There needs to be harsher punishments for going AFK during matches. I’ve reported a certain player at least 3 times for intentionally AFKing and still, I get him in my matches all the time. I only queue now when he’s in a match because I’ll get stuck with him 3 times in a row, and he’ll kitten and moan the entire match every game.

Anyway, that’s neither here or there. The problem is I’ve reported him, the enemy team has reported, my team has reported him, and he still plays all day every day. No punishment for screwing us over multiple times.

He quit no less than 2 minutes into the match because he lost a 1v1 at home. That was our thief’s fault, though, obviously.

Anyway, I wish Anet would take our reports seriously and give us a “Report for AFK” button. When we do report players for AFKing, most of the time someone asks, “What do we use to report him?”

It just seems logical to have a specific button for that.

lol just chalk it up to ANet’s forced 50/50 win on solo queuers, and move on. That game was probable a loss anyways even before that person went afk.

This treads are funny, first.. the same way you are stuck with him , hes also stuck with you, and if you are playing thief and are perma down ,how do you think he feels when u are in his team?
Any way im sure its easy to blame the guy that whent afk then to think WHY HE WENT AFK , every one thinks hes a pro and yet they are stuck in divisions.
I actually stop playing pvp almost a month because pvp atm is a mess :

Bad macth making
Class staking
Players with 0 clue and awereness
Pugs vs premades
( and then this is why we get afkers)

Now im not talking about top players , because those will reach legend in the first week due to good play and beeing in a party, now a casual player that is decent will reach legend in 3-4 weeks EVEN WITH ALL THOSE PROBLEMS I WROTE ABOVE, so if u r still stuck , im sorry to tell you but , its time to look at your game play and stop blaming everything else.

There have been a lot of topics on this. Most people agree they need to be punished but how, you run the risk of losing them. I think working on why they AFK is a better solution.

I am one of those players who go afk. If i see that there is no match, if i see that my team is nuked every time in teamfights , if i see that we are not able to keep a single point , why should i have to lose time on this ? if i do /sleep or if i play it is the same thing , but with a huge difference : i can play only 2 hours a day in the evening ( I am a worker ) , so for me it is better to lose in 5 minutes than in 15 . It happened to me many time in the first part of ruby division , now i am diamond and it seems a little better ( the last part of ruby for me was really good, win and loss, win and loss but i had fun and good matches, i play for having fun , not for a virtual title ) .

I got matched with a guy like this yesterday 3 times in a row. I reported him the three times. I had to add him on my “friends” list and wait for him to get into a match.

After getting rid of him, I won 3 matched in a row.

There’s nothing we can do about this.

I go afk when we start losing a lot, like 200-300 points down and it’s obviously a lost cause I’ll go afk. The faster it finishes the better I can move onto the next game. I never afk after 1 team wipe or 2 though.

A lot of people refuse to believe that the game is unwinnable and that there could be ‘comebacks’ but 99% of the time it’s not gonna happen and I generally can’t be bothered tryharding just to carry some guys who imo don’t deserve the win anyway.

So, as an experienced Player u think now. Ok thief went far and should´ve win this cause otherwise it makes no sense to weaken ur team in mid.

He lost it as thief, so he must be a noob. Thief don´t die if they realizes they can´t win a 1 vs 1 . Return to mid and help ur members but he didn´t. So its actually a 4 vs 5.

U relizes that ur team can´t handle a 3 vs 4 mid so blame the thief what he´s kittening doing and blame him for being a nobb? Or going afk? Or be slaughtered again and again and again?

I find it amazing how many keyboard warriors who spend the entire match typing essays on how the rest of their team sucks end up with the lowest or second lowest personal score on their side. I know that personal score isn’t a great indicator of how much you’re actually contributing in GW2’s PvP but I can’t see that typing volumes about how bad your own team is does much for your chances.

I had a match on Niflhel where someone spent the entire second half of the match constantly complaining (and I mean constantly, as in line, after line, after line with no breaks) about how terrible we were and moaning about being matched with such terrible players and then… we won. He was so focused on moaning that he didn’t even see that the remaining 4 players had managed to turn it around. It didn’t feel like a victory though.

We definitely need this, there’s no point in wasting all day on a match if its 100% for sure that you’re not gonna win, best to hurry up and end it so you can move on to the next hopefully better match.

Every experienced player would wait to see what’s actually going on before deciding. Considering how big the difference between player skills and experience can be in a ranked match these days, class matchups are not a sure way of assessing loss/victory.

Funny thing about Foefire is that the snowball effect works both ways. Just as it’s easy to snowball into an advantage, it’s also easy for opponents to turn a single lucky point fight into an full-blown reverse.

What are u going to do?

Outrotate, try to disrupt the opposing team’s flow in order to make them start making mistakes. You’d be surprised how often that works. I have won Foefire games that were at 150-200 points loss initially that way. And i’m not a good player.

Sometimes opponents that were easily wiping the floor with you moments before just come totally apart if you change the game from one of individual skill to one of strategy, mobility and map awareness.

Can’t win the 3v4 fight at mid? Don’t go mid. Make them split between far and close. If they happen to split wrong, snowball them. If you are still behind, try to ninja lord at 350. Or, if they go your lord, wipe them there and get some points capped.
Might not work, of course… but you won’t know until you actually try.

If you give up at the beginning, then it’s a much bigger cause of failure than that “useless” thief. Because he at least tried, while you didn’t even do that much.

Sadly, it’s all too common to have a match that could have been won by smart play lost instead by someone giving up.

Pretty much this.

Ele first to die on mid fight;
Thieves dying 1v1;
Only ele on team swap to engi and says “going far”;
Guy rushes lord after 2 minutes of match started;
etc etc

There are many situations that happen at the start of the match and by your experience you just can tell it is not worth your time/effort of trying. Everyone should be able to carry their own weight and do their class’ job, if they can’t, I don’t see a reason for trying hard.

The best games come out of comebacks. If you give up a game because u are 100 points behind, there is no help for you.
I have won games that started as 4v5 and my team was loosing but we managed the comeback when the last guy appeard.
In the game that gave me legend this season my team was behind 40 to 250 points but with the correct rotation we managed to get both buffs and then hold all 3 points on temple which turned the tables.

460-350 is diff from 350-0 lol. Like I said, it’s situational.

Oh you mention ranked, well I never AFK ranked but I AFK unranked if it’s a lost cause by far. Ranked I always try since I know people care about their pips and wins. Unranked? Nahhhhhhhhh.

I wasn’t playing thief. I was playing ele. The thief wasn’t permadowned, either. He was pertty good.

I do the same thing, man. I had this one guy on my block list, but forgot to check if he was in HOTM when I queued up. Sure enough, here we go.

ALSO I feel like I should mention this screenshot was taken a few minutes after he actually went AFK. He went AFK after he lost his 1st 1v1. At that point the score was like 30-0 by the time he respawned.

Ofc dont get me wrong i have won games that i was losing 300- 70 and i kep playing , but again thats because i know that we had a bad start and we over rotate and 1 of us had to afk like 30 seconds or wtv, but i could see we were wining team fights easy, and good rotation and peeling..etc etc.

If your answer is yes, then go back out there and keep fighting. Keep trying to win those 1v2s or 1v3s. Look for strategic openings to capture points. Work on your rotations. Work on your map awareness. Learn your strengths and weaknesses.

Even if you are absolutely sure you are losing because you have a bad team, use the time to practice. As good as you think you may be, there is always someone better, and always a higher level of skill to strive for. And there is no better time to improve than being impossibly outmatched.

Most importantly, just have fun. I used to be guilty of raging at team members before I learned to chill out. If you’re not down with the whole practice thing, do silly stuff like seek out a 1v1 and dance on their corpse if you clinch it. Win, lose, if you’re angry at the game, you’re not having fun, and that’s no way to play.

Last time I AFK the other team had 2 eles, 2 engis and 1 warrior. Mid was lost before I capped home, whole team dead. You know when a game is completely hopeless and you just want it to end so you can get to the next one. I dont have unlimited play time, sometimes only manage 3 games a night. Watching my minutes tick away in a losing match I want to end. Theres nothing to learn here except how to get smashed as fast as possible.

What about the hundreds of others that have played 24k or more games? Are you better or worse than them?

If you go afk because you’re down in points, don’t like your team, whatever reason, let’s just get this straight:

You are children. You are the teammate nobody will ever want on their team. Nobody respects you. You are not a good player and you should not be allowed back into ranked matches until after a significant time out. You do not deserve your teammates who try their best to win.

When we were down 460-350 a couple days back, we rallied and killed lord, winning 510-492. If people like you had been on our team, people that gave up and went afk, we would have lost that match. Throw your tantrum elsewhere, we shouldn’t have to suffer for it.

I know its hard for u too undertand, but even trying your best there is games that u are not going to win, because all your team is heavy counter by the other , u lose all team fights, u have no capps and they are wining like 300- 70 .
U are just feeding 1 by 1 , u just cant win such games, and players like u can just see they are lost when the game is 490- 100 and other players can see it when there is 300- 70.
Ofc dont get me wrong i have won games that i was losing 300- 70 and i kep playing , but again thats because i know that we had a bad start and we over rotate and 1 of us had to afk like 30 seconds or wtv, but i could see we were wining team fights easy, and good rotation and peeling..etc etc.
But again i tell u , you need to look at the full picture, and understand the situation, can u win? Do u have a chance?
If u have the skill to be able to call gg at 300-70 then u know why your team mate is afk if u cant then for u hes the reason u not gonna win.
The MM is far from perfect and the skill between player in the same team some times its huge, and this is why some afk and some dont.

It’s not hard for me to understand at all. Let me put it another way: are you still trying to improve? Could you get any better?

If your answer is yes, then go back out there and keep fighting. Keep trying to win those 1v2s or 1v3s. Look for strategic openings to capture points. Work on your rotations. Work on your map awareness. Learn your strengths and weaknesses.

Even if you are absolutely sure you are losing because you have a bad team, use the time to practice. As good as you think you may be, there is always someone better, and always a higher level of skill to strive for. And there is no better time to improve than being impossibly outmatched.

The difference on experience is abysmal.

Im not saying afk as soon the game starts for no reason.
I have no idea who you are , but i assume you have little experience in pvp and strugling to win games and u chose to blame the afk player.
Im trying to explain u that MM is bad and in some cases really really bad, that even before ga starts there is a team that has bigger chances to win and should win.

Now the reason a player would afk at 300-70 with no capps and team is perma down and feeding 1 by 1, is to save time , U CANT WIN SUCH GAMES.
I have games that i win 1vs2 far and my team dies at mid in seconds.
I know the game is only lost when the other team reaches 500.
But some players dont need to wait untill the other team reaches 500 to understand this, no 1 is trowing the game they know the game its lost they accept the outcome that is all.
People just die when heart stops right?

Funny as we all pvf here, it just happened in a match for me. In diamond.

Game starts, we split mid home.
We go, fight, some people die, some people don’t, etc etc.
Eventually around 200~ points to each team, close game, our team start dying mid, we lose the fight.
They gonna have an ele bunkering it, so I decided that the best rotation was to play sides.
I respawn, push far. Start fighting a necro, when a second enemy comes, a thief. We fight for few moments, I downed both 1v2, killed both.
Only then my teamate engi arrives, see both guys dead, turn his back and leaves me with 10% hp, deathshroud on cd, against a revenant that just had arrived with 100% hp.

This is the type of mistake that costs matches. This is why people afk. I didn’t afk after it because we got the lead on points out of that and eventually won. But I’m sure as hell that guy, that one engi who saw me win a 1v2 and left me to die against a third player, does not deserve to win that match at all. That guy is not an innocent. That guy is the type of player that is the reason of experienced players decide to go afk.

There were mentions of giving up before the game started, or after the first clash, and at those points you are not yet at 25 to 350. Though if you do give up so easily, you will soon be.

Add the option to concede rather than punishing people for wanting the game to be over. Then the annoying ones who want the games to drag out can really annoy people as well.

Then litterally afk after the opening fight at mid. This is unforgivable. Players that let the game end because they think it’s gonna end quicker are harming the team way more then 4 noobs could do. fights are outnumbered, holding points get harder, forcing decaps gets harder. And espically if that guy that AFK get’s kittening wiped before me in my case. People have no justifcation for afk’ing. Spitefull behaviour it is. And yes the 4 players are innoncent. They paid for the game just as you did, they like you are better then others and also share the burden of having to play with people below their level.
