I checked the pinned “start here” thread and have looked around briefly for an explanation of ranked q’s and the points system.

I was told that switching classes before and/or during a match will prevent point gains, and after seeing my points gains (or the lack there of, seems like some wins don’t even get a point, hard to keep track with the slow updates of leaderboard) with wins.

If there is a thread that has a run down of the season 2 points system, could anyone please link it, thank you

I think one thing that would clear up a lot of confusion would just be to tell people after the match how many points they won or lost. Between the hour long updates on the leaderboard to the leaderboard not updating at all its hard to tell how you are gaining points.

You get a grace period of at least 30 seconds (as far as I know this is not outlined explicitly anywhere) where you won’t lose a point if you log out of the game and come back in time every match. You can use it to change classes.

So that page was updated about a week ago “to match live”. It looks like there are a number of changes, some of which are different between ranked and unranked.

Was this a change that had been made a long time ago, or, say… just to throw an arbitrary date out there… Friday, March 27th.

Edit: Sorry if this sounds snarky, and I genuinely have respect for the work that you do, it’s just that one mode constantly throws me into losses and the other one doesn’t, and that didn’t happen until that date.

dont need to say sorry, given the state of sPvP as is, you have every reason to to be snarky. Anet has done a terrible job (at least in terms of class balance and other sPvP related issues), it’s no surprise many are fed up with them.

Yeah, but I’ve had a lot of trollish posts recently and feel bad about it. They’re doing their best and trying to make a better experience overall, so they’re not exactly against us. And in the past, I’ve been helped personally by Justin. At least we aren’t in a game where you can buy your way to leaderboard position.

I think there are serious problems with matchmaking and maintain their system is especially bad for average/slightly-below-average players. But it’s too easy to just be a jerk.

Thank you, however I’ve read through that already and still can’t find an answer to the question I want answered most.

Can we change classes before and/or during a match? -Can you answer this directly?

Because the system might try and minimize duplicate classes for those of us playing roaming dps classes the issue of having point holders is all too real when Q’ing. Side note, League of Legends implemented a team builder Q some time ago, and might be worth looking into.

I have a question about profession specific rating. I might be wrong, but I think some time ago (must be a few months now) I’ve read on this forum profession-specific rating is disabled for the time being. If I’m reading that link correctly it should be enabled. I was wondering if it is indeed enabled and if so, how does switching profession affect this rating? This is regarding both unranked and ranked modes.

Switching classes is treated just like any other disconnect. The game doesn’t know if you’ve gone to character select, or chopped your internet connection with an axe.

Yes but does it treat it like a normal disconnect as in if you log back within a time period its fine, eg. switching classes before the timer runs out pre-game??

Or will you get you a disconnect regardless if you ever log back in and play the matchup therefore acting as a loss, yet you came back and won.

I feel the question is still not answered.

There is a 30 seconds grace period, so as long as you can change characters between those 30 seconds there should be no problem.

It’s acumulative, that is, if you change characters (it takes you 15 secs) and then you DC because of lag (taking this, for example 20 secs) it will count as a loss regardless of the final outcome of the match (because you have acumulated 35 seconds of DC).

Hope this helps.

Evan… I.. common man… I want you to please hit control+f on the page you linked me, and then you tell me if the word disconnect is even used, it’s not. Even in the dishonor section which you’d assume might have something to do with disconnects there is no information on the effects of disconnects from matches.

And while we’re there, “Dishonor is one of the methods used to encourage good sportsmanship…Each stack represents a duration that decays over time”. Evan… The wiki doesn’t even explain how you get it; the wiki just describes the ways in which you’ll be kittened after receiving it and that it will continue to stack if your behavior does not reflect good sportsmanship.

Back to the actual question, after a direct query about if switching classes would effect points and/or the matchmaking system you explain to me how the game reads a disconnect when there is NO reference to the consequences of a disconnect. Come on…

My question again, are players allowed to change classes before and/or during ranked Q’s? Please…

Seems like, but I don’t think it’s used for most stuff. It’s just as good for some random scripts like the ones for matchmaking. I’m happy with that though, python is a great language (I still use it to build up random stuff).

To answer your question:

Leaving before or during for any reason will result in 0 points gain. Also, if you’re in a party with that person who left, the rest of the party (not the team) will receive a forfeit status (counted as a loss or 0 points gain… I don’t remember).

It somewhat explains it in the wiki Evan linked:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm#Ladder

if game.result == 'desertion':
    finalScore = 0

Penalty reason="Abandon"    stacks="10"

Reason the dishonor is being awarded. Abandon: leaving a match before the end. QueueDodge: leaving or failing to confirm you’re ready for a match. Banned: When a GM determines you may no longer participate in ranked or unranked arena.

NOT true.
Because we got a grace-period.

As long as you are not longer away as (i believe) 60 seconds, you still get points. Tested and proofed by myself.. I sadly have to switch due to stacked classes or stacked turret engies (i love my staff ele..). It takes me approx 20seconds to switch chars and i still get my +points on the leaderboard.

AFAIK, dishonor is inactive atm, so the wiki is misleading.

It’s pretty hard to know where we are at, as they are changing things and parameters all the time, like https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Ladder-Test-Season-Changes-3-27/first#post4925563

A specific and simple question was asked, yet 2 red replies still don’t address it.

Instead, we get replies filled with contradicting information…despite having 2 Anet posts.

This thread is ironically indicative of the game in general.

Anet does a great job with complex things like combat mechanics…yet fails so miserably addressing relatively simple and obvious things like Flesh Golem AI, turret engies, PvP leaderboards, etc.

If you look at the wiki, you’ll note that at some point, class-specific MMR was turned on and its effect weighted at 0.25.

This is why I linked you the wiki page.

As others have mentioned, if you are disconnected for longer than the grace period then your game result and any party members’ results are considered a desertion. Other team members will receive a forfeit if they lose.

Desertions will cause your ladder points to update as if you had earned zero team score:

if game.result == ‘desertion’:
finalScore = 0

This results in the most harsh ladder point update for the odds bracket the match fell into. i.e If you were heavily favored to win, you will receive -3 points. If you were disfavored to win, you will receive -1 points:

<Ladder default=“0” min=“0” max=“1000000” leaderboard-points=“1”>

Evan, do forfeits count as losses on the leaderboard and are they reflected in your displayed W/L ratio? Furthermore, does the winning team against the team with a deserter still get credit as usual? Lastly, if you win as a team with a deserter do you still get credit for the match?

For the leaderboard and in-game UI:
Wins include victories and byes.
Losses include defeats, forfeits, and desertions.

Winning against a team with a deserter results in a bye.
If you win with a deserter on your team, it is still a victory.

Ok, so my p.j. salt meter is pretty high right now I’m really amazed how a simple question could be answered so indirectly in so many ways.

I proposed the question openly to the forums looking for general information on season two but more specifically wanted information on character swapping. Perhaps I could have made it more clear that my entire reason for being here. I did not expect a Dev to chime in; however since you’ve been kind enough to try and help I’ve addressed all questions to you. Because what a Dev says is word of law, right? So unless someone can provide factual prof of claim, I’m not gonna bank on them being knowing what they’re talking about… Just look at this thread two completely contradictory opinions manysongsgw & Meri.

This thread feels like I asked you how to make a PB&J n you start telling me you can use crunchy peanut butter, then telling me what type of nuts are in the crunchy peanut butter.

By piecing together the different posts for what is a SIMPLE question… We’ve gotten to, Yes you can switch if you do so in the grace period provided. But again there’s a reference to something with no definition, never is the grace time mentioned by you, a Dev who is presumably in the know. You reference the community players who have answered but not even they can agree. How can you reference two different opinions in that way?

The DIRECT answer to my original question regarding swapping I would imagine look a little like this: Yes, you may swap classes before and/or during a match so long as the swap is completed within the grace period, which lasts for (“X”)seconds. After which… (blah blah blah all the other stuff that’s been posted here regarding the points/matchmaking). Notice how no new terms are introduced without an explanation of their meaning in GW2 sPvP… just my two cents, and yes I really am still curious and would like an answer if possible because it’s frustrating to wait upwards of 9 minutes only to have a somewhat meta comp on one side and a full roaming no point control comp on the other when you’re capable of switching given you’re allowed to.

1 min which is how it is now as i understand, this applies to all disconnects and is cumulative meaning all a single players disconnects and switching (which is just a disconnect as far as game is concerned) can total only one min, regardless of the number of disconnects that player experiences in a single match

The two statements were not contradicting. Yes, I forgot to mention the grace period, which Meri added, but the rest still applies if you reconnect after the grace period. As for how long the grace period is, I don’t know, but seems like people say 1 minute.

You could just experiment all of this yourself instead of raising your sodium levels. Cheers.

Switching classes is treated just like any other disconnect. The game doesn’t know if you’ve gone to character select, or chopped your internet connection with an axe.

Is there a way that when you disconnect and log back in, it automatically loads you back into the pvp map on the class you were originally playing?

That would fix 2 problems. The double loading screen (very annoying) and people switching classes during a match.

Basically you would block people from swapping classes after a match starts and as a bonus it would get rid of the double loading screen and pop your right back into a match when you relog.
