I actually have alot of trust and respect for the devs, but with the recent PVP change of ONLY being able to queue up in the mist leads me to believe that the Devs are unaware that people do not play games to wait.

For those unaware, the old system allowed people to run events, kill champs, and what not while they’re queued up for a PVP match. That helped take the sting away from bad queue times because, you know, waiting upwards of 10-15 minutes for a match to start isn’t THAT bad if you’re doing something else in game.

I understand the the PVP-queue change was made in order to put everyone in the zone at the start of the match. But instead of forcing people to wait in the mists, why not revert to the old system, but have people force pop in ~20-30 seconds before the match starts?

Similarly, trait hunting. The fun of “skill captures” in GW1 has been removed from most “trait hunting” situations in GW2. The major difference is that in GW1, the players can go ON THEIR OWN TIME. They’re not forced to sit around waiting for an event to start.

In an ideal situation, acquiring a trait should reflect what the trait does (i.e: falling to your death unlocks the 1/2 damage from falling trait). But failing that, a possible solution for needlessly waiting for events to start is to move all of the traits dependent on champions/events into skill challenges/communes.

If people are forced to do something outside of game while waiting for queue times/events to start, then why would they play the game?

What do you all think?

I think that there are at least five other threads front page with a similar tone you could have posted on.

The Warhammer MMO (so old it is gone now) had queues which would allow you to continue what you were doing and then give you notice when everyone was ready, allow you to say “yes” or “no” and then bring you to the location.

If an older MMO can do it I don’t see why GW2 can’t.

it’s this luck based mystic toilet that we’re all so sick of flushing our money down. -Salamol

Here are the Dev responses for exactly why the queue is in the Mists posted over in the sPvP sub-forum:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Forced-Entry/first#post4601511

If you can queue from anywhere, what happens when the match is ready while someone is loading, in a cutscene, or talking to a scout? I doubt people want the match-ready UI to stay up for 90+ seconds while the slowest player loads and maybe decides to accept. We also can’t just give dishonor to people who miss the queue because they are loading, or watching a personal story cut scene as that seems unfair. These problems led us to the compromise we have now, but we are open to other options!

I’m sure the Devs would appreciate any feedback in that very thread, or at least, in that sub-forum where it would be easier to find. =)

Good luck.

I thought it would bother me more, but I don’t mind waiting in HotM for my matches to start. Map chat is entertaining enough, and it makes us take PvP a bit more seriously, something you have to fully commit to.

Under the old system of 5 min+ queue times this would have been horrid, but even during off-peak hours I don’t have to wait very long.
