YES I KNOW THERE IS NO HOLY TRINITY!

But a bunker is, basically, a tank. And DPS is … er, DPS. And the option is available for some classes to roll healers(Staff Ele, Guardian & Mesmer off the top of my head). The system is flexible enough for you to decide what kind of spec you want to roll.

My question is this: In your opinion, would it be worth it to roll a healer in tPvP? As a Mesmer, I can heal people pretty well in PvE/WvW and have been considering a PvP support build, but would it be worth it on a competitive team? Lower damage but high defense, and about 4k AoE heals (burst heal + regen) every 3.5 seconds?

No. Tpvp gives little opportunity for you to heal more than two players on a point. For it to be effective you would have to be fighting a 5v5 death match or have a group large enough to heal.

They are looking for players that can (a) hold points and (b) can kill enemies that try to take the points.

I meant team composition. 2 bunkers, 1 roamer, 2 dps? ect. Since its conquest, why not just run 5 bunkers and call it a day?

Bunkers are not tanks.
Bunkers live to not die.
Tanks live to help others survive.

No healer after that crazy ele one ages back is worth it. It could rez people who were dead, not just downed, and pull off occasional 15~k spike heals on allies.
‘Team fights’ in instanced PvP rarely go over 3 on 3s and if pugging you will spend the vast majority of your time in smaller fights…
You can’t aoe heal near enough to make it worthwhile, especially on a mesmer.

Around 1:18:00 or so during the discussions.

Personally if your Mesmer and a support build then I recommend a build that does semi conditions and cleansing tank more over healing mass amount but, healing Mesmer can’t contribute as much as an Elementalist in most cases.

Mesmer need that perplexity runes in PvP.

To answer your question, people usually hate running more than 2 of the same profession, since each profession has it’s strengths. And as garethh said, bunkers are there to die, not to keep others alive — their purpose is to keep a point active/neutralized for as long as possible. Usually there is only one bunker, but there are a few teams who prefer to run two.

In reality, though, it all depends on the map and how experienced each person is on a specific profession. And then tactics are formulated around the team strengths and weaknesses.

And to answer the topic at hand: no, it is not worth running healer in a competitive team, because tPvP is not very similar to PvE/WvW, and you won’t contribute as much to the team if you don’t have a decent DPS output, because the other team will most likely outplay your heals a majority of the time.

Basically the core requirement to almost every team is 1 bunker, 1 roamer, 1 dps. You can then build the rest of the team around what you specifically want to do. Also remember that certain builds like Eles can bunker, roam, and DPS all in one (although weaker than any dedicated build), so its hard to say the comp.

Some bunker specs can be more healing oriented. Has definitely been a life saver for the DPS or roamers in many instances.

There is a holy trinity. Unfortunately Anet picked the wrong one -Guardian,mesmer,thief- .

No healing classes resulted in classes taking on healing/get out of jail cards themselves. This resulted in OP classes such as the ones mentioned above.

Also, this along with the downed system, encouraged lack of synergy and individual play. Everyone is doing their own thing. People come to an MMO to play together and get a more rewarding experience. If I wanted to solo play i’d hit my Android.

It was an original idea but unfortunately some original ideas sound good only on paper.

I play a healing/support ranger with a decent amount of power. I have 1213 healing, 2625 attack, and a crap-ton of defensive boons.

All-in-all, I think it works amazing as a healing build. I’ve been known to get 30-40 seconds of regen on my allies, and stop people from being wiped mid-combat.

There is no dedicated healing in this game but trust me there are builds that put out a lot of healing in small ammounts and it does help win fights. My guardian can constanly kick out 1k aoe dodge heals (probably 4 every 15 seconds or so taking into account weapon swap and vigor procs) and 2.3k aoe staff heals (every 16 seconds) and they do help a lot. Do the math and thats roughly 6k healing every 16 seconds for anyone I can get in range plus any regen I may have in the spec im running. Really it may be too much aoe healing for a game that is not suppossed to have much. Most heal skills are on 30-40 second timers and only heal the person for 6k in comparison. My build is not some exteme heal power spec either it is a pretty standard guardian build with my own tweaks of course.
