Remove Retalliation
You know, I remember when the game came out, buffs didnt seem this over the top. It seems now everyone always has a stack of different buffs, they need to scale them back a lot. COnditions too need to be scaled right back, as well as attack power. It all feels like its moving closer and closer to one shot fighting, which is about as dull as it gets.
Stop using Barrage and Rapid Fire on guys with Retaliation. It’s amazing how little of a threat it becomes.
Stop using Barrage
^ good luck with that XD, once its fired its fired, if a guardian puts retaliation on his whole group you’re in trouble :P
that being said there are very few skills like Barrage which can’t be stopped,
so anyone taking ridiculous amounts of retal damage probably deserves it for mindlessly spamming aoe.

i love getting group retaliation when i see an off-guard porting to us and starts whirling around…
especially guards who dont have much basic hp
die sooo quickly to this

You can still break the channel off early. If you do, the damage immediately stops.
If the channel has completed and someone pops Retaliation? Well, it’s just a few hits. AoE retaliation can, and will, still hurt, but it shouldn’t do too much for that duration.
Retaliation is fine.
When making a team, a good team will bring boon removal.
But not all professions have access to boon removal.
So if in solo queue you get a bunch of retaliation heal-spamming bunkers that can keep retaliation on at all times vs a bunch of direct damage dealers, the damage dealers will lose every time.
That is what’s to be addressed. Losing because a bad match should be highly unlikey. A team should lose because of lack of skill at using their skills, not because they chose scissors when the enemy chose rock.
I’d just remove retal and put a 50% damage reflect ability on guardian offhand torch on a 40sec cd. This way offhand torch becomes useable, retaliation becomes guardian-specific which it should have been in the first place and there will still be a counter to AoE and random attack spam but it will be situational. Blast into light field could become an AoE condi removal, which is, again a situational advantage based on skill.

Rentapest, I remembered your name from a number of posts about how many times you AFK in sPvP. Maybe you should take a break from the forums and just learn how to play. Roll other classes to learn how to beat them, and stop complaining on the forums when you can’t win. Don’t let the easiness of PvE spoil you. The real issue is that you could coast by in PvE with ranger class letting the pets fight for you. Now that you have to fight smart people, you don’t know how to deal with them.
Retaliation is the least of anyone’s problems that knows how to fight. It literally means you take damage for attacking. Why can’t you read an opponent’s buff bar and stop attacking when you see the retal icon? Why can’t you read your own health and see that you’re taking damage so it’s time to end a channel and reposition? If you stop focusing on beating people individually in sPvP, and learn when to withdraw or press your advantage, you’ll win a lot more.
If there’s a bunker guardian on far point I can’t beat? Fine! Time to run back to mid and assist. If I’m on trebuchet and 3 opponents come to destroy it, they can have it because I’m running and I’ll probably go capture a point instead. When you are playing on a team, that’s what you do to win. You assist, you bait, you buff others and you do your best to keep from dying. You post about pvp a lot so you obviously enjoy it. So take your game to the next level. Try no AFKs for a month even if you’re on losing teams. Try fighting with all the weapon combinations a ranger has to see what’s most effective against each class. Try fighting without auto-attack. There are good rangers out there, but you will never be one until you learn to stop complaining and overcome.
