If you think Helseth is supporting this for pure self interest, you’re delusional. While I don’t think that premades is a large problem, a lot of people in the community do, and they use it as an excuse. That wouldn’t be enough for me to support removing it if I thought queuing as a premade in ranked gave any actual benefit. It doesn’t. It hurts the primary of purpose of Ranked in determining the skill level of individual players, and Ranked is honestly no better practice than Unranked. So I support it just to stop the kittening…

Perhaps it could also mean that you have more than 1 friend, and wish to have fun with them since this is a MMO not a single player game.
Anyway these debates are really about things that will change very little. GW2 pvp needs to evolve to 10v10 GvG.

No it doesn’t. I voted no because I find it unfair that I can’t group up with two or more friends and play Ranked together. It shouldn’t have to be play with friends or play for pips. It’s just a game mode and the implementation of how the progress works is what made the game mode not fun, not groups of people wanting to play together. Having a group doesn’t make the game any easier. I’ve been in plenty of matches where 5 solo queuers have utterly demolished a group of 4 plus one solo-queuer. I’ve also been in parties of four where we’ve been absolutely crushed by 5 solo-queuers.
Serious Question at what point where premades stopping you?
I see people making threads all the time of CLOSE GAMES losing to a premade. Why is this a bad thing?
The real issues with PvP are
1-Balance/roles
2- Class stacking
3-Match making
4- League system
5- reward system
6- start adding your own
Helseth saying something doesnt it make it better either way. Next we will have thread posts about something else broken are not fair in the solo/duo que system.
Quit trying to say the problem is premades when 90% of the premades in the game are casual groups and when there are only 25 legit players who are better then the majority of us. The question becomes how does this help anyone?

Could we at least get some kind of data on how often this suppossed scourge happens. If it happens 1 out 15 matches does it make sense to get rid of being able to group with 2 or more friends because of that. I’m not convinced at all this is actually a real problem based on my personal experience. I almost never get matches against 3 or more players grouped as a solo player. Thats the problem with this whole thing A-net has said most people queue as solo or duo already so we are implementing a fix to something that is uncommon. It makes no sense to me. Most of the people unhappy about how they do in pvp are still going to be unhappy when this gets put in mark my words. The main problems are class stacking and awful matchmaking that goes far beyond facing a premade once in awhile as a solo.

I almost never run in a group larger then 2. I just think its kittened a team based game is looking to eliminate team competition to eliminate a situation they already admit is fairly rare. Its not really hard to understand why some us think this is a bad idea and it has nothing to do with the motivations you are hinting at. You sound like a sore loser.

Even if its uncommon, lets say 10% of the time. The impact to morale is disproportionately higher when you lose to a premade or lose to a solo q team.
If you lose to a solo q team you can be like OK they beat me fair and square. If you lose to a premade, its dang those premade voice comm team just wasted 15 min of my life im not gonna get back. (Even if the team never actually had voice comm etc)

And now i’m torn at the issue. I don’t like that full premades on voicechat can end up going against randoms, but at the same time i really liked that new feature of pick-up grouping after a match.

Queuing as a group of 3+ can definitely benefit your winrate. However, the requirement is that your party is trying hard enough aka bring proper builds and classes that synergize with each other.
If all of your premade just queues on their favorite or daily class, or try out builds, you might accomplish the opposite.
That doesn’t change though, that queuing as team can be used to gain a massive advantage over solo players.
I voted yes and I don’t even play the game anymore. I just have enough braincells to know whats right. Now all we need is a new more balanced less facerolly meta (nerfs to all classes in terms of general dps condi dps healing power and boon duration) and we have a whole new game on our plates and a motivation to improve and grow as individuals and even as joint members of a gaming community amen. That doesn’t prove anything. A pro ESL player playing solo q against your typical casual 5 man premade and hes gonna destroy them. Stands to reason he will say it doesn’t give any benefit. Ive met kitten in unranked and seen him 1v3 people on his DH and kill them all. Helseth has done the same. In fact I would say that Pro ESL players point of view when it comes to soloq vs team q is probably the least relevant to this conversation since their skill is so far above everyone else that their experiences are almost unique.

There is a simple solution, bring back paid tournies…allow only premadess to join or make a pre-made ranked ladder

I think thats the first sentence I can agree with Helseth about. Ever.
If ranked is to truly become a competitive mode with an individual ranking system, surely you can see why premades will become a problem? It’s not a problem now, but what if it actually gets hard to get into legend and what if they add some lovely rewards only for the best of the best? If you think ppl won’t abuse the system by making premades if that happens you’re just being naive.
Ok so i just watched the video. Ill start by saying that helseth is the best on these videos. Simply put he has the most personality and great insight at high level play. He also does the best job of breaking down matches and explaining why he does things.
With that said lets break the video down.
First he talks about old leader boards. He is talking about that carrot for people to play for. Anet doesnt know how to do this, they got rid of ranked leveling because it was too hard for casuals. They got rid of alot of things and they have yet to bring back any reward system.
Second he brings up team ques/MMR/ and que time. He states “he never team ques” and he also implied the people on his team because there is no challenge for them. So if this is the case why are there so many complaint threads?
He speaks about que time which has been a issue all 4 seasons. GW2 is liteally taking the fun out of the game with the PiP system and 10+ min que times. He talked about playing for fun/competitively and its really hard to do that when you might get only 1 game in a hour.
Third he talks about bad players in Legendary rank. This also falls on Anet for simply making a bad system. I dont see how we can blame premades when the top ESL players are not grouping up together all the time, que times are really long and when people are not in the right division but either grinded there way to the top by playing other bad players.
He contradicts himself in the video alot. Im all for creating a competitve scene but it has to be done well. Anet is throwing darts a board with there ideas. Balance is poor, rewards are poor, system was grindy, and the icing on the cake is match making doesnt work. If you do not fix match making with rewards that reflect a person playing at that level. It will awesome be broken premade or not.
I left a screen print from S3. This was me and my guild team mates getting a team into the top 25 for the guild decoration.
Both of these team mates have been in the TOL 1-2 with me. Neither one play PvP alot but the ruby player has almost all the PvP titles and got to diamond twice int he season and did not care to push for legendary. The 2nd player understands his class and understands the other classes and isnt higher then level 60 in PvP.
This is whats wrong with the system, this game is over 4 years old and it still does not know how it wants to rate/reward/ and simply put players in the right divisions for fair play.

Anet is dropping bombs in a boxing match and people actually believe premades are the issue.
I have 3-4 other players in this guild team. Obviously you saw one in amber. Now he played 3-4 matches in amber and said it wasnt worth the time. He was winning 1 vs 2 all over the map. He teamed up another day with our thief who was in emerald and they actually took a screen print of them winning a 2 vs 4 on the far node.
Heres the crazy thing, we went 15-9 season 1 in legendary (this isnt a great thing since the match making for teams were all over the place) and then we went 12-7 in season 2.They cant compete with other legit legendary players but yet they do beat people with the legendary rank symbol.
Then Anet separates all these players in 6 different divisions. Who in the company thought this was gonna be a good idea?
Lol this game isnt competitive, time to get over it. They will kill their audience if they ban people who queue as 3 or 4 or 5. Guess what, sometimes people play games with friends and want progression.
This game is the king of removing features.
I am sure any reasons this dude came up with are not logical.

For one they keep talking about it. Will they succeed at doing so? Who knows, all I know is this poll pretty much decides whether they should even try bothering. Might as well keep it as is if premades can stomp solo queuers in a proper rank system.
No, this will not solve all problems in pvp but it will make things more fair. And if you have a separate queue that’s supposed to be competitive(ranked) it needs to be as fair as you can make it otherwise it’s not competitive. Being able to make teams with different classes and builds that synergize and have the ability to communicate more efficiently gives you an advantage.
Is this the biggest problem with pvp right now? I wouldn’t say so, but by not having a fair competitive mode is hurting the enjoyment of pvp and the how gw2 is seen as a competitive game. So there is absolutely value to what Helseth says. The fairness must come first at the expense of ranked teamqueue, otherwise the ranked queue is pointless and we can get rid of it. If we could have a both would be the perfect scenario but that probably won’t happen unless the teamscence gets bigger. Teamqueues would probably be quite long.

The problem is less about the fact that there are premades everywhere stomping solo queuers. This was how season 1 was but the community alleviated that issue themselves for the most part for the other seasons. The problem is that a premade trivializes the efforts of a solo queue player. What’s the point of try harding as a solo queuer when a premade can accomplish what you have 100 times easier? It undermines the entire point of the system.
Even Overwatch with its massive player base able to support a dynamic queue should still have a solo/duo only for that same reason.
Isn’t helseth the guy who insults pretty much everyone who disagrees with him? Why should anyone care what he has to say.

If I get a premade with bad players in it the system doesn’t account for them.

terrible habit that i now love. Had a H.S teacher who demanded quotes from philosophers and i ended up taking mine from kungkittenmovies which only upset him.

When we had solo que, the best players got to number 1 using legit builds and there were turret engys every where but they were never in the top 100.
There was balance because there was multiple builds you could play.
How can you say this is fair when X-Y-Z have not been addressed? Class stacking, profession balance and styles of play. They keep introducing 4 stat amulets, how about they actually do it and get rid of some of the terrible amulets. Also bring pack some of the older runes that they took out.
Right now PvP is poop and they are simply dunking it into chocolate and now people are saying ohhh now it will be a little better. Until you bite into it and then Anet will say sorry we wont do any balance patching till next quarter, enjoy the delicous desert we have left you with.

He is one of the most successful gw2 pvp players in the competitive scene and I would say he is the most fun streamer of gw2 nowadays.
I have watched his video and it made perfect sense and definitely convinced me that a solo/duo queue will be good for the pvp scene of the game.

It’s just a game mode and the implementation of how the progress works is what made the game mode not fun, not groups of people wanting to play together. Having a group doesn’t make the game any easier. I’ve been in plenty of matches where 5 solo queuers have utterly demolished a group of 4 plus one solo-queuer. I’ve also been in parties of four where we’ve been absolutely crushed by 5 solo-queuers.
You can team up with your friends and play hotjoin and unranked all you want.
Queues there are even shorter than in ranked.
The only reason to join a ranked match is to compete in the leagues.
Ranked matches are competitive,and providing a playing field as fair and balanced as possible is very important.
Even allowing for duo queuers can still result in unbalanced match ups,but it’s an improvement over the current situation.

limiting it to solo or duo will allow the match maker to make a better assessment of skill based on wins and losses. People getting carried on teams is one reason there is a large skill gap in the higher divisions.
Any serious PvP team will be doing scrimmages in a private hotjoin vs. queuing for a long time to stomp a group of solo queue players.
Seems silly for a team game not to have a team queue but I suppose when the poor decisions of the dev team drive many players away, there’s not enough left to support a multi queue system. How sad is it after 4 seasons in a game that came out 4 years ago, the PvP still seems like a beta? What’s sad is, there’s little to no negative QQ posts about it. I mean, where’s all the premade players saying “no don’t do it”? It’s a team game but where’s all the teams?
Those who are competitive have their competitive outlet to go to. The casual teams, well, they already play in Unranked anyways. 10min+ queue times isn’t exactly a raw deal for players going 5man premades.
I was mainly mad about Anet not converting back to Solo and Team Queue pvp. The competition/matchmaking was better when Solo players had a place to go.

No, this will not solve all problems in pvp but it will make things more fair. And if you have a separate queue that’s supposed to be competitive(ranked) it needs to be as fair as you can make it otherwise it’s not competitive. Being able to make teams with different classes and builds that synergize and have the ability to communicate more efficiently gives you an advantage.
Is this the biggest problem with pvp right now? I wouldn’t say so, but by not having a fair competitive mode is hurting the enjoyment of pvp and the how gw2 is seen as a competitive game. So there is absolutely value to what Helseth says. The fairness must come first at the expense of ranked teamqueue, otherwise the ranked queue is pointless and we can get rid of it. If we could have a both would be the perfect scenario but that probably won’t happen unless the teamscence gets bigger. Teamqueues would probably be quite long.That would be a great argument if classes were balanced.
When we had solo que, the best players got to number 1 using legit builds and there were turret engys every where but they were never in the top 100.
There was balance because there was multiple builds you could play.
How can you say this is fair when X-Y-Z have not been addressed? Class stacking, profession balance and styles of play. They keep introducing 4 stat amulets, how about they actually do it and get rid of some of the terrible amulets. Also bring pack some of the older runes that they took out.
Right now PvP is poop and they are simply dunking it into chocolate and now people are saying ohhh now it will be a little better. Until you bite into it and then Anet will say sorry we wont do any balance patching till next quarter, enjoy the delicous desert we have left you with.
I said it wasn’t the biggest problem in pvp but it is a problem how big or tiny it may be.
But the point I see you making is because this ain’t the problem you think is the worst it ain’t a problem that needs fixing. I never said ranked would be fair after this fix, only that it would make it more fair. And Anet needs to make it as fair as possible. Sure I would love to see other things being fixed first but any change to make it MORE fair is a good change.

sPvP was always about no matter if you are alone or not you could jump right into it.
If you don’t want to basically make the vast majority of players leave pvp, then stop making such suggestions.
Teams can still play in unranked if it’s “just to play with friend”, but if they wanna compete their personal skill level should matter and the best way to do is will be SoloQ/DuoQ.
I don’t know if it’s in Helseths video, but around the time he made the video he also said that current ProLeauge teams didnt form in TeamQ, they always found each other while solo playing, most pros got noticed while solo playing.
Team have the possibility to progress in private Arenas, i don’t think any of the ProLeauge teams are against scrimming new teams.
Also it will drastically increase queue times, because far less players will play, so good luck with your 1h queue times.

We already had a soloq mode and it was the worst thing ever!
No one liked it and we lost a lot of players for that.
With the current MM system there’s not a real way to improve a soloq ranked and make it balanced.

I get what you are saying and I agree to a point. Pvp is teambased yes but it’s kinda clear that most people don’t want/can’t team up for different reasons as Josh Davies stated:

So should Anet force teams on the “overwhelming majority” because they want it to be teambased or should they make it into what the “overwhelming majority” wants to play. It’s not as simple as “they should do this or that”. But he did also say :

Ranked is meant to be a competitive mode, playing with a team with friends on ts just creates an imbalance no system in the world can account for.
There aren’t enough teams to justify you queuing in ranked as you will most likely only encouter solos or enemies that are made up of 2x duoQ + 1 soloQ, who have no relation to each other. It’s imbalanced.
If you just want to play with friends together, then go unranked. If you want to compete and have at least a little bit of a balanced ground SoloQ/DuoQ is the way to go.
Else you just want to farm easy wins with your team sitting on ts, carrying each other to legend which you don’t deserve.
TeamQ System in most competitive games make no sense, look at SC2, like almost nobody is playing it there.
ProLeauge teams are made up of 1on1 matches of every team member against the members of the other team.
There is no 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 ProLeauge.
The only game where TeamQ has ever worked maybe a bit was LoL due to its huge population.
Again most competitive teams form themselves out of good soloplayers, they make a team, sign up for Amateur Torunaments, then go to ProLeauge and so on and on.
They don’t go TeamQ and take that as practice, they practice their solo skills and organize scrims privately to train.
If you really want to play with your friend in a team, what is the problem to do so in unranked? ranked doesn’t need the imbalance you bring into it.
the only real reason you still wanna do ranked is to get easy wins over soloQ players who are not coordinated and together on ts.
