Will the Ladder system be implemented in teams or as solo players? To quote the blog “Players will be divided into divisions”. I really feel this is missing a trick and hope that the infrastructure you’re talking about laying down is to do with setting up PvP teams! I appreciate that it is difficult to give a definitive answer at this stage but would love to hear what the plan is at the moment.

Healing skills like Signet of Resolve are affected by traits that also affect utilities. On the assumption that a large number of the new heals will also do this, are there any plans to update current heals to do the same, and what is your general stance on this. As far as I’m concerned it pigeon holes certain heals into certain builds, rendering them otherwise useless. While not totally true of it Elixir H in the HgH Engineer springs to mind.

I have two questions that I think desperately need to be answered:

What is the justification for…

  1. Forcing PvP only players to level characters in PvE that they don’t like (I have one level 80, all of my alts are low level PvP characters) just so that they can unlock the new heals/utilities? This completely goes against everything GW2 has stood for in terms of skill > gear by giving everyone equal equipment and stats from the word go.

I just wanted to add here, the tomes of knowledge will give you skill points if your character is level 80. You’re not necessarily being forced to do pve, besides once the new healing skill is unlocked in either aspect of the game it’s unlocked everywhere.

That’s a fair point, thank you, but it still doesn’t explain why players who haven’t unlocked the new skills will be at a disadvantage to those who have. The whole premise of PvP in this game is that all gear, stats, skills, and traits are unlocked for everyone so that everyone is on a level playing field and only skill matters. This addition completely undermines that premise.

One of my primary concerns with the coming PvP changes is the removal of finishers. I enjoy PvP, but I’m not ambitious or skilled enough to earn a high leaderboards rank; so while it may seem insignificant to some, earning new finishers—particularly the phoenix finisher—had been my long-term goal.

Can the PvP team discuss their plans or ideas for new long-term goals? I’d be very interested to see what they’re thinking about implementing, even if it doesn’t make it into the game.

Is this going to be another one-sided hyped up rubbish about “Look at the fantastic things we are bringing to this game!” video? When will ever be REAL engagement between players and developers? Is it really SO bad to remove finishers, and AFFIRM the actions of Skyhammer farmers who go into soloQ games thinking that they are actually good?

So many questions left unanswered, will they be addressing it in any live stream? The Anet drama saga.. continues!

Alright, these are my ideas. They are not really questions but what I would love for you to implement into the game with all this new content.

  • PvP Gametypes
    (I think we’re all tired of playing the same old domination no matter what game you go to) Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Attack and Defend, FFA Deathmatch, etc.
  • Dueling Arenas
    I’m pretty sure we’ve all wanted this since the beginning and not to mention this would be integrated into the ladder system and be the only solo ladder up there so you can get your name recognized. I feel this should be the only way to get your name on the ladder system as well as other solo games (not being hot join or solo queue as those are still team games) and the other ladders are for team names.
  • Teams
    I mentioned this at the end of my last bullet and yes I know we already have guilds but I feel teams should be different than guilds. I mean nobody has over 100 players on a team and all compete for the same PvP team, that’s for guilds. One thing different about PvP is that you can play with people on different servers and that’s why I think teams on PvP should be different than guilds on PvE and your team name will be what is posted on all team played gametype ladders. Teams will have an easier time getting together and can setup scrimages as well as playing together. Playing PvP with someone is so much more fun than playing solo and implementing a feature like this will really get this game more competitive, more social, and overall a more core aspect of the game.
  • PvP Gear
    As far as PvP gear goes I would hope that it would look like “PvP Gear”. I liked some of what people were saying as far as having capes with a bronze, silver, or gold trim marking and distinguishing you in PvE as well as PvE. PvP legendaries was also another great idea. I also feel as though getting some gear should be more than just a random chest or random forge. Having to purchase the top tier gear would be a good idea as long as it’s with a currency you can only get in PvP or an achievement system would work as well.
  • Team Sizes
    A lot of people have the issue of playing Team Queue because they can’t find that one last player or they can’t find those 2 or 3 other players. Give the option of having 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, etc. I feel that unless you implement my idea on teams instead of guilds for PvP than it really is hard trying to gather a team together. I mean most all guilds focus on WvW with their large numbers so It’s really all about spamming the chat when you get there hoping someone will actually respond and then finding 3 more people.
  • Ranks
    This one seems to be the biggest concern from the community about keeping their ranks and finishers for all the hard work and time they’ve put into the game. I can see where they’re coming from but at the same time if you have a better and cooler idea and that involves taking ranks away then go for it. I’m sure if you’re taking away ranks you have another horizontal progression in mind and it’s better to do it sooner than later. Now if you don’t have another ranking system by time played (hopefully changed to games won and not lost) in thought to replace the current one then I suggest you do for the sake of how many people truly care about their rank more than making the game a better game to play so you avoid all the hate. >.>
  • Integrated Voice Chat
    Another HUGE game changer to hot joins and solo queues would be an integrated voice chat. It would solve so much as far as acting as a team and communication. This would work for both PvE and PvP so that voice chat would be enabled while you’re in a group for dungeons, WvW, and regular team gameplay/progression as well as whenever you’re in a PvP match with other teammates.

Anyways all in all I think the most important ones for me would be the integration of a team system, voice chat, and more gametypes. Thanks you Anet for actually communicating with the community on changes and for the first time in any mom I’ve played actually focusing on making PvP a core aspect of the game.

Currency substituting glory for gold essentially equates to being able to spend your future PvP “earnings” & stored “glory” currency at different “merchants” than the glory vendors only (even enables gem store via in-game gem purchases). I ask myself, why would I (just a lowly dolyak) want to purchase non PvP items from those other “gold merchants”? Just to be able to “display” non PvP items in PvP? Personally, what I’d like to spend my PvP currency on is “trophies” that I can display not just in PvP but in the other venues as well (PvE & WvW). So far the ONLY PvP “trophy” (not title) that can be displayed outside of PvP is the rank finisher – and THAT is being scrapped.

I’m disappointed to see the rank finisher progression evaporate. Apparently, there is some concern in the community that ranks create class elitism (making it hard to join teams like the old GW1 HoH days) + with rank points farming, the ranks hold less “significance” & feels like cheating to a PvPer. To me, the rank emote is an in-game PvP item (earned, purchased, or farmed), not a symbol of skill (since it’s really acquired through grind anyway).

The inference of the above is that the intent of currency substitution is ONLY to enable PvP’ers to participate in the other parts of the games “market”. Although players can earn gold exceedingly quickly in PvE (dungeon running etc), I presume that ANET is trying to enable PvP’ers to more actively participate in TP (buying T6 mats for ascended armor/wep crafting) since PvP’ers don’t inherently want to farm PvE content for those items.

I only hope that the currency change actually has the “intended effect” of strengthening the PvP community (keeping the existing player base & expanding it). What I don’t see is the draw of new players into PvP by eliminating the PvP only trophies (rank emotes). But who knows, if a player can earn gold FASTER in PvP than PvE or WvW, maybe a population shift will occur. That combined with adding more achievement points could also draw in some of the generic achievement hunters. Then PvP’ers will get to stomp more noobs…

In any event, I don’t see anything in this change that it has ANYTHING to do with attempts to “stop” glory farmers, since it only turns them into gold farmers instead. My guess is that it will be slower to earn gold in PvP than in either PvE or WvW. Hmmm… why did zkeys just come to mind?

My thoughts as a mostly pve & wvw player on spvp
1. Rewards for spvp from chests is redundant and worthless. Keep getting the same stuff over and over again ad nauseum.
2. Saved glory to spend at next level but after first 2-3 chests it is just junk again. So how will that change?
3. Guess I could stand at the mystic toilet up there and try to make something better but why can’t we just get better drops instead of the same stuff over and over again?
4. The idea of somehow earning legendary skins in pvp is very bad. That would mean that it is just another skin. I don’t want to see every other toon running around w Juggernaut if they didn’t reallllly earn the darned thing. The only way it would be fair is if the people who have legendaries can just have a skin of it to use in pvp. Period. Any other way of obtaining it is going to cause another kitten storm like ANet trying to foist off poorly reskinned T3 cultural armor w glowy bits in the TP as a fresh skin . Taking months of work in this game and making it valueless does not seem like a good idea.
4. pvp seems to be getting further and further away from being a welcoming place for casual players. I am up to Dolyak probably as much as anything because of time spent playing not because I am great at pvp. Have basically quit doing much of it because hotjoin is painful and full of verbally abusive players – and I don’t see how dangling gold in front of folks is going to make it better. We shall see.

I fully agree, that if there is (very) fast way of obtaining Legendary (skins) for PvE via PvP, it s a bad idea.
But why cant there be a way for pvp players to get legendaries for pvp? If it is “hard enough”, whats the problem?
Is it rly you opinion, that only ppl who got their legendaries via PVE (!!!) should be allowed to get legendary skin for PVP?
No offense, but even a rank 2 player deserves it more to get a PvP Legendary, then any Legendary-wielding PvE(only)-player out there.

1. Can we expect a beta (similar to the ones for the edge of the mists) for the new PvP modes. And if yes, where do i sign up?
2. Are there any updates planned for the spiritwatch and Skyhammer maps? (to make them a likable addition to the tpvp rotation).
3. The 2v2 tournament showed that there is a huge demand for small (er) scale pvp like this (the stream peaked at 1500 viewers i believe). But as we saw there isnt a specific area within the current maps that is ideal for “2v2 arena”. Is a duel/skirmish arena something that could happen in the (near) future?
4. I would really love some community contests around possible new modes/pvp related ideas. I think pvp players are some of the most dedicated people that always think they know best. Giving them something to work with gives them the chance to put their money where their mouth is.

If you combined my 3rd and 4th question you could even let people design a layout for a 2v2 skirmish arena.

Just wanted to hop in and mention that we’ll also be talking about a few of the balance changes for each profession in addition to looking at the healing skills.

There is one thing i was wondering when thinking about balance. The difference in depth between GW2s classes/professions is relatively big. Is this an intentional thing to cater a broader target group? Or was the intention for all classes/professions to be quite similar; easy to get in to but hard to master?

Since 2013 is nearing a close, and what was promised in this blog post; https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/ for PvP basically has not happened, or has only come in pieces so far.

What are we going to see in the next year? Is this Ladder going to be some kind of an incentive for players to want to play and remain competitive? Will Guild Wars 2 be keeping conquest as its competitive game type? Please go into more detail about the new reward system that is being worked on, other than glory being removed when it is to be implemented, and gold will be the main currency across the board.

New Ladder

Is there going to be a definitive way to separate player skill, and skill tiers among players? Showing ratings, showing players ranks, or an actively working ladder, etc.

Rewards

If ranks are removed how are skins going to be given out? Is everything going to be given via gold? For example, I want Human Cultural T3 medium armor, can I work towards it, or do I need to jump through a variety of hoops just to get this armor set? Are there to be more or even less prestigious skins with the removal of ranks? Possibly, skins from the ladder, that are awarded from having high rating, and ranking.

Game Modes

IF conquest is scrapped as the competitive game mode would(should) it need to be a unanimous decision across the pvp community to change the game mode? Also, is it possible to see the maps for the new game modes that have been worked on?

Thats smart, giving PvE players the Living Story every 2 weeks and PvP players this developer show & tell thing every 2 weeks. Since its impossible and counterproductive to add new content as readily in PvP as PvE, i’d say most PvP players would think this is a fair deal. Discussing with devs and feeling that you are being heard is as important to us as living story is to the pve players.

I often feel locked into the ‘worse side’ in pvp. Will this be improved?

With worse side i mean worse players (you meet very bad players in match, remember them and end up with them in the next one). Or you get autobalanced there. Or higher ranked people on other side. But mostly meta professions in enemy team. Like:

Skyhammer: ranger, necro’s and warriors are best there because of the stunlocks, ranger pushback to kill ppl offplatform and stunlock from warriors.

Water map (forgot name): Rangers/mesmers in one team. If they are a bit good, they will hands down win underwater and big chance they will win because of that (unless the noob/experience ratio is really off, not confirming the profession advantage).

In spirits map: tanky profession/builds win. Cause they can gank the orb area and delay the enemy team very long. This is tanky/stealthy mesmers, warriors, guardians, necros, tanky engineers etc. A thief in this map barely means anything unless played very well.

This may be biased and lots of people will disagree but in hotjoin this is how it goes most of the time. It creates blowout scores, even if you play your best (like win 1 vs 5, i did that one time, not a straight 1 vs 5, but 1 vs 1 with 4 more ppl coming into you without giving you a chance to recover, killed them all, but guess what they still win). Situations like this are very frustrating. Ever since that i immediately leave when a situation like this is created. (so not 450-500 match ends, those are good). I do this to preserve my loss/win ratio, cause i find it undeserved to get a discount in these situations. What will the new system do? Will it punish me even more (basically permanently lock me in the loosing side no matter what, predetermining a loose added to the statistics, or are their measures against this?

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

If we go down the road of alternate game types, would you stick to tying them to PvE dynamic event types? I mean, instead of deathmatch or capture the flag, having an assault (attack/defense) or escort (reminiscent of Team Fortress 2’s Payload game type that’s essentially a moving control point) would be a good fit for GW2. Just like TF2, GW2 seems balanced primarily around the idea of taking and holding points.

There was a “big” 2v2 tournament not that long ago. It appeared to be quite enjoyable both from a viewer and a player pov. It doesnt have to start off as an MMR based mode either. Would be happy with a similar area/map as the GvG guys got (but with a few more objects; heightlevels and los to work with).

At times i play till (far too) late and i end up in a 1v1 or 2v2 hotjoin. Those are often the most enjoyable pvp skirmishes. Since its a bit less zergy and there is less focus on winning you can have a proper conversation about the fights aswell.

As Necro player i liked it up to the point, where you showed the new Necro heal. Then i stopped watching…

Man that skill is so bad, i cannot think of any situation where our other heals arent better…
