- Potluck Massacre [PLUM]
- Sanctum of Rall
There are people that have been doing SPvP daily since the games launch and they’re not at max rank. This makes no sense considering you can be level 80 in PvE in 2-3 days (or less if power leveled through dungeons by guildies). Further, there is little to no reward for ranking up.
Ranks need to be sped up drastically. PvP rewards need to be purchasable with glory rather than the obtuse RNG crafting system currently in place. Neither of these two things were addressed in the letter posted by ANET and both need to be.
no.
rank is not level. stop grinding all the game and pretend to do it fast. you want max rank? play more.
Its because the ranks do nothing (other than unlock apperance gear) that they can make them take forever.
r15 in HA in gw1 took 6 years or so. And that was an account played full time.
A-net want the highranked emotes (phoenix, dragon) as in gw1 to be something special, that just a few ppl will reach. Comparing Level and Rank doesnt make any sense to me.
Its hard to rank up so people can play more, test other classes and getting better.
Without pushing it.
Well, for the most ppl yes. But theres allrdy ppl which are r60+
I keep hearing this argument, pve =! Pvp, why would they make pvp rewards an easy 5 day grind like pve?.. PvP ranks show your hard earned skill, PVE rank means nothing.
And let’s hope those ‘glory ranks’ won’t matter much when they implement rating. Then those rank will just be something for fun progression and a cool finisher/emote.
True butch. I hope they will implement sooner or later something compared to champion-ranks. Cause the actual champion-titles (champion-phantom etc.) doesnt show any skill and can be reached by anyone.
People need to stop comparing the length of GW 1 rank aquirement to GW 2. They are ENTIRELY different. GW 1 awarded rank exponentially for winning, which meant good players got MUCH more fame than the bad ones. A truly good HA team could get 20 times more Fame effortlessly in one night than a bad team could get all week. 1) Because you had to win to get it 2) Because the Fame given increased exponentially with consecutive wins. The ranks in GW 1 for the most part were not only separated by time played, but by good players.
In GW 2, everyone and their grandma is awarded glory for as little as getting 5% damage on that guy who got downed by someone else. GW 2 does not incorporate skill into rank, it is purely based on time played. Sure, one can argue a “better” player will get more points in browser games, but that type of play style isn’t important in Tournament games and the way Tournaments run and awards are given out in tournament play now it’s not even worth playing them if you want to “rank”.
So at the end of the day, the higher ranked players are mainly the browser game spammers who, if you talk to many of them, have never even tournied before.
^That’s true. They should give greater glory rewards in tpvp or smaller in spvp.
I find the 500 glory gain after tpvp to be pointless after r40. u need to get so much glory to rank up, that is absurd compared to the effort of winning. A tournaments takes roughly 45 mins (without queue times, waiting time etc) that is far too long to get 500 glory after 1st place chest (if u get it), considering that u could next to double the amount in hot join in half the time.
yeah…. pretty much all i do is tpvp, and since i largely stopped spvping, my glory has crawled… ive met someone like 6-7 ranks higher than me with ~200 less games played

If those are slow i guess you never played gw1 xD You don’t even need to win to gain ranks here, also losers can rank up…so no, here is way more easy to rank up than gw1…much more easy and fast
People from gw1 would like to see honor points given at the end of the game to winners only…but sadly this is not gonna happen imo…

Some interesting responses here and I thank people for taking the time to do so. I will say those that claim PvE and PvP are separate are 100% correct. I shouldn’t have compared the two. However, Enaruki brings up a good point. Anyone can acquire these ranks through time played and not necessarily skill used. Someone else brought up some kind of champion system? (I’m unfamiliar with this).
My questions now are:
1 Should TPvP give vastly superior glory so that the skilled players can acquire these ranks at a faster pace and also have another reason to TPvP? Which I guess means, do they deserve it or should everyone be in the same grindy boat regardless of skill?
2 Should they leave this system at a snails pace and simply provide a new “champion system” or what have you to the more skilled players? A separate grind basically for TPvPers?
i think ranks should be proggresivly slower as they are,
but i also think we need a different way of getting gear, i’m all for the idea being able to unlock individual pieces of gear at any rank using glory, with increasingly higher costs for the better looking ones ofcourse (expect to pay a million glory a piece for cultural t3 (the highest level gear available))
I agree with Liewec. I’d love to have charr T1 head piece in sPvP, but I would need to spend a few years playing sPvP to earn dragon tier. For now, I have no (visible) helmet at all, because all non-cultural ones look ugly to me.
When you reach r50 you get flame-legion. In my opinion one of the best looking armors. Event better then most culturals.
Well, it’s not even worth it to get these titles… it doesn’t even show skill. I’m 49 cause i only tournament. However because i don’t get rankpoint from the chest for marauder i’m stacked at tier 4! Don’t know why it doesn’t get rewarded with the chest on the rank for playin tournaments and not spvp :/
I’d like it if ranks went a lil faster.
They take ages cause you keep getting the same amount of glory for the games. It’s not like leveling in PvE, where the amount of exp scales up.
In SPvP you get like 150 glory per match, which isn’t a lot at all. Should be multiplied imo.
People, you have got to be kidding me!
ranks are gained super fast in this game. Plus i believe its the only game, where rank points are given for the loss(which is a total crap by the way, cuz you can easily get more points then your enemy, while losing the match). Anet made a super casual game and you want more?)
Moreover, why do you need those ranks? To show off to sm1? every1 knows, that rank depends on time you ve spent + some skill(to gain more pts). So basically you can get same amount of showing off by pressing /age and posting it somewhere.
P.S.: if u get 150 glory per match, then you r doing something wrong. I do not play hot join anymore, but i ve used to farm up like 320-370(before top stat awards) on average like 3 mnths ago, when I failed completely at this game
If you aren’t gaining ranks quickly you are losing a lot and not performing. Probably not mutually exclusive circumstances when you think about it.
I think rank gain speed is fine.
Only problem i have is that since I didn’t start pvp till later, I feel like I have to grind hotjoins to get my rank up (which I don’t find that fun honestly) before a team or pug will consider taking me for tournaments.
Once people get higher rank and want higher rank teamates, anyone either new to the game or new to gw2 pvp will have to grind hotjoins for 3 months before anyone PUGs with them.
The community will get smaller and smaller as people leave and anyone new isn’t considered due to low rank.
^ Just refuse to do hotjoin. :p
I started pugging free tournies/solo queueing since r8 without knowing anyone on the server. It takes time but it works. I just did it this way because I don’t wanna force myself into doing hotjoin just to get r30. This way you learn nothing about tpvp as it’s entirely different than hotjoin.
You should know that this worked relatively easy for me as I’m on desolation. There’s a big chunk of pvp players there so you’re bound to get lucky and get in a group. :p
Anyway, being communicative in solo queue/hotm works wonders aswell for getting to know some players.
But I agree, the game is suffering from the same problem as in gw1. Let’s hope the MMR changes this.
Just cut the exp curve in half. Getting cultural skins shouldn’t take you months to accomplish.
Also winning teams should just get 300 glory in hot-joins just so everyone doesn’t zerg and plays to win. Point is farming glory needs to be more forgiving.
(edited by Schwahrheit.4203)
I don’t mind the titles being a real grind. I just think the glory gain should be more fair. Bunkers should get more rewards, you should get points for capping even though you’re not staying on the point (roamers), etc. They should reward the gameplay that is needed to win.
And they should reduce the glory gain in hotjoin or buff it in tpvp. That way more people might do tpvp.
Agreed, get more points for not following the zerg, get points for playing like you should.
Fully agree. Ranking up takes way too long and takes away all incentive to keep playing spvp. Everyone I know has also quit spvp, because it just takes too long for anyone who has other things to do than play games. In fact, many of those people have quit the game entirely because of how slow it is to rank up. And sadly, the game has nothing else going for it. Everything else in the game is even more repetitive than spvp and gives no rewards.

It doesn’t show any skill when you can faceroll hotjoins and still get rank. I know there are plenty of r40+ that totally suck.
why should there be a rank cap at all?
PVE player crying for PVP rewards.
LoL, then some more lol.
I’m assuming the OP didn’t play GW1, and has no idea how this works?
Glory should only be earned in tPvP.

Play sPVP or tPVP for the fun and entertainment.
Think of ranking as a side mechanic. Playing solely to rank up its meh; sounds like mindless farming. Lets say they make max rank easier to obtain. Once there… then what?
You’re telling me sister.

Can’t believe you Necro’d this thread. Your friends, assuming they are your friends and not just some people you met online, didn’t quit because they are ranking up too slow. They quit because the sPvP isn’t very fun. You can attribute that to the Conquest Only map rotation and lack of a real Tournament (such as HoH) or GvG.
However, sPvP isn’t played for the rewards but also is played for the rewards sort of. If you made the grind the Tiger in GW1 you know what I’m talking about. You end up playing HoH long after you’d had your fill just to get r9. However, getting max rank shouldn’t be an easy process. I’m okay with lowering the rank requirement dramatically but only if they implement a system where Rank Glory can’t be gained via Hotjoin, thus making it tPvP Only AND if only the Winning Team receives Rank Glory AND every player on both teams must rank within the top 500 of the tPvP Ladder. Do we have a deal? Thought not……..
Fun Fact: I know of only one single player who ever reached r15 in GW1. That’s the highest rank a.k.a Dragon. His handle was Starcraft I believe. Regardless the PvP is already dilluted enough as it is in GW2 when compared to the original. The last thing the game needs is a bunch of horrendous no skill PvE Hotjoin Heroes running around with Dragon /ranks.

If they’re as insubstantial as you say, then why would you care?
I couldn’t go over r12 in gw1 and it was fine for me…cheap pvp ranks would lead to something worthless (Even more than gw2 ranks actually are…spamming grenades in hotjoin all day…if you know WHO i mean) The more get high ranks the less they’re worth…and believe me, max rank here is WAY more easy than gw1 r15…cause as we all know you can get it just farming hotjoin all day without having to be skilled or something, honor points for winners only? Yes please…keep your glory i don’t care, but let rank up only those who really deserve it…don’t make it like another stupid zrank (aka /ebay)

Actually there are 6 r15 as far as i know…dunno if someone else got it too…
Necro thread but.. I think the slow kitten rank grind wouldn’t be so bad if the actual rewards past 40-50 were actully truely unique and not same skins as you can get in pve.
I believe rank should be difficult to obtain because there is some prestige that goes along with it. BUT I also thinks its a bit too extreme at the moment.
The real question would be, why is Fashion and Rank being tied together?
Let’s say, someone really want to wear a cultural T3 which required 4-8years to get rank80. So how does that sound to you if you are in his shoes?
Don’t forget you share that rank with any other toon you have on your account.
I see a lot of people bring up rank progression in GW1, but what I don’t see is them talking about being ranked capped like in GW2.
I go over this on my own forum:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Max-Rank-Glory-Use/first#post2068346
It’s depressing destroying the opposing team for over 500 individual points
losing cause they held nodes longer
and only receiving 330 rank exp after the game…
This would be a non issue if ANET would implement rewards for personal/team ratings. Give us armor/weapons for top 1000, 500, 100, etc.
Rank should be an indication of player skill, not days/hours played.

Bad idea. This wouldn’t allow ppl to play soloQ besides full-roster-matches. And only soloQ players wouldn’t be rewarded by that, even when there are pretty good ppl in there. Another thing is that this leaderboard is not accurate and forces ppl which are on top of it just to stop playing, because nobody can overhaul them in any way, besides beating them.
r15 in HA in gw1 took 6 years or so. And that was an account played full time.
This.

Seeing people complain over slow rank acquisition >ON GW2< always makes me chuckle.
