel at risk if the underage patron does not pay or cause damages. Hotels don’t want to take legal responsibilities of minors anyway and if something happens I’m pretty sure the hotel could be held liable.

Also some hotels set their own minimum age requirements so taking that into consideration, traveling interstate/overseas and staying at a hotel, its better to be 18+ as theres less legal issues to deal with if something does go wrong (as being under 18 the laws are different for minors).

Anyway this looks promising, hope the turnout is great and videos are posted on the net! GL to all participating!

The 18+ requirement is expected in any type of tournament that awards money due to several legal restraints. If you’re going to complain, blame the law not arenanet.

I’m sorry, but if the reason for the ban on minors is the “legal restrictions”… To me, that’s just complete and utter crap. I’ve participated in a wide variety of such events before, be it for video games, card games- whatever, and nothing of this sort ever existed. It’s a complete outrage. I feel that this isn’t so much a ban based on legal issues as it is just a ban based on personal biases. If I/my family have to pay ourselves, so be it. But I’m absolutely infuriated that this is what I get for any contributions to the community that I’ve made. Hell, if this is gonna be the case, I can just email all of y’all my spreadsheets with all of the mathematical information that I’ve deduced from hours and hours of mulling over various problems. I guess it’s worth nothing to me now, given that I can’t do crap with it.

This is absolutely insane. I am horribly disappointed with ANet on this ruling.

If anything, I’d like to see another balance patch after this event. This is the perfect opportunity to see where the real tournament meta is at, what is overpowered/under used and also what changes can be made for the spectators enjoyment.

I hope this event is promoted extensively because I have not heard of a GW2 tournament of this size as yet, so this could be the first official BIG tournament with a decently large pot. This is the kind of tournament I’m sure many have been waiting for, the timing is right and success for more events of this scale can be gauged by the interest it generates.

BTW – does this event have a name? I for one would like to see a cool name for the tournament. It would be nice too if the team that wins get some sort of personal title so they can show it off in-game. Also will this be streamed? I’m not familiar at all with PAX but I would definitely watch an event like this.

please for the love of god, ranger longbow. make it work better than it currently is! ranger community has been waiting patiently and it would help so much in pvp it isn’t even funny anymore.

Anyway, maybe all hope is not lost and you can discuss with Anet (and other minors too) about participating in these over 18+ tournaments as long as you have a legal guardian that can travel with you and accept the prize money on your behalf. Other then that, I think the rules are fair (have you ever participated in a tournament with a money prize that you had to travel as a minor?)

I’m angry, and, I think, rightfully so.

Of course, no it doesn’t solve world hunger; rather, it measures the marginal benefits of an additional point of some given stat or another. Either way, I’m not sure why you decided to suddenly bring up world hunger, but hey, not that it really matters. Also, I never wanted to share it to benefit people, but given that it looks less and less likely that I’ll be able to actually use what I’ve developed to do something useful, I’m very much considering just giving it away.

Sure, I might consider discussing this with ANet, but I doubt that I can change anything.

Good Luck to anyone that doesn’t meant the requirements on staying on a team or finding a future team while the possibility of their nonavailability to compete remains.
