Hi there, I want to address a fairly common issue that happens when playing in pvp. I’ve briefly checked the forums and haven’t seen any on the subject, but apologize in advance if a similar thread has already been made.
Occasionally while playing a pvp match, a team of 5 will be pitted against a team of 4. It could be a game bug I’m not aware about, but I’m inclined to believe that it’s because of the players logging out or by other methods stopping the game from making them participate. In other times, individuals will just leave a match. Regardless, this creates a large problem for all the players that participate, as the team missing players will face a significant disadvantage. From my experience, both the loss of a player and the demoralizing effect that has on the team has always lead the other team winning by a landslide. Many times the team of 5 will just try to finish the match quickly out of courtesy. It is upsetting that a game could be flopped just by an irresponsible individual.
So I suggest a penalty to be added to those who decides to prematurely leave a match in order to deter this kind of action. Of course I understand when players disconnect and I empathize with them, so the trick is to create a significant enough penalty to stop people from leaving when a match doesn’t go their way, yet light enough to not hinder those who do disconnect.
And so, I recommend that after a premature exit that there be a cooldown of 25 minutes before that player can join another pvp match. I believe this will convince the players to stick with the entire match in order to play the next game faster while not significantly hampering with people who disconnect. I think 25 minutes is light enough so that players can go pve or wvw for a short while before being allowed to pvp again. To address those that log off for a period, I also suggest that those 25 minutes only count down while that player is logged in.
I do want input from fellow players over this suggestion. Do you think a penalty is warranted? Do you think the penalty is fair? Too long? Too short? Or do you think a different type of penalty would be better? It is my hope that with your input that this suggestion can be both refined and publicized to the point where ANET can both acknowledge the issue as well as implement a refined solution that the playerbase has come up with.
Thanks in advance,
Ara
